Hi there I have just taken the first step of going to my GP and being referred for Lapband surgery. My GP did not know much about it to be honest and he asked me who I wanted to go to for this surgery?!? I told him I had no idea, so he is researching this for me. Is there anyone here who has had this done in Scotland? I live in Troon, Ayrshire and I think I will have to go to Glasgow. I am paying for this myself. Will I have long to wait to see a consultant? I have so many questions and glad I found this web site and I am alo terrified at the thought of having this done but relieved at the same time!! Any replies would be appreciated. Arran

Hi there I am having more or less the same problems as you are and I agree, it's not nice:( I was banded Sept 08 and had no problems till I had my first fill 4.5 mls. I felt the band get tighter and tighter until I had an e,ergency aspiration carried out last week, surgeon said he took it all out but there was only 3mls in syringe! I had about a week of relief but feel it's now getting tighter and tighter again. I am finding it difficult to get liquids down and the burping has started agin, big time. I am giving it another week and if things have not settled down, I will be back on the phone asking to see surgeon again. I can't live my life like this either. I'm not sure if it has slipped, I think the next step will be an endoscopy to see if all is ( or not) well -
Hi there Banded last Sept and have lost 5stones. I feel great most of the time and have only had one fill. I have had, on 2 occassions now episodes of ' projectile' vomitting. The first time I was told I had caught the norovirus and it lasted 3days, so I guess that was what it was. A few days ago I ate some chunky coleslaw along with dinner, prob too quick and didn't chew it enough. I think it stuck and then spent the nxt 2 days in agony, pb'ing and slime until it finally ended with a huge projectile normal vomit( about half a basin full) sorry for the graphics! This seemd to clear everything and I felt fine afterwards. Has this happened to anyone else?? I mentioned to my surgeon that I had had the vomitting virus and he didn't seem at all concerned. Arran

Hi there Thanks for the replies  My surgery is at Ross Hall in Glasgow. I felt the Bariatric Clinic had a very positive 'ethos' about it and I felt comfortable. The team I have met so far...Bariatric nurse specialist, Dietician and my Surgeon answered all my questions and added lots more information that I didn't know. 6th Sept...gosh not long for you to go now..how are u feeling?? Arran x -
Hi there I am waiting for my appt letter to go and see my consultant (to see if I can be banded). I am in my 40's and would love a band buddy, just some one to talk to about my hopes/fears etc! I live in West Scotland and would like David Galloway to do my op. If anyone would like to chat to me about their experiences and give me some moral support along the way I would really appreciate it and I'll send my email addy! I am glad I found this board, especially the UK section an I am reading through just about everything I can  There are some huge success stories out there:thumbup: Arran x

Hi there I have a hernia ( sliding) which causes me no probs at all. Would this be a contra indication for being banded? If so, can anyone tell me why? Has anyone had a hernia pre operation? Thanks Arran

Hi there! Well done on a successful operation and glad you are feeling Ok and best of all have lost weight already!!!!!!!! I am just at the very beg of this journey...been to see my GP who is referring me( easy when u say you are self funding eh?) had some routine blood tests done via my GP just to check my thyroid and liver and a whole bunch of other stuff which I can't remember. If everything is OK she will refer me. I am really really looking for a buddy to go through this with! My husband is supportive but apprehensive for me( he thinks, like so many other people that this not a 'necessary op' in his opinion and scared of me going through this) I have not told the rest of my family as I don't want them to worry. if you are interested in sharing this journey with someone, I'm your girl! Hope you are still feeling OK and taking it easy! Arran x
