10 lbs is average so maybe you misunderstood him or were you reading between the lines? That's a rather odd response from a bariatric doc? tmf
-
So, what is his problem? Is he a non believer? Is he one of those who uses the word "Just"? Just do this, just eat that, just work out more, just eat more vegetables, just get a gym membership, just do what I do, just try harder? And then there's the "all you have to do is" fill in the blanks for that one. Sorry, that was a rant but I've heard it before. tmf

Wondering What Is Wrong.
2muchfun replied to Skdwright's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
First, this is going to be a long journey and you will have hills and valleys. It's not going to be a steady stairway to skinny heaven. And I mean looooonnnnggg journey. So never fret over a week or two setback. Carolina is right. You can no longer gulp your food or even liquids. Some of us can, but you sound like you still have a lot of inflammation around your band so slow down and take it easy. The clear sticky stuff you PB'd(productive burp) is your body's mechanism to aid stuck food through your esophogus. More on that when you start getting fills and get stuck. It's OK to spit it out. It's not OK to have PB with every meal but it will happen many times if you are normal. tmf -
Most of us take in at least 64 ozs of fluids a day. That's 4 lbs of Water. It's very easy to retain 25% or more of that with meds, sodium and carb intake in just one day. Don't obsess over such small weight fluctuations over one week. Maybe over 2 months? tmf

I'm Actually Kinda Hungry....is This Normal?
2muchfun replied to BeeBlueHeron's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was hungry the very next day. I don't think there is a limit to clear liquids. Just try to keep the caloric count low and stay away from fruit juices or beverages with sugar. tmf -
Are you drunk? You're not new? I've responded to some of your posts. You've been posting for over 2 months and an earlier topic looked like an add on Craigslist? tmf

No Weight Loss In The Last 5 Days
2muchfun replied to Domika03's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's not holding onto fat, it's holding onto water. Most of our weight loss the first 30 days is water/fluids. Foods, medications, menstrual cycles(not me ) all play a part in how much water we bandsters retain. The most fat any of us can lose in a week is around 2 lbs unless you run a marathon a few times a week? Average after the first 3 months is probabaly closer to 1 per week. It's very easy to add on 2-4 lbs of water in a single day depending on the foods we eat, sodium intake and exercise. So don't sweat not losing for 5 days. I went 3.5 months without losing but like another poster said, I spoke to my dietician and got my 3rd fill and I started losing weight again. tmf -
Egg drop soup got me by. Not entirely liquid but try to keep it on a spoon.
-
Drink a Protein shake or broth. Just follow the Dr's orders. You will feel hunger until you get a fill that moves you closer to the green zone. We have a fellow forum member whose slogan is: Until there's restriction....It's just another diet. And I assume you're still on liquids? tmf

Yes I am. November 3rd. tmf

Had to post this. I've been at a plateau for about 5 weeks now. No fault of the band, it's me. I live in Colorado and it's harvest time here. Corn, zuchinni, green chili peppers, cantaloupe, green beens, fruit of all kinds and the list can go on and on. For me, this is worse than the Holidays. Only during the Holidays the temptations are truly bad foods for you. Now, it's fresh fruit and veggies. Can't help myself and eat more than I should. I'm not apologizing, I'm probably boasting a little Oh, I'm not gaining any weight, in fact, I think as soon as the harvest is over, I can drop 3-4 lbs in a few days. You know when you get to that point where if you were disciplined for a week you could break that plateau? That's where I am but I don't wanna right now! LOL... If you're like me, click the LIKE tab. Just curious how many of you out there love natural foods? tmf

Well, I really wouldn't want to be a banister, but being a bandster is mighty fine! tmf

