Swelling can effect the band too. Too much sodium, TOM, too many carbs will make you retain water/swelling, band irritation.

Standing O for this one!!! -
Aerobic exercise is good to do every day, but strength needs a few days off between.

So, on the bright side, you do have some restriction. That's good news! Now you know why they say small bites, chew, chew, chew?

Cynthia, about the shakes? I thought I'd be drinking a lot of shakes too. So I went to some health food/vitamin store and bought this huge tub of chocolate shake stuff. I drank about 15 shakes and couldn't take it any longer. They're not gross, but I was able to get my protein from regular food with no problem so I stopped drinking them. I still have a lot of it left over and use it when I get fills or want to go on liquids for a few days to jump a plateau. I wouldn't rush right out and buy the first barrel of shakes you see. Some of them are quite disgusting. Do a search on this site and you'll find some good advice from some folks who drink that stuff a lot.

Do I have to say goodbye to chicken?
2muchfun replied to fericito's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
At my last fill 3 weeks ago, my doctor said that as time goes along, our stomach adapts to squeezing food past the stoma. In other words, that pouch has been a lazy slacker for years and now, because it's used so much and has to perform much more, it becomes stronger. In time you should be able to eat chicken again. In the meantime I agree with the others. Dark meat. If you do eat chicken breast, try to include some sauce like marinara or salsa? If I put it in a salad, the dressing helps a lot. -
It's probably both. More muscle mass and more fluid retention.

Sugar plays games with your insulin levels causing them to go up and then crash down. This only makes you want more simple carbohydrates like sugar or processed flours. Sugar has no benefit or use in a healthy diet. They are empty calories. You should spend some time with a nutritionist. Cutting back on healthy foods your body needs for a sugar fix is not a wise choice. I do allow myself two Hershey bliss' after dinner most nights. But only at night and never during the day. Otherwise I'd be going back for more. Why are you buying $50 worth of shakes? After a few weeks you will seldom ever need them?

I lost 12 lbs the first 2 weeks and then nothing for the next 3.5 months. I started feeling restriction with my 3rd fill and after a consult with my nutritionist, I started to lose weight. Took me 6 fills to get to the green zone.

Eating at restaurants
2muchfun replied to sapcat54's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I order whatever I want but try to keep it healthy. There are no foods that always get stuck with me. -
PB=Productive Burp is when you get stuck and burp up some of the food. Small regurgitation of food when stuck. There is no norm for post op diet weight loss. Anywhere from 0-50 depending on what you consider a post op diet and how long it lasts? Mine was 12 lbs for the first 4 months.

Better learn to like it, it aint going away too soon.

Just to add to my earlier comment, I agree it seems unlikely that you wouldn't be losing weight with the regiment you're on. The math says you should be losing. That's what I thought too, but I was grazing here and there and was not eating the foods that helped my band to be the "tool" it's designed to be.
-
I would recommend you speak to your nutritionist? I too thought I was eating right but she opened my eyes and gave me a few options to replace the foods I was eating. Made a big diff for me.

Sorry to wear these boards out with posts
2muchfun replied to klr2012's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
About 1/3 of people in the U.S. are obese. Let's throw out children. So, maybe 70 million are obese? Maybe 350,000 have had the lapband? So, for every person in the U.S. who has a band, there are 200 people who have failed to lose weight by dieting? Very rough stats of course, but I'd say the stats are on your side? tmf -

Anyone cheat on their preop diet?
2muchfun replied to kerri360's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Elin Woods countered Tiger Woods' most recent re-proposal to marry again with a prenup demand that if he cheated, he would forfeit $335,000,000. For .01% of that same amount I vow to never cheat on my band again. -
