    Lapband with plication

You should start your own thread/topic. There are only 6 people following this thread so if you want more people to reply you should start your own topic. That way hundreds of eyes will see your question. But to answer your question, there is no standard of how fast we lose and no time line. Each person is an individual and some follow the rules to a T and others don't. You'd be better off if you can use a PC and search through the different topics/threads to find your answer. It's been asked hundreds of times. You'll find many who have lost all their fat and others who failed completely.

    Getting Stuck

Does your doctor allow you to eat solid food yet? Be careful you don't damage the sutures holding your band in place?

    Slow progress.

I lost 12 lbs the first 2 weeks and then nothing for the next 3.5 months. Unfortunately your dilemma is somewhat normal. If you don't feel different, are you feeling any restriction when you eat food or do you feel any satiety? I knew why I didn't lose weight those 4 months and it was because I was eating too much food largely because I didn't feel any satiety after meals. I was basically on a diet and of course we don't do well on diets. But as soon as I got my 3rd fill and I had a consult with my nutritionist, I started losing 5-7 lbs a month. It took 3 more fills to reach the green zone. You probably just need more fills? Some people need up to 6 fills to get the scale to start moving?

    Air

Your pouch/stoma is probably still swollen so even liquids struggle to pass through. Swelling should subside in a few days and if not call your doctor?

    Mushy food to soft food

Every doctor may have their own idea of what is a soft food but imo cheese chewed up would be a soft food.

What kind of sliders can you eat and what kind of food can you not eat?
  7. Your best bet would be to go to a PC and search for surgeons in your area and call them and ask your question? The surgeon search engines are at the top and bottom of this page. tmf

    Hi there folks

Coke is also a very good esophagus and pouch dilator. I don't think you understand how serious your medical issue is? It could stay just as it is for a few years or overnight you might end up in an ER with an eroded band. Or, stretch your esophagus to the point it no longer performs peristalsis. Then you'd be on liquids for the remainder of your life.

    New to group.

Always follow your doctors orders! You may become very hungry soon. Many of us felt like we were starving to death shortly after surgery. It's called Bandster Hell. It's the period of time between surgery and when you get that one fill that gives you a feeling of satiety for several hours. No one told me about this till a month after surgery. Let's X our fingers and hope you escape BH. There's plenty of time to sweat. Don't rush the exercise, just follow Dr's orders as to how much and when to exercise. And welcome to the boards. tmf

    Bruising

While You Were Sleeping So I'm sorry to be too graphic here but remember, someone filled your body cavity full of gas, they pumped fluids, medications, antibiotics and anesthesia into your body. They punched 5 holes in your abdomen, moved all your inner body parts around, shoved a tube down your throat, took an electric scalpel and burned away excess fat and tissue wrapped around your upper stomach, then wrapped a plastic strap around your stomach just below the lower esophogeal sphincter, stitched it in place with 5-6 sutures bringing your lower stomach up and over the band and then snaked a tube out of your body and then sewed another plastic piece to the muscle tissue on your rib cage. Now, thinking about all that has been done to your body, you're doing quite well aren't you?
  11. Why do you think you vomited? Vomiting at this stage can cause the sutures holding the band in place to tear away. I'd call the office in the morning just to be safe but they'll probably tell you to go back to liquids for a few days. Slow down when you eat and don't gulp food or fluids. It takes a while to understand how slowly we have to eat.

    Sliming question...

I edited my response so go back and read the last paragraph. It does give you a sick feeling. And then you slime. And then you should spit it up and out. It usually takes about 10-45 mins to pass.

    Sliming question...

Sliming is caused by food backing up into your esophagus. Its your body's response to help stuck food slide into your stomach. For me its usually a result of eating too fast and too big. Over-eating is similar to how we felt before the band. Your lower stomach is still there so we can still fill that part up with lbs of food. Stuck is when food clogs in front of the band/stoma from not chewing enough, taking too large of a bite or eating too fast. It feels like a soft /golfball beneath your ziphoid(breastbplate). Its very uncomfortable and can be painful as well.

    Eating after a fill

Your stoma may get inflamed from the extra squeeze and you can get food stuck much easier at this time. 24 hours isn't that long to follow the rules! Be good!

    Whats the change?

Sometimes our stomachs and esophagus acclimate to the new restriction and the muscles adapt and become stronger. Peristalsis moves the food through the pouch with muscle contractions. The muscles can become stronger. Just one theory.

    Feeling discouraged

50 lbs is very good and better than average. You're about 7 months out and at this rate you could lose 100 lbs by your 1st anniversary. Where would you be without the band? Less or more??
  17. That's a miniscule mistake. How much is in your band is irrelevant to how your level of satiety can be. Knowing how much is in the band is information, but not the type of information that is useful. The amount of saline in our bands does not equate to a particular level of satiety or restriction. But it's good you had some removed. I too had some removed 2 years ago but then realized I was getting stuck because I was eating too fast and too big. It's a hard lesson to learn. So, I had them add it back and now I've been in the green zone for 4 months.

    More Steps Forward

I mourned the loss of my favorite foods till I was banded and learned I could still eat them if I wanted. But I don't want to nearly as much as before. Wonder how good you're going to look and feel one year from now, that's the silver lining.

    Lap band removed

That's unfortunate your band didn't work for you. Seems like there's a very small percentage of patients whose bodies reject the band and I can see how that does happen. Not sure why you wanted to find a picture of a stomach but if you google cadaver stomach images you can find as many disgusting pictures as you want? Good luck in the future and if you don't go with another WLS technique I'd recommend the 5:2 intermittent fasting diet. Quite easy to stay on and it does work. tmf
  21. My gas production is not any more than it was before surgery so this side effect you speak of(I've never heard it before) may not happen to all of us.
  22. 2muchfun

    Keeping my head up!

Consider the 5:2 intermittent fasting diet if you do decide to go back to dieting? I altered it to be 4:3 for myself but I've found that intermittent fasting diets are much easier to tolerate than 7 days a week depriving. I had plateaued for 3 months and now have lost 15 lbs in 2.5 months with the IF method.

What Turns You on More Than Food?

I've never had a problem with motivation. I suppose the need to be healthy and looking better never leaves my thoughts. But, it's so common here to see so many who have fallen off the wagon and are looking for motivation to restart their journey. I understand your message in the video but it seems like that's not enough for some people? Breaking it down to something even more simple(and it's already very simple) might be in order? tmf
  24. You won't lose weight every week or maybe not every month. Read this article: http://www.dsfacts.com/weight-loss-stall-or-plateau.html

    Hi there folks

Nothing you are experiencing is normal. I have lots of questions but you should really consult with a bariatric surgeon. Maybe get a fluoroscopy/X-Ray to see where your band is? Your band may have slipped or worse. Anything posted here would be pure speculation. IMO, you should either have your band removed or learn how it's supposed to work. Vomiting and being a world class vomiter is at the very top of the activities recommended to NOT do. tmf
