Why Did You Choose The Lap Band Vs. Gastric Bypass (Rny)
2muchfun replied to Boobear7's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was a low BMI patient. My doctor asked similar questions and suggested the band for me. I was leaning that way so it was an easy choice for me. I had settled in at 230 lbs for about 8 years. I'd vacillate between 198-235 depending on winter and summer. I wasn't a binge eater, I wasn't a big sweets consumer, I just averaged eating about 500 calories too much every day. The band seemed like the logical choice for me and I'm very happy. Today is my 2 year bandiversary btw. tmf -
My quick story: I lost 12 lbs the first 2 weeks and then 0 lbs the next 3.5 months. I was in Bandster hell for about 3 months. I was pissed off the first couple of months that my doctor and nutritionist never mentioned this phase. I should have been more diligent in reading this forum and I would have known better. But, I accepted the fact it may take several fills before I started to feel satiety for hours. 4 months out I had a consult with my nutritionist and my 3rd fill. I immediately started to lose weight and my hunger level dropped dramatically. Just keep getting fills and eat your Protein. You'll get there. Happy Thanksgiving and today is my 2 year Bandiversary tmf

Bands that are too tight can cause patients to eat around the band with slider foods. Or, too tight can cause patients to dilate their pouch or esophagus when food won't pass through the band in less than a minute. Slips can occur too. Slip symptoms are not being able to eat or spitting up food trapped in the pouch.

I had insurance via HCA 2 years ago and locally WLS was not covered. Every state and insurer will have different coverages. You should go to your UHC site and look up bariatrics to find out if WLS is covered?

Allergan bands hold 10 for the small version and 14 for the large version. You may also have a Realize band and I'm not sure what they hold.

Anyone getting banded in Nov?
2muchfun replied to swankybangles's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You may be experiencing pain from swelling around the band or it could be from the tube down your throat(intubation) to help you get enough oxygen during surgery. -
Could you please try to color inside the lines this time and please don't eat the green crayons.

Naw! He won't yell if he's a professional. Just be honest with the doc about your eating habits and the struggles you're experiencing. -
Did he say it might be a slip, dilation, GERD? Any ideas?

Food Ideas For Beginners
2muchfun replied to Yasminesz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I ate a lot of egg drop Soup. It's rich and has a lot of Protein so it's filling. Also, refried Beans with little cheese. I make my own but canned is good too. oatmeal, Soups with lentils or soft veggies, If you start your own topic you should get a lot of response. It's always been a popular topic. Or go to the band forums section and there's a thread already there for foods we eat. -
Food Ideas For Beginners

Rice is ok for me but I've read so many people who get stuck on rice. It seems to gum up the stoma. -
I didn't explain well. If I go back and try to edit a post with a quote in it, the quote may disappear or move in the comment board.

I've had employers who have programs within their servers that block sites like BP. Especially banks or healthcare companies.

Never give up. I went through 3 different insurance companies before I finally got approved. Took about 1 1/2 years. I was covered under my wife's policy and the first policy covered it but wanted a 6 month nutrition program. That took me beyond Dec 31st 2010 and the employer dropped that policy completely. Her new policy covered it but then she left that employer in March of 2011 for another job. Fortunately the new job covered the surgery but needed a 6 month nutrition counseling again. Sucks don't it?

Alex, OK here's another issue but you're probably aware of it. When we quote someone the original quote gets erased or eliminated.

Yeah he is.Just eliminate California as your state and leave it blank. He's got 49 patients here Boo, my doctor isn't listed.

Your issue is a concern many, if not all of us, shelter in a secret part of our minds. tmf -

What phase do you want to cover? Post surgery? Mushies? Solids? 30 days post op? If you're cleared for solids we all eat whatever we want. The band can tolerate most all foods but as your band is tightened with fills you may find some foods like breads, dry chicken, red meat, rice etc are hard to tolerate? Not always and not every Bandster has problems with foods. I don't have problems but my band is not real tight either. Otherwise, it's a trial and error for most of us? Most of us just stick to healthy foods and stay away from slider foods like ice cream, Cookies, pizza, lasagna. But those foods are still OK if you count them towards your daily calorie intake. Good Luck. -
Did you like your consult? Did the staff make you feel important? Hope so?

If you go to the top of this page, click on the "Patiens" tab. Click on surgeons and find Hololver. Click on search patients again. There are quite a few but not many recent patients so not many follow the forum.

Getting A Fill...finally!
2muchfun replied to ErinMarie's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
I'm right there with ya, except I didn't just pop out a kid. I'm trying to eat healthy as much as possible and since I know I can't succeed over the Holidays I'll wait till January 1st to buckle down and work off this last 25 lbs. -
I'll be 2 years out on Thanksgiving day. I lost 50 but gained about 15 back now. I'm holding my own but it'll be an uphill battle between now and New Years. I guess I'm not real worried about this as I know what I need to do but I'm not going to tackle this till all the temptations are out of sight. Xmas is just too difficult a time for me to take on. Hope you're eating healthy?

Did you check with your doc? This isn't something I've ever seen on the forum before so maybe that's why no response?

What state? Billings?? Did you use the search button at the top of this page?
