26 Pounds Gone in Six Months
2muchfun replied to Lap_Band_Evelyn's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
What part of town are you in? There's a couple of bariatricpal support groups you can attend and get some support and/or advice. The group I meet with is in Broomfield and we meet on the 6th of October if you're interested? tmf -
Don't know what type of device you post from but on a PC you can see that only 4 people follow this thread including you and me. To get more eyes on your issue you should start your own thread/topic where hundreds of eyes will see.

This is a process and the learning curve on how to eat slower and chew more can be a long one. Tweaking your band is a must in my opinion. Self discipline to eat slower and chewing food to a mush consistency is how almost every successful Bandster has succeeded. A visit with the nut is also very healthy for you if you have issues of any kind. I highly recommend staying the course with fills and appointments and being brutally honest with doctor and nut. tmf

Mine was a real yawner. Just a little pinch feeling and it was over. No restriction from first 2 fills.

It can happen at every meal if you're too tight or you eat too fast or don't chew enough. It took me 10 months to finally get the hang of eating slow and chewing more. I thought I had conquered the routine but I was wrong. Even after the 10 months I've continued to get better at chewing more and eating slower. But, I still get stuck a few times a week. It's not as bad now though. I've developed this 6th sense and can feel when food is backing up into my esophagus and I stop eating. Food normally passes through in 5-10 mins. If you're stuck or have food backed up into your esophagus, Water will not pass through. Water will only expand your esophagus and that can be very painful. I too had one episode like yours. But just once. If you're having these kinds of episodes, you're eating too fast causing food to impact inside your esophagus. This can cause food up to an hour or more to pass. Be very careful you don't stretch/dilate your esophagus. jmo tmf

26 Pounds Gone in Six Months
2muchfun replied to Lap_Band_Evelyn's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I think I had only lost about 30 lbs after 6 months so sounds good to me. You don't say anything about fills, green zone, what you eat or exercise? If your band isn't adjusted properly you'll probably eat more than you should? Or, if it's too tight, you'll eat slider foods which can be higher in calories? Post more information and maybe we can help you out? -
Rosie O’Donnell Makes Hurtful Comments About the Lap-Band on “The View”
2muchfun replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
Yeah, I've seen those same lame arguments before. One study from the infancy of the band and two op-eds. How about this one jessi? I'll take this study of 161,000 WLS patients over your silly little study of 82 patients from 20 years ago. You really need to study harder and double check your "Facts" before you publish such ignorant comments. http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/291785-new-jama-surgery-study-shows-weight-loss-surgery-is-getting-safer-and-more-effective/?p=3289664 -
Post op 1 wk problems
2muchfun replied to toveylapgal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You don't say where the pain is but sounds like gas. Your body cavity is filled with gas and can be very painful for a few weeks post op. Mostly in the left shoulder area but can be most anywhere in your torso. Most of us had some experience with gas. -
Starting 5:2 and no scale this week

I'm traveling today so the stress of flying might play games with my head. But so far I'm planning on my Protein shake either at noonish or when I land at 3 pm? It'll be interesting to see how disciplined I can be now that fasting is a habit. tmf -
One year -- then and now

Your post makes me think about my wife and how supportive she's been. Where would I be without that support? I envy and deeply respect you for being able to do this mostly on your own. I don't think I would have been as successful as I am if I had your scenario. Well done and HIGH FIVEs ^5 ^5 ^5 ^5 tmf -
Nah, you're fine. No carbs in cheese and meat so no sweat and you should be able to carry on with your cleansing.

Would love a little encouragement

25 lbs is actually quite good. If you compare yourself to other surgeries like the sleeve you can expect the weight loss to be slower. That's just how the band works. It's not a restrictive tool like the sleeve. It can only help you feel less hungry during meals or for hours after meals. And you don't mention anything about fills, if you exercise, satiety or restriction? Your band won't give you the satiety needed to lose consistently unless it's adjusted properly? And yes, exercise can play a huge part in how quickly you lose. tmf -

If you have a PC please fill in your profile so we know more about your beginning weight, height, etc? -
They're just numbers. As long as they keep going down why worry? If your Doctor's office scale is 5 lbs less, just deduct 5 lbs from your scale?

I noticed immediately how easy it was for me to get stuck and/or slime. Made me slow down, chew more and eat slower. At fill #3 I started to feel less hungry as my meal progressed. I was able to stop eating sooner and with less food. I was also able to go longer between meals without hunger. But this is a learning process and it doesn't stop during the first few months or first year. I'm still learning how to eat slower, pay attention to what I'm doing while I eat and I'm chewing my food even more now. For many of us there's no light bulb that flashes on and suddenly we're home free. A lifetime of abusing food won't go away in just a few months.

No leg cramps but that could be an indication you need more fluids.

I see so many posts here like yours. No one can monitor what goes on in your mouth but it's my belief that many banders never learn how to eat very slow, chew food to a Soup like consistency and eat very small bites. Eating too fast is a curse we all struggle with. Revising to a different WLS is always a possibility with the band . Fortunately there are some new WLS techniques on the horizon. Here's one that is very promising: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9CCrfa7zCqs Of course, you can go back to your surgeon and nutritionist and start over again. You should already know how this is done? Eat healthy foods, don't eat processed foods, eat Protein first. This would be my recommendation. I know the band works if you follow the rules and eat healthy, non processed foods and your band is adjusted properly. You can revise to any surgery you want but if you don't eat healthy foods or follow the rules, no WLS will work. tmf

I went to a dinner at some friends house and they had chips and nuts and bruschetta. The processed carbs just went down like Water and I couldn't get enough. That's why I don't have them in my house. Sometimes we'll entertain and I feel like I have to buy junk and I end up begging everyone to take the crap out of my house, If they don't, I cave the next day, most of the time.

I lost 12 lbs the first two weeks and then nothing for the next 3.5 months. Took 3 fills before I felt some satiety. Check your clothes fit? You could be losing fat but replacing it with muscle and firming up at the same time. Use this entire forum as your buddy.

Skinnier and cuter. Can't beat that.
-
It can take several fills before you feel any satiety. Took me 3 fills to feel some satiety and 6 fills to finally reach the green zone. Cold foods like ice or iced shakes stay in your band a short period of time and the extra exposure can give you a stomach freeze easier than before band.

Slipped and Sliding Out of Control
2muchfun replied to MiltonMommy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Go back to the beginning of this topic. What you're experiencing is normal and most of us went through Bandster hell. It won't get better till you get enough fills to give you satiety or restriction to avoid hunger. Till then, it's just another diet. -
It's dangerous to be too tight. Make sure you're eating slowly, taking small bites and chewing? Keep in touch.
