  1. The founder of this site posted this link below a few months ago and it's probably fairly accurate. However, stats alone should not be your guiding light I'm sure you're aware? Use stats along with your own doctor's advice and research, research, research what will be best for you. Anecdotal stories will vary and although may be illuminating, they can't compare to your own personal environment or experiences. http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/291785-new-jama-surgery-study-shows-weight-loss-surgery-is-getting-safer-and-more-effective/

    HELP!

There may be some here who might want to take on that roll but mostly, this entire site can be your buddy. There are many long term relationships here where we all provide a support system to each other. Sure, there's a few knuckle heads here and there but for the most part there's always more than one or two people here who will relate to what you're going through as long as you're not an ax murderer Just start a new topic/thread whenever you want some feedback and someone here will chime in. tmf

    What is your typical day?

The amount of fat loss you sleevers lose so shortly after surgery is mind boggling . Are you not losing now or did it slow down to just 2 lb a week? jk I agree with indecision. shakes may be unnecessary at this point. Filling up on more solid Protein may give you more satiety and you might be able to reduce your caloric intake a few hundred cals? tmf

    Yau NEVER left Slimband

Ghost surgeons are real. Some surgeons allow other surgeons to sit in on their surgery as advisors or even to do difficult technical procedures. The primary surgeon is held accountable for any mishaps. Yau could be working for any of the particpants such as Slimband, the primary surgeon or even the hospital as a contract surgeon case by case. Anyway, that's how it works here in the States? May be different up North?

    drinking too much

You apparently have very little swelling from the surgery so your band opening(stoma) is wide open. You won't feel restriction till you get some fills. I can eat bread if I'm very careful but I rarely do. I do sometimes have whole wheat Oroweat thin slices for Breakfast egg sandwiches. Bread isn't all that good for you so I don't miss it. I'd rather fill up on quality Proteins than bread. Most bread is just processed flour which turns to sugar shortly after consuming and this can actually make you hungrier an hour later. Whole wheat is better but not by much.

    Lapband

Immediately after surgery I did weigh more but within 2 weeks I was down 12 lbs from my pre-op weight.

    Breakfast ideas?

Just a shout out to you. It's my belief you may be a little too tight. An overly tight band can lead to some very serious band complications including, slips, erosion, dilation and dysphagia. I would advise you to seek out your surgeon and tell him/her exactly what you eat a day and how you feel?

    Workout before surgery

I'm no physiologist, and I haven't practiced medicine or played doctor since I was 6, but I think you should be cleared to workout till your hearts content before surgery. tmf

    I'm in the medical field.

Off topic: My rave: I believe it was Man vs food? Fabulous grilled cheese sandwich joints!!! One had like 7 different cheeses with about 2 lbs of cheese on 2 hugely thick sourdough slices oozing all over the place. OMG, I nearly needed someone in the medical field. Preferably an ER RN please?

day 4 - anyone used isagenix?

I was not required to consume that much Protein after surgery. It was always a goal but not post op. It's a time to heal and forcing food or liquids was never my protocol. Maybe you should re-visit your doc orders and see if it says to "try" to get 64 grams of protein? You won't die or get fat if you can't get 64 grams of protein in. Very few can. Just staying hydrated and not hungry is about all most post op patients can hope for. tmf

    Fuel for running

Back in the 80's and 90's when I ran 10Ks I ate nothing or very little prior to running. But we WLS people survive on much fewer carbs/calories/day than most runners who typically consume thousands of calories every day. I've read that if you eat too many carbs or fats in one meal, if you don't burn it off, it turns to fat within hours. So, you might try something that enters your blood stream slowly a few hours prior to running? Whole grain cereals, oatmeal, applesauce, hard fruits like pears or apples? All in small quantities. If you don't have hours to prepare, try an energy bar? You have plenty of time to experiment with a routine that works best for you?

First mountainbike ride of the season.

Do you use a heart rate monitor that links to your email? Some of the banders use Garmin or Polar and we post them here to show our workouts? I usually don't cuz I'm a wuss but not as much as before WLS

What pain do you want to stop? The pain from getting filled? The injection itself?

    Tips for a newbie runner

One last comment. I use a heart rate monitor that is tied into an app on my smart phone. I can track my time, where I ran on a map, heartrate, distance, calories burned and speed. The strap costs about $60 and the app is $3. I can go back and view my history to see how much I've done over each year.

    Tips for a newbie runner

Happy Belated Birthday!! OK, this is only my personal opinion. I was able to stave off being fat for years due to running. But, sometimes I was about 25 lbs overweight. Usually only around 10 lbs overweight. Now, my knees are shot. I've needed two total knee replacements for about 6 years now and I'll have to pull the trigger this fall for sure. I believe my weight is what caused all my cartilage to be grinded off. I wish I would have picked up on cycling 30-40 years ago. I bike now and I love it. Don't care for riding streets but we have hundreds of miles of bike/walk paths in the Denver area I can use. So, I recommend biking but if you insist on running, spend enough money on a pair of great running shoes. Make sure they're the right size and width. Start off with one mile. Don't push it, just jog it. Hydrate before you run. You won't be out there long enough to need to carry Water with you until you run 10K races. Outside is always my first choice. There are so many places you can run in most cities. Treadmill only in inclement weather. Find a nature preserve to run around. The more interesting and fun you make it, the more often you'll do it. We have this nature preserve near our house and it's great to watch the coyotes have pups and the geese and ducks all have their babies. It's just a delight to run or bike around the lake/preserve. Good luck and enjoy the spring! Here's a couple of pics of me when I was running. Oh those were the good ole days. I could eat anything after a good run. tmf
  20. I'm no help but I'd recommend you call your doctor is it's that uncomfortable?

    waiting preop

I've never heard of going from bypass to lapband? Are they going to re-route your intestines back to the original positions and re-attach your pouch to the stomach and then slap a band around your stomach?

    Back from VA-CA

Happens to all of us and it will probably happen again. Hotdogs are on my can't eat list. We have a lot of Rockies baseball tickets and I really miss brats and dogs but they get stuck so badly. Hang in there.
  23. Did your doc give you an Rx for nausea? Mine did but I didn't have to use it. Look over your meds and see if one is for nausea. If not, call the doc for an Rx?

    Newbie with questions

How long does your doc require you to be on liquids? I went out and bought a bunch of shakes, powders and Soups and never used most of it. My pre-op diet was 4 days liquids and then soups 4 more days and then mushies. I wasn't all that hungry the first week so I only drank a half dozen shakes. Don't waste a lot of money on large quantities of one product but try a few to see what you like? tmf
  25. The port is like a cork like material. It would take an incompetent healthcare worker to not know the difference between soft tissue and the cork like material the needle penetrates? Most people do not feel any restriction from the first 1-3 fills so if you don't feel any satiety/restriction, it's normal. tmf
