    So just what is success?

I'm not at goal yet(35 lbs away) but even if I never get there, I feel like this is a success for me. I was at the point before surgery where I was so limited in my activities I just couldn't go on and it was depressing me. Clothes shopping had come to a complete halt and I was wearing sweats and t-shirts everywhere. Please, no pictures!! Still working on that goal and as soon as this stinking bad weather passes, I'll be back on the bike trails working off this last blob of fat surrounding my body. And GoWalking, you know I've been talking about knee surgeries for 2 years now. I really regret not pulling the trigger last fall. Bad knees have kept me from all forms of exercising except biking. I love my bike, but I miss the tennis court, golf course, racquetball court, walking around the wildlife preserve and hiking. Gonna pull the trigger for sure this fall. My big regret now.
  2. 17 kilos is a lot so congrats on the will power. Hopefully your next fill will give you the satiety you want?

Am I eroding or does this just suck?

If you're not going to the dr today or soon, monitor yourself and if you feel any sharp pains, regurgitate blood or bad reflux, go to the ER. jmo So sorry to see anyone experience this. I think 3-10 years ago, many surgeons saw this as a panacea for WLS. The fact is, many doctors didn't understand how and why they needed to filter patients for the correct surgery. Many did not understand how this all works and many still don't. Of course, placing the band incorrectly can lead to so many problems. Curious as to what happened to surgeon number 1?? We have another forum member who had her band placed too high. Bandarella is her name. She could be a good resource for your dilemma?

    A Dilemma

First, tuna is dry and can be difficult unless it's mushed up and eaten in small bites. Most all of us experience tightness in the mornings and small bites of anything can cause a stuck episode so your tuna experience is quite normal. I'm gathering by what I've read that you feel like you can eat a lot of food beyond bfast? This is true for almost 99% of us. The band is not designed to stop us from eating too much food. The bottom portion of our stomachs is still there and can accommodate mass quantities of food still. I can still eat several large wedges of pizza if I wanted to. The taste sensation can be an overwhelming feeling that some WLS patients never overcome. This is where the band comes in. We look for those satiety signals(soft stops) such as hiccups, runny nose, burps to tell us that we no longer need to eat. Distinguishing between hunger and cravings is a very subtle fine line and needs your complete attention when eating. No one tells us this before surgery but from my experience and all I've read here, satiety awareness is the key to success. Food tastes good. Try to see beyond the tastes and look for satiety. Protein first can help. tmf

Sounds like a slip to me. Not something to mess around with and should be brought to the attention of your doctor?

    sickness and diarrhoea with band.

You might want to call your surgeon and have some fluid removed in case you have a vomiting session. He'll know what to do.

    lapband failure?

Unforgiving medical professionals are the worst. I had a doctor once who insisted I eat and exercise only the way he dictated. Didn't matter what my schedule, lifestyle or tastes he wanted it only his way. My nut is flexible and tries to make allowances for my schedule and food preferences. Do you look for the soft satiety signals like hiccups, runny nose, burps? One last item, it looks like you're running short on Protein. And I mean real animal protein in your Snacks. Potatoes and crackers are like the highest on the glycemic index and metabolize quickly, leaving you hungry much sooner. Protein sticks with you longer and keeps hunger at bay. What about exercise?

    Healthy Recipes

OMG, I love and really miss Mexican food. I'll be checking this site out this week. And yes, I saw one episode of Recipe Rehab and one recipe was band friendly and the other not so much. The family went for the recipe with more starch and fewer vegetables.

Proper Calorie Intake while VERY Active

My eyeballs bugged out when I read 2200 cals I got nothing unless you're not counting all calories going in? You should be losing at least 2-4 lbs a month? Are you feeling the satiety signals with the band? I mean, is the band doing it's job but the fat loss math isn't working for you?

    Lapband diet

We've had this ongoing discussion with one of our most recent success stories. Enjoythetime has had a lot of success. Check out her photo gallery and her take on foods she ate while losing over 140 lbs in less than a year. http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/305070-i-cant-believe-it-is-this-reallty-happening-for-me/?p=3446782

    lapband failure?

But she does have restriction in the mornings which is normal for most of us so the band is working 1/3 of the time? The port pain is a concern but would depend on what kind of exercising or work she does? The tube could be wrapped around an organ causing this and I know you'd know more about misplaced foreign objects more than most. It's quite easy for new bandster's to miss the satiety signals especially if they're consuming a lot of slider foods. It's also possible she's one of those who never feels the satiety signals. And lastly, some WLS patients never get a handle on their craving anxieties and misconstrue cravings as true hunger. Therefore a few session with a nut could resolve this. I know it did for me. Addressing the daily food intake would be important and if that failed I agree that a 2nd opinion is in order.

    Adkins

I've seen a couple of people who do this on a short term basis and I've seen many who limit simple carbs completely. I keep carbs low but I do eat apples, berries. I don't eat potatoes, very few breads. I was very successful dieting with Atkins for about 25 years but it's just not sustainable. Why do you ask? Problem?
  19. Most of us feel stuff on the left side. Not much going on on the right. Could be completely disconnected to your band?
  20. CarolinaGirl had band with Plication. She's a busy girl so you might contact her here on Monday?

    First time food stuck

If you can drink liquids you have nothing in your pouch. Fluids will wash food in your esophagus and pouch through the stoma.
  22. There are a few other docs who agree with this but most doctors still adhere to the no drinking rules. And I think O'Brien only speaks of beer and not soda pop. And it's my belief that doctors still adhere to the old drinking rules because many patients abuse drinking while eating and use fluids to wash food through the band. It takes a lot of discipline to not chug Water and wash food through the stoma and eating discipline isn't one of our attributes.
  23. So, you've been here long enough to grasp how this all works? Why do you think this isn't working for you? Are you not experiencing the satiety signals? Not handling cravings? Exercise? Just trying to help!
