Let me be the contrarian here. Looking at this from a guy's point of view, I prefer to use the word "reference" in place of the word compare. We all know comparing oneself to another isn't an optimal way or logical way of gauging our progress. I like to say we should only compare ourselves to who we were yesterday or last year to who we are now. And for most of the WLS members, we're better off now than yesteryear. I'd like to see some members post their gender. It makes a difference to me how to respond and how the surgery affects them. I'd also like to see their goal weight? I would also like to see height and weight. Let's say it's a male, and he's 246 lbs. That's a lot of weight for a guy who's 5' 6" but not so bad if he's 6' 4". You could say the same for women. 170 lbs on a 5' 10" frame isn't nearly the same as it is for someone who is 5' 2". I'm not comparing people, I'm using stats to "reference" their progress or loss? And of course, these references are mearly generalizations. When I see a profile and I only see 170 lbs, I have no reference to how far away they are from achieving their goal or reference how far they've come. jmo

Pain shouldn't be a part of the green zone. Hopefully this is just a reaction to the fill on Monday and passes soon? Just curious, what makes you believe you're in the green zone? Satiety? Tightness? Inability to eat some foods or liquids? I just ask because some folks mistake a super tight band with the green zone and that's just not the case.

I'm a little confused? I went back and looked at your previous 13 posts and you were still researching the band and other WLS techniques in March but you say your were banded in January? Also, 4 fills in less than 4 months is a lot? Did you mean you have 4 CCs or did you mean you've had 4 different fills? You won't feel satiation until you get enough adjustments/fills to help you feel restriction? Finally, do you have a surgeon near you that you work with? Are they not answering your questions or advising you? Most surgeons hand out a manual on how this all works?

Why not quit just because it's so bad for you?

I hear ya! I think it took me about the same amount of time or a little longer to get to this day. About 1 year of it was my own procrastination and silly fear of losing my binkie(food).

Thank God Almighty We Are Free At Last!

Yes, it's the feeling of the ridiculing eyes that we know(or paranoidly) suspect are gazing upon our ample thighs and buttocks. But, that's in the past and yahoo, it's Spring!! -
Saw your doctor on Dr. Oz last week. Sorry, I'm no help since this new method of going through the belly button is new and I had the usualy 5 big incisions all over my body. Some were uncomfortable for up to 4 weeks but time took care of the pain. I would imagine there's a lot of activity going through that incision so it's understandable it's painful? And all we can take is Tylenol which is a poor excuse for a pain killer. Hope it feels better?

1st fill coming up. Any pointers on what to expect?

I went to youtube to see how fills were done. I didn't find any videos that showed patients having pain but the size of that damn needle still scared the Bjeezus out of me -
A week post op tomorrow.

Yeah, the topic prior to yours asked a similar question? My doctor says no Nsaids too. They can cause the lining of your stomach to allow bacteria to eat at the lining and could cause an ulcer. The most likely spot is where the band is pressuring the stomach. Check with your post op instructions or doctor? -
I'm in need of double total knee replacements so I get where you're coming from. My advice would be to call your PCP and see if you can get a cortisone shot to tide you over till your hip surgery? My doctor forbids his patients from using Nsaids but I have to confess that if I'm stuck walking a long distance(Ikea shopping) I'll fall back on 3 ibuprofens. I just hope I'm not creating an ulcer?

If you click on their forum name and look at their profile, height will be there if they provided it?

I share your illness. But for me, it was not only potato chips, it was Doritos, corn chips and Cheetos. But, the key is to not buy them and have them in the house. It's much easier to push them away on the grocery shelf than in your pantry or on your kitchen counter. Don't forget to avoid the fat filled dips too!

Scared of being STUCK!
2muchfun replied to BandedKaela's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
LOL Most of my life I always viewed women as dainty eaters with small appetites. Even women with excess weight. Then I got banded and had to slow down myself. Now, I can't help but watch everyone around me and how they eat. OMG, my wife and daughter eat like they're at an all you can eat buffet and it's a contest to see who can eat the most the quickest? Neither one is obese and maybe could lose 10 lbs but it's hard to ignore how fast people eat and how large the bites are -

You usually won't get stuck till you have a fill or two and then it's usually chicken, broccoli, rice, bread, steak. Mostly solid foods. You'll feel some pressure directly under your sternum and can feel like a golf ball is lodged there for 15-60 minutes. Nothing to fear, just eat slow and chew a lot. -

It's simple, painless, just a little pinch. -
Super! I like to set small daily goals. Martina Navratilova's strategy was one stroke at a time. One point at a time. Of course she wanted to win, but it was the little baby steps put back to back that got her to so many championships. It's great to fantasize and we all do it but don't lose sight of each daily baby step!!

The first option is usually to deflate your band completely and hope it repositions itself. Sometimes this isn't possible so they then have to remove the band and/or reposition it to where it should be. If there is lots of scar tissue, they may not be able to place it again now or ever? So sorry you're having these problems.

There's a band to sleeve thread on the sleeve forum. So sorry this happened to you. This is one of the fears many of us harbor with the band. Did this just come out of nowhere or were there early warning signs?

Sounds like you've irritated your vagus nerve. Someone else had similar symptoms just a couple days ago. Do a search for vagus nerve and you should be able to find it. Stuck episodes last only about 1 hour at the most. food stuck in your pouch is subjected to stomach acids and will break down quickly.

We see this a lot here. So many banders had their bands so tight they caused a dilation and sometimes slips. The extra tight band does keep you from being hungry but the side effects can be miserable. My advice would be to look for satiety signals such as hiccups, runny nose, burps etc. It's not wise to keep the band too tight and hopefully your surgeon understands this?
-
So, the implant caused you to be hungry and fail so far? Are you going to keep the band deflated?

FIRST TIME EVER TO GET STUCK! OUCH!
2muchfun replied to bluegudren's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sipping Water could make it worse. Your stoma is blocked so anything you swallow afterwards will back up and/or cause your esophagus to dilate to accommodate more volume. I've never had a stuck episode that caused me to scream or yell. They're mostly just very uncomfortable. -

Slime is flem or saliva that your body creates in your esophagus to allow stuck food to slide through and can come up like "slime" as in Ghostbusters. Almost always happens with a stuck episode.
