Fred is right. Don't expect your experiences to mirror someone else's. There are some basic rules that should be followed to avoid injuring yourself or the integrity of the surgery. Follow your surgeon's instructions. tmf

Fluids will always pass through with no problem with or without a fill and even if you're in the green zone.

I agree with everyone. Just imagine that large bolus of food pressing on the stomach lining of your pouch and then the stoma. You'll probably experience a little swelling from this. It's like a bruise so maybe for the next 12-24 hours eat soft foods and don't challenge your band so the swelling goes away?

Beer contains empty calories. Since you're taking in limited calories there's not a lot of room for such an extravagance? I faced the exact same concern 3 months out and my nut said if I wanted to lose weight I'd have to give up on some of my fetishes. Beer is one of them. Beer also lowers your will power to avoid snacking and late night eating. Try to limit your consumption to maybe 2 beers a week. Once you get to your goal weight you may be able to add beer back into your routine? tf

Banded 1/30 Not Losing??
2muchfun replied to bandedally's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Relax, what you commented on is very common. I lost 12 lbs the first 2 weeks and then nothing for the next 3.5 months. Here's a video that confirms everything everyone else has posted. You're doing super! -
Just had my surgery yesterday
2muchfun replied to berries16's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ibuprofen? Did your doctor clear you to take ibuprofen? It's one of those drugs that are on most all docs list of no no drugs? Tylenol is OK but supposedly ibuprofen can cause ulcers if they get hung up in your pouch. tmf -

I wouldn't force fluids to the point you're uncomfortable or your stomach is distended. -

Well Hello! How ya feelin? You sound rather chipper for 1 week out? tmf -
I have bad news! If you want a professional opinion and support, you're going to have to pay someone else to help you. I wouldn't waste my time with your old clinic. They will only depress and discourage you. It really sucks, but what can you do? Find a doc who is supportive and cheap if possible? There's a surgeon button at the top of this page if you want to look for surgeons in your area? I strongly advise you to research your new doc and make sure they're in this for the next decade or more. And, check out that support staff. You already know how wonderful it was with your previous nurse? Find another. Look for some support groups in your area too. They're a wealth of information about office cultures. tmf

OK, found this awesome video on youtube. Or maybe it's just gross? Anyway, fat vs muscle and of course as we all know, "They can't put it on the internet if it isn't true"
-
Uh, I think not? Where did you hear that? A lb of muscle will take up less space than a pound of fat. Now I've never taken out a lb of my own fat and compared it to a lb of my own muscle but my nutritionist has these 1 lb models in her office and clearly, muscle takes up less space. Your two sentences contradict each other BTW. "It is denser than fat and it is tighter "wound" if you will than fat" VS "muscle does weigh more than fat since it takes a lot more muscle fibers to fill a glass for instance than it takes loose-fibered blubber" Dense means more weight per cubic inch. tmf

My doctor offered lifetime fills and I would imagine if he retired I'd have to find a different doctor to fill me. So, what are you eating that caused you to abandon receiving a fill? I'm not so sure the popularity of the band is dwindling. I have only seen more doctors here opening offices and offering banding. tmf

Hit me Jeff, I'm open! Great job!

Having a cold can dehydrate you so it's easy to lose fluids. I can gain 5 lbs over one weekend if I eat foods with a lot of sodium and carbs. Like a pizza. I had a pizza last night for my wife's Bday. I gained 4 lbs overnight. It will take 3 days to squeeze those fluids out but I'll do it. Restaurant food has a lot of sodium in it. If you want to break the plateau, put the salt shaker down, stay away from carbs, especially simple carbs, for a week. tmf

Weighing Food - Before or After Cooked
2muchfun replied to Redesigned_Curves's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you asking about how much you're to eat? I thought it was measured by cup size and not weight size but I could be wrong and some doctors may have different parameters. It's how much food fits into 1/2-1 cup as I understand it. How much it weighs should be irrelevent? Now if you're weighing food to measure calories and nutrition, it would be before cooking. jmo tmf -
Weighing Food - Before or After Cooked

You're splitting hairs. -
I blame my kids for my weight gain in the 90's and early 2K. They loved tater tots and of course I always heated up too many. I still love em but haven't had one since my surgery. On the other hand, I had pizza tonight, very very good pizza. My wife's Bday was today so we allowed ourselves this one treat. No regrets.

First day of full liquids- too much???
2muchfun replied to Mellzbellz21's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Contra is right. Just eat or drink till you feel satisfied. Don't force fluids or calories till you heal some more. tmf -
First day of full fluids didn't go so well.....suggestions??
2muchfun replied to NurseKelly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you're still taking pain medication, the meds can shut down your digestive system causing fluids to stay in your stomach. For me, the sphincter in the lower part of my stomach closes off completely. Don't worry about calories at this point. tmf
