Burning/pulling/stinging pain
BariBlonde replied to Shanna NYC's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I am almost a year post op, but this too happened to me and it was the worst pain I’ve ever experienced. I was fortunate enough to only experience it on my right side, but doctor did state that some will suffer with it on both sides. I’m sorry that you’re one of the ones to experience that. Hang in there! Hopefully it passes soon. -
This is a tough time of the year for most of us where food is concerned, and it took strength to throw away the sweets. Praise yourself for doing that, and remember...it's all about progress. No one is looking for perfection. Merry Christmas!

Oh, wow - I had no idea this was a common complaint! I purchased a pillow months ago, but gosh it still hurts! Sometimes I find the pillow helps, sometimes I feel as though it doesn't.

Gastric Bypass as an Outpatient
BariBlonde replied to FireWife81's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi - I stayed overnight night and was released the following afternoon. A friend of mine had RNY a few weeks ago and was released the same day. I believe her surgery was early in the morning, and she was released late afternoon/early evening. My overnight bag included the following: phone, charger, air pods, lip balm, face towelettes, feminine wipes, and deodorant for after surgery. Hope this helps and wishing you well! -
Length of time on PPI or other antiacid
BariBlonde replied to Tomo's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi, I'm almost 4 months post op, and I was prescribed Pantoprazole for 90 days post RNY. I was told I wouldn't need it after 3 months...and as of this time I haven't. I took OTC meds for reflux for many years prior to RNY, and I'm grateful the need for these meds seems to be a thing of the past. However, I do keep TUMS on hand just in case. -
Hi Nicole! I was told 3 months due to caffeine causing dehydration and the acidity of the coffee bean causing issues while healing. However, it definitely varies per program. The lack of caffeine doesn't necessarily bother me...I just want my coffee for the taste alone. I'd be lying if I said I haven't contemplated giving it a try Looking forward to seeing what others have to say. I'll be 4 weeks post op tomorrow and two months seems like forever right now.

May Surgery Buddies

Hi all - I hope everyone is doing well. I had my post op follow up with my surgeon this morning. He actually cleared me to begin my pureed diet today at 11 days post op plus all vitamins/supplements. That little bit of egg with cheese and salsa was quite possibly the best egg I've ever had... and I'm not even fond of eggs. I've tolerated my shakes well over the past few weeks, but I have to admit I've become tired of them over the past few days. Obviously I'll still need them, but at least I have a little variety. Now to figure out the best way to manage this pureed diet. Eating 6 small meals a day is such a foreign concept to me. Anyone care to share what you're doing for your pureed diet? -
I’ve been doing really well… until last night. My right side is suddenly so painful, but only when standing and walking. It’s so bad that I don’t know if I can even manage to shower tonight. I have this persistent heaviness and tugging sensation, and while I understand why, it’s quite painful. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

Exactly 1 week post-op
BariBlonde replied to BariBlonde's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yay!!!! So happy to hear yours has eased up! That is amazing. I thought maybe I was just a tad better today, but after my forcing myself to stand for a short bit today, it would appear I’ve pissed off my stomach 😉 Good luck on your visit tomorrow! I know you must be excited!! -

How are you gals doing? I’m now on day 3 of this pain with no end in sight. I’m becoming increasingly fearful that I may need help some form of help getting to my 1st follow up appointment on Tuesday. Ugh. @redhead_che please tell me your pain has subsided 🤞🏻 -
Coping with grief after WLS
BariBlonde replied to Starwarsandcupcakes's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Please accept my condolences on the loss of your father. I know it’s a difficult path. You are so kind to to post here in an attempt to help others who are grieving. Grief is exactly I came to need WLS. I used food as a means to shove the grief as far down inside of me as I could, and I did it for many, many years. Wishing you much healing and peace with each day. Sending you big hugs. -

I’m so sorry you’ve experienced this too! It’s truly awful! Today is day 3 and I’m sad to say no relief in sight. I cannot even walk without starting to sweat and borderline cry. And I have a high pain tolerance - several of my doctors have even referred to me as stoic during a few minor in-office procedures. In any event, I’m just trying to march in place to get some movement in. It sounds as though you’re “on the other side” of this nightmare and I’m genuinely happy for you. xx -

My nurse more or less told me the same this morning. It is quite honestly the worst pain I’ve ever felt! I broke down crying in the shower tonight and for the first time in my adult life, I had to have someone bathe me. Beyond grateful for my other half always, but especially right now. It’s reassuring to know someone else is experiencing the same thing, but I also hate that you’re experiencing the same thing and suffering along with me. Sending big hugs right back to you! Please keep me posted on how you’re doing. xx -
Just curious if anyone else has experienced this? I'm not necessarily upset about the lack of weight loss, but rather concerned since I'm under 450 calories per day and drinking my 64oz water for the most part. It just seems odd to me.

May Surgery Buddies

I wish I had thought of that although our bed is rather high and I'm rather short. Given my currently level of pain/soreness when standing/sitting, I cannot even get on the bed without a step stool. I foolishly attempted it last night and then quickly realized BAD IDEA. Back to my recliner I went cursing under my breath the whole way Glad to know I have a surgery buddy. I look forward to following you on your wls journey! -

Thank you. That makes perfect sense. -
Oh wow! Kudos to your therapist! As a big girl and art lover, this really resonates with me. I cannot thank you enough for sharing this.

CIGNA approved me for RNY Surgery
BariBlonde replied to Mariann812's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Great news! Wishing you much success on your journey. Oddly enough, my endoscopy didn't show any hernias so imagine the surprise when my surgeon found a large hiatal hernia in my chest during last Friday's RNY ;) I look forward to following you on your wls journey. -
Same here. I have to constantly remind myself to sip slowly or I’ll drink as I’m accustomed.

I'm so sorry this happened to you. People can be so very cruel. I remember one day when I was exiting a department store (I was in my 20s and only weighed about 160 at the time) when two teens drove by and yelled "I hate B.... with fat legs." I can still feel the shame and embarrassment today that I felt in that moment. I know it's far easier said than done, but try to put their cruelty aside and focus on getting healthy. Besides, I truly believe that those who seek to hurt others are quite miserable in their own life.

Currently 4 days post op. I immediately began taking a stool softener once home from the hospital. I took one with each shake and had 2 BMs on day 2 post op and another one today on day 4. I'm also adding Benefiber to my morning water. I'm actually surprised I didn't have issues with constipation because historically I do. My gastro had me on Miralax daily before surgery which I plan to resume at the two week post op point unless I need it sooner.

May Surgery Buddies
BariBlonde replied to The Traveler's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello everyone. I had RNY on May 6th, and I’m currently recovering. I cannot even begin to tell you just how much I’m looking forward to being able to sleep in my bed again. How is everyone else doing?