Today is my 9 month bandiversary too. Down 47 with 33 to go. Yes, it sure slowed down didn't it? I've been at this same weight for 5 weeks now but I'm taking responsibility for the plateau. If I could be more disciplined in my food intake I think I could drop 3-4 lbs in a few days. It's harvest time and I love the fruit and vegetables that are available right now. I'm eating well and eating healthy but I'm eating a little too much. I may go back in for a small fill myself. Seems like everything goes down too easy right now. But, going to Mexico in 2 months and don't want to be too tight so I think I'll wait till after the trip or even January. Losing 2-3 lbs a month till then is acceptable to me at this point. tmf

Just A Thought...do We Self-Sabotage Ourselves Sometimes?
2muchfun replied to sylviau's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Recognize that reasonably-sized changes--even baby steps or micromovements, that you are willing to practice consistently will help you gradually rewire what feels good to you....Michelle May Ask for your limitations and they're yours...Richard Bach Sometimes to get where you want to go, you have to do what you are afraid to do. You must be brave and push forward. Miracles occur when you give as much attention and energy to your dreams as you do to your fears....Unknown Yes, they're hokey comments but seem to fit how you feel? I could say the same thing with every 5 lb plateau I've hit. But I try real hard not to. tmf -
It took me at least 7 days post-op to begin to feel somewhat normal. For me, it was the medications, anesthesia, anti-biotics they poured into my body. I know I was in shock for a week. Maybe it's necessary but I really never want to go back there again. tmf

Many bandsters fret over the size of their band and how much Fluid is in it. It's not important at all. For some people 1 CC may be enough and for others it may take all 14 CCs to get them to the green zone. Every one is different. Less is not better and more is ditto. Every doctor is different too. I would go in with no expectations at all because it's just not important. Some doctors fill by how much pressure it takes to push the saline through the port and they can feel this in the syringe. Others may have a set amount they like to use on the first visit. Every stomach is different. Some have thicker or thinner stomach lining? Some have a slightly different shape near the upper sphincter. Some doctors put the band on closer to the top of the stomach and others lower. Some bandsters have a lot of fat surrounding the stomach so less saline/fill works better. tmf

Some doctors are slowly coming around to some new statistics regarding fluids before and during meals. Here are a couple of links to some good information regarding liquids with meals: http://www.globalgastricbandsolutions.com.au/lap-band-diet-drinking-and-eating-with-your-food/ This is a series of 4 videos and I highly recommend all 4. Go to about 6:30 minutes into this video before the lecture on eating with fluids begins: I have always drank before a meal with the band and don't understand the panic from doctors over drinking before we eat. I stll monitor my beverage intake while eating and keep it very low. tmf

What foods are causing the pain?

The tummy rumbles have been with me since surgery. Still get them, just got one a minute ago. Your port is sutured to the fascia of your stomach and any movement from your stomach could stress those sutures so early after surgery. tmf
-
I can see that happening. Tell him next time that he needs to keep some pressure on the port with his other hand so that when he pulls the syringe away, it doesn't stick in the port which pulls the port away from where it's sutured into your muscle fascia. It's never happened to me but it's understandable how it could happen. Some other patients will probably clue him in and maybe by the time you go next time, he'll have perfected his technique? tmf

Calorie Intake Pre-Op Diet??
2muchfun replied to Kaytlyn Allen's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Seems low. Depends on how you are feeling. The goal at this stage is to shrink your liver. If 1000 calories will do it why starve yourself? Check with your doctor or nutritionist? You should have some kind of pamphlet or manual by now? tmf -
It's a mystery to me. Mine took effect almost immediately. tmf
-
You know, it's easy to see why they would do this. That time between fills was so valuable to me to learn how to eat properly and I don't think I really got it till my 6th fill. I only went 3 weeks twice but the other times it was closer to 40 days. And I would imagine if a doctor has 500+ patients and he allowed them to come in every two weeks or so he'd never have time for surgery. Of course, many docs now have their nurses administer fills. tmf
-
3 weeks for me. Most docs prefer you wait at least 2-4 weeks between because with some bandsters it can take up to 2 weeks before the fill becomes effective. 10 days is the extreme I would think. tmf
