New Forum Is (Not) So Sad!

OK, here's a bonus. I clicked on the "Patients" tab at the top of this page and then searched for patients of my surgeon and found 66 others who used my surgeon. Most are very old forum members but it's interesting to track(stalk ) other forum members who I have something in common with. tmf
  2. Just discovered the patients tab at the top of this page and saw all the Frank Chae patients. How you doing? I'm banded and will be 2 years out as of Thanksgiving day. We're sort of neighbors. Long drive aint it?

    Any other September 2013 bandsters?

You probably won't feel satisfied for 4 hours all the time till you get enough fills to give you that level of satiety. And even then it's normal to feel hungry if you eat slider foods in place of protein first. You said earlier, you're 7 weeks out but not eating all foods? Why are you not eating regular food? And it took many months of being banded for most of us to discern the difference between true hunger and cravings.

Protein Intake And Bs From Surgeon.

I spent about 2 decades on and off the atkins low carb/high Protein diets and only experienced flu like symptoms about 4-6 weeks after the new year started(Started a new hard core diet every year), or I was exposed to the illness elsewhere. Could be his body shutting down and demanding carbs and natural Vitamin C(via fruit).

    1St Fill 11/20/2013

Fills do not make you lose weight. Fills only squeeze the stomach making the stoma smaller which in turn causes food to stay in your pouch a little longer which then stimulates the vagus nerve. Exercise and consuming fewer calories than you burn is what will cause you to lose weight. BTW-1 lb in 5 days is exactly what the Drs recommend will happen for most of us. Your weight loss should be 4-8 lbs per month so 1 lb in 5 days equals 6 lbs per month. Good luck and keep getting fills to find satiety.

    Thankful For You!

I was banded on 11/28/11. I recall my first 30 days through the holidays and fortunately I had the post surgery instructions to keep me in line. Then Holidays 2012 came along and I gained about 6 lbs but right after the holidays it came off. I think it was mostly just some Holiday fluids clinging on. But, this wonderful band of mine reminds me to eat healthy so it's been the best thing I've done for myself in decades. I just need to steer clear of those snickerdoodling friends and neighbors who secretly want to sabotage my journey   Congrats and Happy Holidays!
  8. Any symptoms before banding? I think many of us have similar concerns since WLS is not what mother nature intended but what can you do? Do you blame the band, the doctor, life? What was your BMI pre surgery?
  9. Did he remove all the fluid from the band and did it make any diff?
  10. I weigh twice a day. Morn and night. If I gain weight I know what food is the culprit or what trend is causing the scale to show a lower number!
  11. Wow, we're in tune tonight?
  12. Allow me to change the subject somewhat and ask a question of the sleeve folks? Plication? It appears that plication is similar to the sleeve in that it reduces the size of the stomach, however, without the removal of 80% of the stomach. Did anyone consider plication? And I only ask because of my ignorance of both procedures. I know how the surgeries are performed thanks to youtube but it seems like they're somewhat similar? Wrong? The band forum has a few bands with plication and seems like these folks need fewer fills or no fills and feel satiety easier than just the bandsters. I admit I feel a little envy at times! tmf
  13. Usually a revision is due to a slip, erosion, prolapse, dilation. All are dangerous to one's health so a revision or removal is usually a necessity in these cases.

    Stuck Today.....first Time

Oddly, eggs are quite often the first thing we all suffer with. You should be fine. You'll probably have a little swelling for 24 hours but sounds like you only need a small fill?
  16. You're going to find as time goes by, that learning how to eat slowly, take small small bites and chew to a mush, will be the most difficult issue to conquer. We're all so programmed to shovel huge bites of food in our mouths and quickly swallow so we can shove another pile of food in our pieholes is one of the major reasons why some fail with the band. They just can't make that adjustment. Distracted eating is also a problem. Like watching TV while eating. You become distracted by the entertainment and before you know it you've got 3 bites of food in your mouth and about to swallow it all and experience a stuck episode. tmf

    Dinner And Drinks ?

Here's just one opinion: This guy is one of THE leading lapband surgeons on the planet. Doesn't mean you should follow his advice but this is his protocol.
  18. Small fills the size of .1 CC can make you too tight. My doctor snuck up on the green zone with .25 fills till I found the zone. My recommend is call the doc and ask to have maybe .25-.5 CC removed and take it real easy till you find satiety for 4 hours. Leaving the band too tight for too long can damage so many things including your future success with the band. tmf

    Dinner And Drinks ?

You may be stirring a hornets nest with this post This is my take. You should follow your doctors orders. But, I spoke to my doctor and his first 30 days post surgery instructions were no alcohol or solids. A few months out he said non carbonated drinks were OK but be aware they're high in carbs/calories. Just do it in moderation he said. My nut echoed his sentiment. He also said that he would prefer we not eat or drink 30 before and after but said some of his patients still drink with meals and are still successful. Dr. O'Brien in Australia said there is no problem drinking and eating as long as the patient waits 1 minute between bites to sip some water/wine? So, my opinion is it's fine once in a while. I do still drink a beer every now and then and maybe a glass of wine too. tmf

    Anyone getting banded in Nov?

    Love the attitude! tmf
  21. If there was a problem you would know already. The reason you shouldn't eat solids so early after surgery is that you may have swelling from the surgery and sutures are in place to hold the band as it is. Getting food stuck so soon after surgery could cause those sutures to rip away. But you'd know it by now so no harm no foul. tmf

    Any other September 2013 bandsters?

Just tell them you found a great new diet and it's real simple. I just eat less. True aint it? When I'm in my weight losing frame of mind I would eat a one egg(egg beater) omelette with a dash of cheese and some turkey sausage. I've always had a mid morn snack and it's usually an apple. Lunch, deli turkey or tuna, or leftover salmon or if I'm in a hurry I'll heat up a progresso soup of some kind. They're all low calorie but don't afford a lot of satiety. Mid morning snack usually a Kirkland 1.25 bag of jerky Dinner, is usually salmon with salad or salmon on brown rice with some veggies or stir fry chicken with broccoli and/or veggies. tmf
