venting once again
2muchfun replied to lapper32014's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Why not let the fill take affect before you get frustrated? Fills can take up to 2 weeks to settle in. This is the time you need to look for the satiety signals and develop your new eating habits. Some doctors like to sneak up on the green zone and not rush right in only to fill too much and cause some other obvious problems? -
Now what, looking for non-sugar coated truth!

I recommend keeping up the exercise routines no matter what. I envy you as I don't think I'll ever get to the point you're at now? I think once I get to my goal weight my struggle will continue. I agree with your doc. Relax, start eating real eggs, maybe 2 instead of 1? Add a little bigger dash of cheese on that taco? Throw in some healthy Snacks like nuts, eat more than 2! Just keep the trigger foods out of reach. Maybe just let the issue take care of itself? I can understand the fear you're having but it's not a reality for me and probably never will be, so it's like me feeling for a woman having a baby, I'll never really understand?? My fear is 180° from yours. -

Most of those buffets are loaded with slider foods anyway. -
Nsaids can compromise the lining of the stomach reducing bacteria fighting elements resulting in ulcers. And ulcers tend to find their way to a pressure point such as the band site. So, most doctors ban Nsaids. Sorry, Tylenol sucks!

What does restriction feel like to you?
2muchfun replied to Red bird's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I looked back on her history and she has one of those docs who gives .5 CC fills once a month. And, she had some problems with her port site and wasn't able to get fills till the end of January. She's had 5 fills of .5 CC each fill. Lame huh? This is one of those instances where we choose our doc and have no idea how conservative they are? One must conclude that some of these docs get paid by the fill from insurance? .5 CCs is just way too conservative. -
During a long day of looking around the new Bass Pro shop near Denver, my friends and I stopped in at Hooter's for some Hot Wings. After being there for a while, one of my friends asked me which waitress I would like to be stuck in an elevator with. I told them, "The one who knows how to fix elevators." I'm old, tired, and piddle a lot.

What does restriction feel like to you?

I didn't feel any restriction till my 3rd fill and didn't find the green zone till my 6th fill so don't give up, keep going in for fills. -
Between surgery and first fill...
2muchfun replied to Vtsoutherngal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The standard answer is "this is a time for healing not losing weight". If you do lose some fat it's icing on the cake. The point of getting the band is so it can help you eat less food. That won't happen till it's adjusted. Btw 25 lbs is much More than most. -
One year anniv coming up.

I'm very open about it. When I hit my goal it'll be all over facebook and this forum.. -

Happy Belated Birthday. I'm in the middle of sizes right now. I've got 3 pairs of Docker shorts that hang on me. I have to be careful cuz if I put my keys, phone and wallet in my short pockets, they nearly fall off So, I really gotta lose 15 lbs so I can buy some new shorts.
-
I'm still searching for that happy medium. I think I'll stick with what I'd doing now and just regulate the textures and consistencies I consume. But, it's take me 2.5 years to finally feel comfortable with how much I chew and now it's become 2nd nature. I've noticed the last 24 hours that my fill from Friday is taking hold and I have just a little more restriction than I did 4 days ago. I'm one of those banders who prefers his band a little looser than some others on the forum so I'm good to go with this till Fall.

I can relate. I'm sure some mornings my T-Shirt must weigh 2 lbs

I can see it. We're always our own worst critic so keep grinding it out. I too only lost about 25 lbs the first 6 months.

Free Diabetic Newletter gives lots of tips & updates
2muchfun replied to Jack's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I went in for a fill on Friday and chatted with my Dr about the band and some of the conversations we've had here. He said the band is still popular with his practice but he is very selective in who he recommends the band to. But he did say that he's seeing a lot of diabetics who are only 40-50 lbs overweight opting for the band just to lower their insulin doses or drop them entirely? -
Regardless of what your doctors or nutritionists told you, you won't start losing weight till your band is adjusted properly. Unless, you want to D-I-E-T! And we all know how successful we were at dieting? This is the phase of your journey no one tells you about and almost all of us went through it. Try to eat healthy foods and you may not gain any weight. But this is the phase many of us call Bandster Hell. You're hungry as hell and your band isn't adjusted yet, so you can still eat bowls of food with no problem. But don't. Eat healthy and try to fill up on lean meats and veggies.
-
I'm really trying to be sympathetic here but come on, you're only 3 weeks post op? Did you think the band would go on and presto, you're skinny?? This might take years to lose all the weight. That's the tough love. Your journey does not start till your band is adjusted properly. That could be no fills or 10 fills. Many and I mean many people do not lose weight at this stage of their journey. Some gain and if you're watching the scale every day it might go up and down for several months. Nothing to worry about and you're not a failure till you give up. Your weight will never go down every day or every week. It just doesn't work that way. Good luck. tmf

Are you taking the anti-nausea meds they recommend? I've seen other people have this problem and you really don't want to be dry heaving or throwing up so soon after surgery. It can damage the sutures holding the band in place.

You need to find a happy medium. If you know you're going to eat food that might cause you a problem, try to find something that lubricates the food so it goes down without a lot of clogging. First, get rid of biscuits unless you drown them in gravy For instance, tonight we're having leftover chicken with spaghetti squash. I'm going to throw some extra ragu or prego on the squash and chicken so that it's not as gritty. I sometimes do the same for leftover salmon. I'll make up some pre-packaged hollandaise sauce to lube the dry fish. Now, we don't always eat like this, we usually eat fresh cooked food so the lube isn't necessary. One more thing. I've realized that I've become an over-chewer. I wasn't feeling a lot of satiety simply because I chew my food so much that it's like Soup. I know you think you're chewing a lot, and so did I the first year. But now, I know I wasn't the chewer I thought I was. I've become the proverbial cud chewing cow.
-
It means your band is adjusted just right and you feel satisfied with about 1 cup of food for 4-5 hours.
-
My band is 14 CC but I don't know how many CCs are in it. He put .5 CC in it and I thought that might be really aggressive but I'm not feeling a lot difference yet. I may have to go for one more?
-
I agree it's a good idea to take some or all saline out but the scope would have to break/tear through the lining of the stomach before it could damage the band. I'd think ripping through the lining of the stomach would be just a little more troubling than damaging the band.

The band has nothing in common with your scars so you can eliminate that symptom. -

Pre & Post surgery food
2muchfun replied to JumpRope's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You'll be lucky to just get Water down the first 2 days but, there's always crystal light, popsicles, broth. Liquids could be tomato Soup, yellow squash soup or any of the runny Soups. I liked egg drop soup, just make sure it's blended well. I wasn't too creative, I just relied mostly on Progresso soups for my 4 days. oops, and of course, lots of shakes and don't ask me which ones are good, they all stink.
