    September surgery buddies!!

My plan had me start my vitamins as soon as I could, but I'd wait for your doctors okay first. I'm sorry about your bad news! You did just go through a stressful major life changing surgery, have stress about your post care, AND hormones are stored in the fat, wls can make them go crazy.

I'd take it as you're allowed to hit two birds with one stone. Go ahead and get some protein waters and powder mix ins. Somewhere on my paperwork it says "64 ounces of liquid including individual protein goal", right now with just my protein water (32oz) I'm getting 40g of protein, and that's something I can count on because I know I'll get that down every day.

I had pain/pressure under my diaphragm around that time too, but it showed up when I was either reclining or going to bed. It worried me but it went away and hasn't been back for a week, so assume it was the last of the gas in my chest.

I had a lot of burping too the first week, it gets better but it really does make it hard to drink anything. I chewed a couple of gasx each day trying to get the burping to chill. It felt like even the smallest sip was enough to make me burp. Does your paperwork work explicitly say "water" or does it say "liquid"? Some plans keep water and protein (even in drinks) separate (dumb), but mine luckily considers everything I'm allowed, including jello and pudding, to be a liquid. If your plan says liquid, I would try protein waters, I use a clear protein powder drink mix every day. Also, I occasionally add electrolyte powder to the mix just in case. Don't beat yourself up too much about your intake, just keep trying for more each day, I'll be 3 weeks post on Tuesday and I'm just now meeting my protein goal but still about 20oz behind on my liquid goal.

    Reactive Hypoglycemia

My doctor once told me I have reactive hypoglycemia and well that's unfortunate that it could get worse now that I've gotten wls. I've episodes pre-op for a few years and my doctors solution was "make sure you eat regularly and stay away from the triggers when you don't".
  7. I'm no help with the elevated pulse, but I hope you find out what's up soon!! With the weight thing though, I'm feeling those feelings. I was sleeved Sept 6th, I lost 13lbs the first week, which was probably all water weight, because that first week I was barely getting anything down. I told myself I'd only weigh myself once a week, Tuesdays, but I broke yesterday morning and checked, and I gained a pound. I'm still on the liquid diet so that's wild, but I also figure my body is probably scrambling trying to hold on to what I can give it. I'm also only peeing like 3 times a day, which seems like so little considering how much liquid is going into me, and since that pee is light colored and not dehydrated, I'm taking it as an indication that my body is holding on to it. Bodies are weird.

I'm glad everything went well!! My period showed up a few days before surgery too, luckily it had lightened up for the day of. I kinda wish I had a cath, I was up every 2 hours needing to pee. About the hunger! Same! It's the excess stomach acid, at least for me. It's not just noise, right? Like it's actually a little painful? I could literally be watching my family eat and totally not be interested with no stomach reaction, then later take a sip of a protein shake or just water and then it's painful gurgling feed me now time, like I woke up a beast. It was the worst the first week and now it's tapered off, I assume because my body is adapting to how much acid my stomach needs. This video also helped ease my mind! https://youtu.be/m5NCKvkr7rU

    Starting my journey - Advice

Welcome!!! I'm a little over a week post op so I'm no expert but my number one tip is that if you don't already see a therapist, start with one. Even if it's just your university health center one. Most of us struggle with our relationship with food and and that will probably never be cured, but getting help to manage all that baggage is invaluable. Also, just stress and fear from any life change can do a number and it helps to talk it out!! As for recovery time, I would try to get the surgery near the beginning of the break so you'll have ample time to rest and do any assignments you might have.

Oh no! Which Bariatric Advantage multis did you get? I hate sweet things but the strawberry watermelon (no iron) isn't that bad. The texture is a little gritty though. I do have to take my time eating it though, I think it may take me at least 2 mins to eat one chew. I also have Bariatric Advantage Calcium Citrate, raspberry flavor, that one's actually kind of nice lol. I'm also taking Nordic Naturals vitamin D3 gummy in passion fruit, and I actually look forward to it each day. The last thing my plan has me on is a B12 spray, I'm doing the one by Garden of Life in raspberry flavor, it's okay for a medicinal liquid lol could be better, could be way worse.

    Abdominal Binder

I bought one because I wasn't sure, but they ended up putting one one me as I was coming out of anaesthesia. It made me feel a little better, but honestly it was probably mental. It gave me the piece of mind that nothing was going to rub my incisions, as I wore it under my clothes. I think I stopped using it about day 3, when I finally felt good enough to shower lol.

Definitely take at least a week! I get wanting to go back to work, but you gotta try to heal properly.

    September surgery buddies!!

Questions don't bother me at all! I feel pretty good, plenty of energy but I can't do much because stretching pulls my incisions, and while I can ignore the pain, I really want to heal properly. A spot that's maybe my shoulder blade is still sore, and I'm pretty sure it's from the surgery positioning, for days my shoulder and neck muscles were tight. I didn't really like sweet before, so the premier protein shakes are extra gross to me, but I can get it down slightly frozen. Fairlife goes down a little easier. Bone broth mixed with ramen starter broth is pretty good. I've gotten a little better, but I've been getting painful excess stomach acid almost every time I consume anything, even water, so it's making it hard to be consistent. I called my surgeons office yesterday and asked if I could take a Tums and they okayed one at a time and that made things a little better. So, we'll see how today goes lol.

Congratulations on a successful surgery! I'm about a week post now and the last time I took my pain med was Saturday night and even then it was a just in case thing . The pain gets more tolerable!!!

I'm taking 4 weeks but I have a pretty physical job with basically no time to eat or drink so I gotta take the financial hit, or I'd probably pass out. You'll probably be fine. I'm 5 days post and if I had an office job, I probably could have gone to work yesterday. Can't say if productivity would be great, but you do what you got to.
  18. My birthday is next month and coincides with my projected second week of pureed, as a reward for staying on plan I'm gonna buy a new phone lmao. A local tandem skydiving place had a 160lb weight limit for my height, so naturally I decided when I hit that, I'm jumping out a plane.

Just further shows how the plans are different. Heck, mine doesn't even technically have a water goal, just a 48-64 oz liquid goal, I'm choosing to make that my water goal and call everything else extra after.

I luckily stopped myself from swallowing an accidental gulp, I got it down in three and it hurt but it could have been worse.

Not even close. Yesterday was the most I've gotten in at 16oz of water and 27g protein. Which I couldn't have gotten without the help of protein in my water. But in my defense, up until today I'd have to burp after every sip and that got very annoying very fast. Also, I'm used to not eating very much when I'm at home so my brain just ignores hunger cues instead of going to the kitchen. I'm working on that. I'm not gonna worry too much about it, just keep trying to closer each day.

    Restaurants

When I started trying to make better choices, a lot of times I'd type the name of the restaurant + either "keto" or "eat this not that" into Google and use that as my starting point

Do you have an enlarged liver? Or is this just your programs standard pre-op plan? If it's just the standard plan, I wouldn't worry too much this time, just try not to cheat again, especially closer you get to the surgery. While I was encouraged to lose weight before surgery (sleeve), I only had to do a one day clear liquid diet and 2oz of milk of magnesia the day before. I was still, ugh, passing water right up to putting on the hospital gown. I'm a worrier, and was mildly worried about my liver suddenly becoming enlarged even though I only have very very minimal liver problems (some stuff shows up on my blood work but it's not enough for my PCP to worry). If you do have an enlarged liver, I still wouldn't get too worked up this time, just be more careful.
