    Pre op diet

One binge can take you right back to ground zero.
  2. For banders, it's believed soda pop can expand the pouch causing dilation. It's also an addiction for many people and many people can't seem to stay away from it when they eat. You know, the no drinking while eating rule? I sent you a private message regarding your other ? about needing advice about your band. Need to go to the band forum please?
  3. I miss nothing. No food is more important than my health. "I'm so stinkin' thrilled with my weight loss i dont even care about what i cant eat!" Pink Dahlia

    FIRST FILL

You should ask your doctor. Every doctor will be different and each doctor may also formulate your fill structure based on your progress. The short answer is, there is no standard fill schedule that all doctors follow. Email or call your clinic and ask them. I doubt they bite

    Banded June 4th

I'm with Shazam on the pain meds. Pain meds shut down my digestive system and everything just stays in my stomach. I had little pain so it was never an issue anyway. Welcome and congrats on being on the band side.

    Me, crawling on the floor!

Re: Crawling on the floor. I always get reminded of how happy I am to have lost and kept off much of my excess weight when I'm down on the floor wrestling with our kitties and I have to get up. I no longer have to crawl to a sofa, chair or coffee table to leverage myself to a standing position because the weight was far too much on my knees to stand up where I was.

    Stuck!

Having a stuck episode that last more than 3 hours is very unusual. Your band is wrapped around the top of your stomach and food stuck in the stoma or pouch is exposed to gastric acids that break down the food into nothing. Could you have swallowed some ligament or gristle that isn't meat? I love cherries but the pits scare me? I've nearly swallowed a couple. Can't imagine how long it would take gastric acid to break down a cherry pit and don't plan on finding out? Anyway, glad you're OK now but pay attention to big bites?

I was banded 5-27-2014 and looking for a buddy

Like I said in your first post, that's up to your doctor? The entire forum here is your buddy. Just vent, ask, question, complain, advise away. tmf

    5 days post opp

Most docs want you to drink 64+ ozs of fluids a day and my doctor included the shake. So, replace some of the Water with a shake? Yes, you may become very hungry. It happens to almost everyone. Until you can eat solids and your band is adjusted you may feel like you're starving. X fingers this doesn't happen?

    May 27th Banding

I've never seen anyone get a fill after 2 weeks. Your sutures holding the band in place are still healing. After 2 weeks? Depends on your doctors personal protocol. There's no standard as each Dr is different. Most likely just more of the same except they'll let you start adding back in mushies and some semi solids? I wouldn't expect a fill till your 30 day checkup.
  14. Even after your 2nd fill or even if you make it to the green zone you'll still have to be careful how much and what you eat. I'm in the green but the munchies/craving demon still haunts my thoughts.

    Stuck!

Beef can be tough on the band unless you eat very small and chew to mush. I only eat hamburger and tenderloin now or I risk a stuck episode too. I assume your stuck episode is past?

    Goodness Gracious

KAB, my band is also more open in the evenings. Many of us can eat whatever we want but that would mean caving in to cravings. Since we've already eaten dinner we really don't need to eat any more in the evenings. I think they call this mindful eating? Are you really hungry or just craving your trigger foods? This is something the band can curb but not eliminate. And no matter what WLS you get, it will always be an issue. This is where discipline comes in and almost everyone here has caved at some time. There is no cure for this other than being mindful that this is truly hunger or a craving?

    Goodness Gracious

Just an update since you posted while I was typing. If you're tight in the morning and noon, you probably don't need a fill? If there was any way you can eat more solid food those two meals, you'll feel less hungry. Popcorn is like sugar, it will spike your insulin levels making you hungry within an hour. Definitely delish, but not a good snacking choice and you're right, nighttime snacking is a no-no. And do you exercise?

    Goodness Gracious

FYI-We can all eat more food if we choose to? But, if you look for the soft stops and satiety signals you can avoid many of these speed bumps? I chose the band because I believed I could listen to what my body was telling me and just needed a little help. Some people need more than this? Some WLS patients need someone to put a cork in their mouth to stop them from over-eating. The sleeve can do this for you but the sleeve won't stop you from eating the wrong foods. So, the bottom line is, no WLS is perfect. The signals may be there for you, are you listening and do you want to listen?

What does restriction feel like to you?

Hello Andrea, Can I offer some advice on posting to this forum? There are only 8 people who follow this particular thread so if you want more people to see your posts, you should start your own topic/thread. That way hundreds of banders will see your thread and you will receive more advice. Sorry, I got no advice for losing hair. Seems to be mostly a female issue? But congrats on the 30 lbs lost and yes it's hard to change those old eating habits of too fast and too much isn't it?

    Cooking for 5!

Why not just feed them something solid and nutritious? You're going to have to do this sooner or later? You can still have your soup and they can eat chicken and veggies?

    venting once again

Jim, that was an interesting stroll down memory lane! I used to post on this old thread, Dr. Kirschenbaum. I recall ranting on there in February of 2012 similar to the vent on this topic but maybe with some more colorful language. Good to read these old posts to remind ourselves what newbies we once were and OMG, how naïve I once was.

    venting once again

I wish I could go back and find one of my posts from my first 4 months. I was bitching about it too!!

    Nightime

This is a question you need to run by your surgeon. My gut feeling(pun not intended) is that you're over-thinking this. I don't think we can feel the band unless there's some swelling from a stuck episode? Are you following the dietary restrictions and not eating solids yet?
