Are You Stretching Your Pouch If...

You should start your own thread/topic for this Delilah. And if you do, please provide more information such as what you eat, drink, exercise, fills, doctor visits? Most people have a very good idea why they haven't lost weight? Maybe you could offer some reasons why you think you haven't? tmf

I Am Having Such A Hard Time Now.

Go to your nutritionist. She/he should be able to pin down your plateau problem. That's their job. tmf

    Weight Gain

Even skinny people gain weight over vacations. Unless you were consuming a cube of butter per meal it's mostly Water weight from the extra carbs and sodium and not fat. tmf

    Great Day

Amen!! I've been preaching nutritionist counseling for months. I really thought I knew it all, but back in March my nutritionist pointed out some mistakes I was making and ever since then I've continuously lost weight. Going to the grocery store with you is brilliant though. tmf
  7. It's only been 2 weeks! Two weeks is 4% of 1 year. tmf
  8. Can we keep this topic up for a month or two? Or, forever? 18% here. I am such a loser

    Peaches.

We? Meaning, banded and beyond post op diet restraints? Yes, you can eat whatever you want to eat. But it's a slider food and won't provide the satiety needed to feel full? You should fill out your profile so we know where you are in your journey? It's difficult to recommend much if we don't know your short term history? tmf

    Food Sticking In Esophagus?

First bite syndrome. Oh yeah! I had something similar myself. As time went along it went away and in fact, I had completly forgot about it till your post. I agree with both previous responses. Smaller bites, slow down and chew, chew, chew. Although, in my case, I was on solids 4 weeks out and on soft foods about 2 weeks out. tmf

    What Should I Do

Does your friend have a lot of insight with bariatrics? Is she also obese? Does she have medical experience? Has she tried 34 different diets only to fail with every one of them? Does she fear for her health due to obesity? Can she walk in your shoes? tmf

    Just Starting

There is much to learn. Look at the poster prior to this one. She wrote a 540 page book about living with the lapband. Buy it. I wish I would have before surgery and I wouldn't have been in the dark for so long. tmf

    Hard Time With Fills?

The lining in your stomach must be thicker than most or the fat layer around your stomach is thicker. Or, the doctor should have used a 14 cc band? As long as it works, should not be a problem. I don't see a downside? tmf

Go to the very top of this page on the right side you will see an aqua/blue strip with your screen name "F1stborn". There's a down arrow next to it. tmf
  18. But it's so minimal? Read this: "In absolute terms, the adjusted figures represent an additional four to five cases of cardiovascular diseases per 10,000 women per year compared with those who did not regularly eat a low carbohydrate, high Protein diet." Also, they didn't compare a low carb, moderate protein diet to a high carb and high protein, high fat content diet(what most of us came from). The study also says that a short term low carb, high protein diet for the purposes of weight loss outweigh the risks associated with the diet. And I have to agree that most of us plan on eating a more moderate carb and protein diet once we reach our goal weights. I don't think I ever want to go back to the Atkins days either but the South Beach way of eating seems more reasonable to me? tmf

    Gooooodbye To Sandra Dee!

Take pictures. You won't regret it.
  20. Bands have a mind of their own. At least mine does. She can be very accommodating some days and even go 3-4 days being nice and then, bam, she gets an attitude. Then I can go 4 days where everything but Soup gets stuck. I do know that I'm still struggling to eat slower, take smaller bites and chew but there are times this doesn't work at all. I've read from others who experience the same. It's our lives with the band I'm afraid. Seriously though, it's got to be the linings of our stomach expanding and contracting to all kinds of influences such as sodium, meds, blood flow, temperatures, time of day and edema. And of course, how fast we eat, how much we eat and how much we chew? I'm going in Friday for a small unfill. I hate to do it since I'm losing weight but I don't like this roller coaster and I'd rather take a few months longer to lose my weight than be so uncomfortable now. tmf

    Banded 4/20/12 And Concerned.......

The band is a tool, not a panacea. It won't do it all and it won't do anything till it's adjusted correctly to work with your body. It may take several months for the adjustments to take effect and it will depend on your cooperation. It's just a diet till you find restriction. Don't feel frustrated and don't give up. Most of us have been where you are and it does get better but it may take a while. Will you have to diet? Yes, in some ways you will. You can't eat the foods you ate before the band. If you want to call that a diet, so be it. But, if you want to lose fat and be healthy you can't drink 3 litres of soda pop, eat a quart of ice cream or a bucket of fried chicken even once a month. The band is a tool to help you learn how to eat healthy and if that PA told you that restriction wasn't a factor, he/she was wrong. See your doctor or your nutritionist. Get a fill or two. Learn how to communicate with your band. Your band will talk to you if you listen. And it can be very angry if you don't. tmf

Are You Stretching Your Pouch If...

I don't see how you could stretch your pouch if you don't get a stuck feeling? food would have to fill up your pouch and then expand your pouch because you keep overeating and the food has no place to go. Most of us would be so uncomfortable or in pain that it couldn't happen. I suppose in some cases where the pouch had a lot of elasticity you could do this but that would have to be rare I would think? tmf

    Adding A Pic..

Go to the top menu and click on your forum name on the aqua/blue band at the top right. Click on my profile and then click on "edit profile". You will find "Change my photo" here and also in the small blue band is another area called photos to add your pics. tmf

    Getting A Fill?

Looking at syringe I would imagine .1 cc is about as low as one could see. .2-.3 should do the trick if you're already feeling some restriction. Everyone will be different with how much saline can be added. It will depend on how much pressure the stomach is pushing back with? All stomach linings will be different in thickness. tmf
