And one more thing. I'd still take a 50% chance of becoming happily thin over 0% if I didn't.

You're reading studies about the old lapband from 15 years ago. There are 3 different versions of the band and the most recent version has a much lower revision rate. http://www.lifeshape.net/blog/2013/02/study-demonstrates-the-long-term-benefit-of-laparoscopic-adjustable-gastric-banding/
  3. LOL..I remember the first few times I had a stuck/sliming episode. I was so happy because I knew the band was starting to work. Oh, I was miserable for a few minutes and it did slow me down and made me rethink how I eat but I knew my real journey was beginning  Distraction is my enemy. Watching TV and eating, or gobbling food down too quickly or too big because I'm too hungry or the smell of the food is overwhelming is how I get stuck a lot. You should post your weight loss so far? Create a weight loss ticker so we know more about you? tmf
  4. "I can't seem to keep anything down" Do you mean you're barfing food or slime or what? Getting stuck is not so much about keeping food down, stuck means your pouch or esophogus has too much food and is struggling to massage it through the stoma. It can come from eating too quickly, eating while distracted, not chewing enough, eating very dry meats and so on. Stuck episodes typically last for 30-60 minutes and for newbies it's very common. It takes so long to learn how to eat with the band. I've pretty much figured it out but it's not uncommon for me to still get stuck a couple times a week. So many things affect your stomach where the band is. It's simply a muscle and can tighten up due to swelling from sodium, TOM, allergies, medications and stuck episodes can cause enough trauma to create quite a bit of swelling. One last comment. I was in the green zone and I knew it. But I kept getting stuck too much. I had some Fluid removed and then could eat more than I should. I now know I just did not know how to eat with the band. tmf

    Struggling with weight loss

You should fill in your profile so we know more about you? It's difficult to advise with so little to work with? But I agree with Dylan, a nutritionist is worth the dough for anyone at any stage. tmf

having trouble staying away from chocolate

It's easier to not buy it than it is to avoid it once it's in your pantry or candy dish. Spoken from experience I do allow myself 2 hershey dark choc bliss cubes every night. It satisfies my chocolate craving, and some idiot nutritionist said it's good for me? Go figger
  7. I cheated a few times and had some tomato Soup. BTW-You do not want to vomit at this stage or any stage with the band or you could have a band slip.

    Drank to much and vomited

Seems like my tolerance for alchohol has diminished since being banded. I had a couple of glasses of wine a few weeks ago and did not eat much. That old feeling of the room spinning and saliva buildup in my mouth came back. I was lucky, no barfing. Hope you're alright and learn your lesson. I think I've learned mine. But, you know, this alcohol thing can rear it's ugly head out of nowhere so being a person in a glass house, I won't throw stones your way

    Drug of choice- food

What kind of food is your addiction? Simple carbs? Carbs? Fried foods? Fast foods. tmf

    New to journey

There are some new soft drinks with only 10 calories that do not have that sweetener aftertaste. Crystal light is OK by me and it has no carbonation. I don't know what your pre-op diet is supposed to be so it's hard to offer snack food choices? Are you on only liquids, low carb, atkins?
  11. It's called Bandster Hell. It took me 4 fills and 4 months to say goodbye to BH. Hope your journey beyond BH is much quicker? tmf

One of my fav alltime quotes from a year ago was from Pinkdahlia: "I'm so stinkin' thrilled with my weight loss i dont even care about what i cant eat!" Pink Dahlia I resemble this quote, no, I am this quote. tmf

"but I am worried about the cravings I'll have for them and feel very sad thinking that I can't even splurge on them sometimes" Don't know where you heard this but it's not true? You can eat anything you want. The band will help you to feel satisfied much quicker so you don't feel like you need to eat two plates of your favs. The band does not stop you from eating anything and won't stop you from eating a lot of anything. It only allows your mind to feel like it's no longer necessary to overeat everything. I still have a few slices of pizza every now and then. I still eat small quantities of lasagna. I still eat an occassional burger with a few fries. They don't taste as good as they once did so I'm craving and eating so much less of these unhealthy foods now. tmf

    Old band new fill STUCK

First, what did you eat to get stuck? Most stuck episodes last about 30-60 minutes and the food passes. But it depends on what you're stuck on? How can you be in so much pain and still hungry?

    Going to the Jim

I saw the topic headline and thought, oh great, another bad speller! Good one!
  17. Simple carbs like malt o meal won't stick with you like a Protein shake, egg drop Soup or refried Beans. Processed foods like malt o meal metabolize quickly and can cause insulin spikes which will make you even hungrier. It's like eating liquid bread. Tasty I know, but not a real good hunger deflater. Can you have lentil or black bean soup? Lots of Fiber and should stick around a little longer?

    Don't understand.

If you've tried every diet known and failed, if you've tried every exercise routine guaranteed to make you look like a fitness model and failed, if you refuse to go on living a much shorter life, then WLS is and was the only answer for me and I never doubted or questioned my decision. I have children in their 20's and 40's. I have 6 grandkids. I want to see all of them grow into productive citizens and if I die young that won't happen. I refused to spend the rest of my life in a fat painridden body. I knew that WLS was the only way I could achieve my goal of living a more active and longer life. If you have doubts going into this, maybe you're not ready? But think about the life you lead now vs. the life you could be living, and make a commitment. If you can't commit to making major changes in your eating behavior you will not succeed. Almost guaranteed! There is so much truth in the power of positive thinking and commiting yourself 100% to something so important in(the rest) your life. Sorry to go on so long on my soapbox, but you've gotta believe you can do this or you'll find reasons why it didn't work for you.jmo tmf
  22. It has nothing to do with the form you ingest. Nsaids cause the blood to thin and there is a lot of blood in the lining of your stomach. The area where the band is placed can develop ulcers which then lead to a slip. This pressure from the band can cause an irritation and the extra thin blood then comes to the surface causing an ulcer. It's similar to not taking aspirin, ibuprofen before surgery. It can cause excessive bleeding since the blood is thinner and does not coagulate as well. I still take ibuprofen maybe once a week when the joints swell from over excercising but I don't take it daily as I did before band. Don't tell my doc

    first time for everyone :-/

Productive Burp(PB) means you belch up some of the food that has accumulated in your pouch or esophogus. Slime or sliming is flem and saliva that is produced by your body to aid stuck foods to pass through and into your stomach. Stuck episodes can create a lot of slime that we spit out.

    Need to vent!

I'm 1 1/2 years out. I too was starving the first 4 months. My 4th fill after 4 months finally got me to where I was feeling satisfied longer. I bitched and moaned too. On this forum! It's called Bandster Hell for a reason. tmf
