Fluid in band before first fill?
MABurt replied to kaytiebugs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The surgeon sometimes puts saline in the band during surgery. -
Thanks so much for the info, I pray he doesn't have to postpone but I think if I can do it, he can too. Thanks for the laughs I have see you post over the last few weeks.

He has been on the protein drinks and salad or steamed veg. for 2 weeks. I hope it works because he has been pretty miserable the last couple of days and if he has to go for another 2 or 3 weeks it will be brutal.

Thanks for the info, my husband is schedule for his procedure on Tuesday and the dr has already told them that they have not done it on a man his size and that he might have to pull out and wait a few weeks and let the liver shrink some more. I hope this doesn't happen.

Restlessmonkey what diet did you have to stick too after they found the fatty liver?

What did you eat?

I had my procedure on July 31st and my first fill on Sept 17th. I am 4 days into my first fill of 4cc in a 10cc band. I did liquids for 24 hrs and mushies for 24 hrs. The first night of liquids I had a discomfort/pain in my left ribcage about an hour after consuming. The next day I had oatmeal for breakfast without any problems. For lunch I had broiled fish and could only take in about 4 small bites when the pain came again. It lasted for about an hour and even after I started drinking water. I saw the tip about drinking warm liquids prior to eating and I tried it and it has been working for the last 2 days. I am drinking hot tea prior to each meal and have not had any pain or discomfort. I suppose I have not eat enough to fill full. I eat 3 meals each day, no snacking between. I'm probably eating about a fourth of what I was eating prior to pre-op liquids. I haven't had any nausea or vomiting due to overeating. Questions: 1. Should I be having the feeling of full by now? 2. Am I manipulating the band by drinking the warm liquids? Causing harm? 3. Is it possible that I did not allow enough time for the oatmeal to clear my pouch and therefore was full? 4. Should I be taking in only 1/2 cup of food at this point or is that later after a few fills? 5. Was my pouch just irritated for a couple of days after fill? 6. Should I have some fill taken out? 7. Am I confused or overreacting?:girl_hug:

No, I wasn't told just a half cup but I have heard others say that would be about all I could eat.

Hi, I'm MABurt fom Valley Mills, Texas, I had my procedure on July 31 and my first fill on 9/17 at S & W. I am confused and scared about this journey also.

I order a glass of ice with my meal instead of something to drink sucking on an ice cube not only helps with the dryness and cooling down but helps in slowing down the eating and prolongs the meal.

I have found that if you include seedless grapes in your meal they will supply enough moister to take care of the dry foods.

I was banded on July 31 and will have my first fill on Sept 18th. For the last two weeks I have been eating like there is no tomorrow. I evidently do not have any restriction because I am eating just like I did before I was banded. Is this normal? I did good on the pre and post surgery diets but since I don't have any pain or restriction it's like I can't get enough to eat. I never feel full. Does anyone have any suggestions, I'm scared that something is not right. Will this stop when I get my first fill?

Who else is on their post liquid diet and STARVING!?!?!?

Hang in there the time will pass fast. Remember though that with thick liquids or what I call full liquids you can have light yogurt creamy soups, cream of wheat or Malt a Meal. When I went through this stage I did not worry about how much fat or sugar these things had in them. You actually have enough to deal with at this time without worrying about all of the other details. I lost 12 lbs during the 15 days of liquids and soft food. Eat some malt a meal right before bed and you should be fine. Good luck. Remember we are from Texas and we can do anything we put our minds too. -
That's wonderful. When is your procedure going to be done? I am 2 weeks in and feel great. My confidence has gone up so much. I don't get my 1st fill until the 17th of next month which is a bummer but I am just being very careful about what I eat. I am so excited about the future and what I know that me and my little new bandy can accomplish. I wish you well and know everything will go well. Good luck......

Congrats, I know what it's like to wait on your insurance to make this decision. I only had to wait a couple of weeks after insurance approval to have my banding. I'm two weeks in and feel great. The first few days were tough but got better quickly. Hang in there and be patient it will come and will be great.

I have finally done it. I was banded yesterday in Temple Texas after a very long wait. I have 100 lbs to lose and can hardly wait to get started. I would love to talk with others about their experience and what I can expect in the weeks and months to come. I feel great except for the soreness in my midsection and I am already looking forward to week 2 food choices. Chicken broth and hot tea just are not very satisfying,:cursing:
