    On 2/13/2014 approved for surgery

It will depend on how thorough your surgeons insurance people are when they send in the request. Most insurance takes less than a week as long as the application is clean.

    Filler up!

Good luck and a good way to avoid bread and chips is to not buy them. I'm right there with ya. If they're in the pantry, they call me and mock me till I open them. It took me 3 fills before I felt some restriction. Don't be surprised if your adjustments don't offer immediate satiety. It may take several more to finally tweak your band to it's optimal performance. tmf
  3. Go to the top of this page, click on Surgeons, add your local information and search for docs. Call them and ask when they'll be having a seminar or visit their webpage. Go to several seminars and ask your questions. Good luck.

    Needing A Jump Start

What do you mean uncomfortable? As in, it doesn't pass through the pouch, or, it makes you sick to your stomach, or stuck??

    Help needed

You probably need an adjustment. Call your doctor and discuss it with him/her?

How much you can eat isn't relevant. I can eat 2 cups of Soup but I can only eat a half cup of chicken or meat. The test is how long are you satisfied with a cup of food? You should be satisfied for 4-5 hours. If not, then keep getting fills till you feel satisfied with less food. tmf

    Anthem BCBS

Mine was 36 but I had co-morbids. Do you have other issues like diabetes, arthritis?

    stress related issue

Call your surgeon. This is not normal even with stress.

    Frustrated! Ugh...

Many of the old veterans would ask you if you journal or track calories? Fitnesspal? Just a journal? How many calories are you consuming? 2 lbs could be about right depending on your caloric intake? But not being able to eat solids is a big red flag. Talk to your doc and/or nutritionist?

    6 year bandiversary!

So good to see you post again. So many veterans have left the forum it's good to see you come back. Don't be a stranger and congrats.

    So I've been thinking =/

My issue with RNY is the malabsorption issue. My wife worked in a skilled nursing facility(Sniff unit) and saw several people come in who were still obese but couldn't take meds normally due to the fact that their stomachs were gone and intestines wouldn't allow the medications to absorb as well as the stomach did? I personally would do a sleeve before I'd go all the way with RNY. tmf

    Yoga

I agree to your comfort level. I'm as flexible as a board so yoga is not something I participate in. I've got this 10 minute yoga video I watch and follow about once a month but yoga and my body don't agree. Wish it did because I can see the benefits of being more flexible.

    Whey Protein?

First, building muscle is good right? Muscles burn calories and fat doesn't. As long as you're not building excess muscle what's the downside? We're instructed to consume Protein to avoid being hungry and to help build muscle since most of us were complacent during our obesity period. The idea is to build and strengthen our bodies so as long as you're not consuming more protein than your body needs I see no problem. tmf

    Hello

You seem to have a rather unorthodox doctor? Fills at 1 week post-op are rare if not ever? I'd also recommend you lay off the booze for a few months. Alcohol can lower your inhibitions to food and they also contain empty calories. At a time when you're eating less, the quality of nutrition going in your body is much more important than the buzz from booze. jmo tmf

    Antacids

About the only cure/antidote for a stuck episode is time. Antacids are good for mild reflux or indigestion and should only be used when your esophagus/pouch is clear of all food. tmf

    Missing

You should go on a PC and fill in your profile so we can give you a more informed answer? You've gained 2 kilos since? You've lost 15 kilos up to this? gaining a few kilos/lbs here and there is so normal for all of us. Especially women(TOM). If you're exercising, could you be losing fat and gaining muscle? tmf

    snide remarks

Your co-worker is afraid she'll be the last and only fattie in your department and she's right. Give her time, if she's got any brains at all, in a few months she'll be secretly asking you if it was hard or painful. You can tell her "only the hurtful remarks of your friends and co-workers". And the "I'd rather be fat" comment can be answered with "I'd rather continue to live".

    Banded 2-13-14

I agree with Cheryl. Lots of people who have not been banded tell us things they've heard that just don't hold water.
  19. I got nada. I never experienced any pain or gas so I'm worthless here. The foods you eat shouldn't cause back aches but sometimes veggies cause some gas problems, or so I've read.

SE Wisconsin lap band pre-op or post-op?

I thought I'd get enough restriction from the initial band placement to immediately lose fat but I almost immediately went into Bandster hell. That's the period of time between surgery and finding enough restriction/satiety to not being so hungry between meals. I went 4 months and 3 fills before I was no longer feeling like I was starving to death. Not everyone experiences this phase but it seems most do. Stuck episodes and sliming(slime) still seem to haunt me. But, this is my own fault and I just have to learn to eat slower and smaller. Learning to eat slower and chew more was a difficult one and remains difficult. Getting used to only losing 4-8 lbs a month was disappointing too. I had fantasized that I'd lose 10 lbs every month, HA! But it's all good and I'd do it all over again. It's just that I seemed to have these rose colored glasses like so many others and I thought I'd be the exception but I wasn't and most peope aren't. Good luck and wise choice. tmf

Keep reading. I wish I would have read more before my surgery. Would have explained a lot of the surprises to come. tmf

    Limiting content?

I start by clicking on the forums tab at the top of this page, then click on lapband forums. The "recent topics" on the right side of page are all lapband related. status updates vary from forum to forum and trending topics seem to always be lapband related. Hope this helps? BTW- I make sure I stay logged in so when I come back the next morning or two hours later, I'm still on the lapband page. tmf

    banded 1 week - foods...

Try some egg drop soup. It should be fine since you're allowed creamy soups already. It's basically just broth with an egg mixed in. There's a great Asian mix at the grocery store I like to use. The Protein in the egg really satisfies. You could also use egg beaters instead of the fresh egg? I used to live in Nampa back in the 60s. I managed a little stereo shop in Karcher Mall. That was back when it was the premier mall and the only mall in the area. Went there a few years ago and ugh!

    banded 1 week - foods...

Hey, I have a kid in Nampa and a kid in Star and 6 grandkids between them. food with a higher fat content will satisfy longer than sugar free fluids. They stay in your stomach longer so therefore, longer satiation. You'll start to lose Water weight soon. They pump you with so much saline during surgery it can take a few weeks to get rid of it. tmf

Eating more than 1 cup in a sitting

I'd have to disagree with your doc. The purpose of the band is to help you eat less in a sitting. But, I too could eat 2 ore or more cups of food for the first 4 months post surgery. I too ate healthy food which helped keep me from gaining weight. Adjusting the band will help you feel satisfied sooner with less food. even if you're losing weight now I feel it's important to train ourselves to eat less and that's where the band comes in? jmo
