86% will regain the weight they lost after WLS
2muchfun replied to Dreamin Again's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
You should challenge her to document her assertion? Regain what? Here's a recent study. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3570360/ -
Help! Need some advice!
2muchfun replied to Mooseg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds like you could be swollen from the surgery. I've read many posts similar to yours from newly banded patients or patients who were recently filled. Try chewing on ice chips to get enough fluids. And if it becomes too hard or impossible to swallow any fluids call your surgeon. They may have primed your band at surgery and they can take some saline out? tmf -
Sounds like you've forgot how this all works? Here's a refresher course to familiarize yourself with your band. I highly recommend you go back to your surgeon and nutritionist for a reset. But, in the meantime, watch/read this: http://drsimpson.net/video/video_1/video_series_1.htm

First, you're much too early in this process to be fretting about slips and problems. We all feel full if we eat too much. Second, only your surgeon can tell if you're band is in trouble and it rarely occurs. Catfish's suggestion is very valid.

Got complacent.. and I need to move forward!

Our hearts go out to you Judy. It's been 12 years since my Mom passed and I think of her every day. -
Here's a video that explains it better than I can. But, it's basically when your band has the right amount of saline giving you just the right amount of restriction/satiety. But, the video tells it better: http://youtu.be/K5CLZlWJ2EU

You might want to post this in the general weight loss forum. Most of us banders don't drink smoothies due to the high carb count and they're a slider food. Posting on the general WL forum will expose your question to hundreds of people who may have an answer. jmo tmf

MD specific. It's going to depend on some different factors. Some doctors like you to sneak up on restriction/satiety because it takes some time to learn how to eat like a Bandster. How much was put in during surgery? If he put in 5 CCs then 1 CC now is about right? How did your Q&A go before the fill? Did you tell him you're starving or that you're eating less due to the band? Did you lose a lot of weight since surgery? But, 1 CC is rather anemic from what I've read?

Let us know when the fill kicks in and if you're close to the green zone? He must have hit a small vein. It happens.

Honesty is the best approach. Either tell her or when she asks about it, tell her. If she questions why you did it and never told her, tell her that you felt WLS was necessary and she wasn't very supportive and brushed you off with a wave of her hand. You never know, she may have been having a bad day that day. But don't be intimidated because she has a degree. My PCP tried to help me and gave me some stupid print outs that just mimicked the FDA's nutritional guidelines. He was clueless. Most of these PCPs, nurse practitioners and PAs have lots of experience diagnosing the flu, pinkeye and women's issues, but lack experience or knowledge in how to help people lose weight and keep it off. tmf

Second fill feels tighter two weeks after the fill
2muchfun replied to JustWatchMe's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I got a fill on the 30th of May. I didn't feel much till about 4-5 days in and it seems to get tighter each day. I had two stuck episodes just today. Loooonnng episodes. And it's mostly mornings. I'm eating much less now too. All in all I'm happy with it. I just need to pay closer attention to those bite sizes and how quickly I eat. -
I can't stop thinking about food O_o
2muchfun replied to bbbanded's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Maybe you have too much time on your hands? Idle minds and all you know? My work and my workouts consume most of my thoughts. So I think of food but only about how I can make meals more tasty using healthier ingredients. -
I'm banded and it's working for me but I do recognize the band requires more discipline to lose weight and the complications with the band is more. Here's one of the bands successes: http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/310313-300-pounds-lateram-i-living-a-dream-or-is-this-in-fact-reality/?p=3502477 Jennifer above has a good point. I'd never thought this way before but it's a legit concern?

Let me be Danny Downer. This is only one side of a story. "IF" this surgeon didn't prepare and advise his patient, that's malpractice.

There are many sleevers who are part of our North group and they may respond to your request later today. There are also support groups at Swedish and Skyridge but if you have Kaiser I'm not sure any of the docs are part of these support groups?

LAP BAND REVISION AFTER 10 YEARS
2muchfun replied to nerms's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Here's a study regarding band erosion and surgical removal: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3268139/ -
Many of the members here paid out of pocket for the entire amount. And "deductibles" vary greatly from $0-$5,000. If you have credit cards, usually you can use them?
-
Soft foods already? Double check your post op instructions? That's very unusual but not impossible that a doctor would allow soft foods so soon? Most of us had to go at least a week before soft foods. I was on liquids for about 8 days and then mushies. Welcome to the other side.

Where do you live? There are several support groups you can attend including ours? I'm banded so I'm no help with the sleeve or RNY.

LAP BAND REVISION AFTER 10 YEARS
2muchfun replied to nerms's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I googled it too and glad no one is doing those anymore(I hope). Yes, there are several here who have suffered with a band that has eroded into the stomach and it's called erosion. It's dangerous and usually they won't place another band over an erosion site. Go to the search engine on this site and search for erosion under all forums and you'll find many discussions about erosion? -
LAP BAND REVISION AFTER 10 YEARS
2muchfun replied to nerms's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I've never heard of anyone who couldn't have their band removed. It's a simple surgery unless there are erosion issues? Sometimes a new band cannot be installed due to excessive scar tissue and the surgeon won't know this till they get in to the body cavity to see? Finally, I've also never heard of a band that's not adjustable and could stretch? Maybe your information isn't correct or the band that's around her stomach stopped being adjustable due to a leak or being faulty? tmf -
First, I don't mean to offend you but posting within this topic is considered hi-jacking. No worries, seems like many do it but you'll get more advice and more people will see your dilemma if you start your own thread/topic. There are only 3 people who follow this thread and if you start a new topic hundreds will see your post and offer advice. Now to your question? Sounds like you're either too tight and also sounds like your band may have slipped. See that doctor asap!!

Gotta love those who are informed. Good luck and keep in touch. -
Never heard of it but I just googled it. It's just a powder right? If you're successful with eating normal food why would you want to go on a diet? If it's a liquid you drink, it's a slider food and will go right through the band and not give you any kind of satiety? If you're OK with that I see no reason why you can't go with it. But, why would you if you're already having success with eating normal food? tmf
