Hi all, I had my VSG surgery in April. I started off at 410lbs and am currently 300.9. I just weighed in today, last week I was 296.3lbs. But I will say that for this last week it was my husbands birthday and I didn’t go to the gym so I wasn’t exercising or eating well. So I expected some weight gain. But I’m really worried about the way I gain weight back so quickly. Just one week off and I gained 4.6 lbs back. Is this normal? And will I have to deal with this the rest of my life? I’m already slightly disappointed because in the beginning I was losing so well but for this past few months I can barely lose 5lbs a month if that! I know weight loss slows over time and that I’m literally a month and a few weeks away from making my year…but somehow I feel like I’m not doing something right and should have lost way more weight by now. And that my weight gain comes back so quickly! I go back to the doctor on April 19th…my goal weight for then is 280lbs. I’m praying I can make that, if I don’t I feel like my doctor will be disappointed. Better yet I feel like I’ll be disappointed in myself.. I just hope it’s enough.

Thank you for this advice! It makes me feel a lot better. And I’m not sure if I ate that many extra calories. It seems a bit hard to believe considering my stomach still is not normal size yet. But it was my husbands birthday week so I did enjoy myself… nonetheless I’m back on track this week with going to they gym 4 days a week and watching what I eat. side note: I also have PCOS which is one of the main reasons I got the surgery. If you don’t know what that is long story short it’s a form of insulin resistance. Basically makes it hard to lose and easy to gain. So maybe that’s part of why I gained so quickly?? I’m not sure just guessing. It seems to be under control now that I’ve lost so much weight. But maybe that’s just what I think and it’s not under control after all. but despite all of this I’ll try to stay positive and do my best! An exciting thing is after April me and the husband will be trying for kids so that’s a something that keeps me motivated! Haven’t been successful in the past so I’m hoping this time around is different.

VSG surgery in hopes to cure PCOS and have children!
Cat0430 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hello all, I am new to this forum but I think it is great to have something like this where we can communicate and get advice from one another! I had my VSG surgery on April 4th, 2022. So that means as of today I am 16 days post op. So far things are going alright. I am a little worried about my 2 incisions on my left side since the liquid bandage has come off and they are still open. They crust over, but any movement or showering makes them open back up. I think they are slowly healing(one of the incisions is the one where they pulled my stomach through), went to the doctor today and he said they were fine. But of course when I returned home the scabs had come off and it was back open! Any thoughts on this? Other than that it’s been fine. Going through a lot of emotions realizing I can’t eat like I used to and just realizing how much I relied on food was hard for me. But with the support of my husband and family I am doing better. My main reason for getting the sleeve is because I was diagnosed with PCOS. Me and my husband have been trying to conceive for about 2.5/ 3yrs now. I finally went to the doctor and was told I had PCOS about 2years ago. I went through the ringer with them putting me on birth control, hormones etc. until I found a blog that said none of that helped PCOS but those things were just a band aid solution. I tried losing weight and managed to lose 40lbs, which all came back within 2 months. And I started noticing how no matter what I did or what I ate the weight just kept coming. I went through a bout of depression about not being able to have kids, and that is when I decided to look into weight loss surgery. I heard that it can reverse PCOS symptoms and works almost 95% of the time. When I attended the seminar the doctors also said it worked a lot for people with PCOS. So I am excited to see where this journey takes me. I am doing this to be healthy but a big chunk of me really hopes I can get pregnant a year from now as well. I am only 23 (turning 24 on April 30th!) so I have a lot of life left to live and love to give lol and it’d be great if I could start a family. Any success stories?? Or anybody out there like me with PCOS?? Thanks for reading I know it’s long lol. [I am 5’7 and weighed 410lbs going into this. After the 2 week liquid diet I was down to 397lbs. After surgery I was 399lbs. As of today I am 373lbs. So that’s 37lbs from the beginning and 26lbs post surgery.] -
Well I’m not sure about how many calories you’re supposed to be eating at this stage, all I know is that I track mine. Here’s what I eat In a typical day and it comes out to 650 cals Breakfast: 1 cup unsweetened vanilla milk and a scoop of fruity pebble protein shake (iso100) Lunch: 1 chicken breast mini enchilada from real good foods Dinner: 1 ham roll up with a few slices of avocado and onions and .25oz of cheese snack 1: Quest peanut butter protein cups snack 2: quest birthday cake cookie I still feel restriction though so I’m not really past 2.5/3oz. At a time But don’t worry because the goal is to get to 4oz eventually, so if you are already there just make sure you watch what you eat and don’t overeat! I’m sure if you went over 4-5oz you would feel your restriction lol. As long as your still losing don’t worry about it too much. I’m also at the point where I’m incorporating exercise and about to start strength training in the gym as well. hope this helps and good luck!

Hi! I had my surgery about 5 weeks ago too on April 4th. I still have the restrictions and can’t really eat past 2-3 ounces but I am noticing myself getting more snacky in between meals, so that is a bit concerning to me as well. As silly as it sounds I have been starting to worry that my stomach is growing back lol. In the beginning I wouldn’t feel so snacky but now I am, and not to mention the infamous 3 week stall I have hit for 2 weeks now! But tomorrow is weigh in day and I pray I broke it. i haven’t even eaten fruits yet as my diet says I can’t until like 3months, lucky you because I REALLY want a pineapple. good luck to you and I’m sure everything will be fine. Just try to track what you’re eating it really makes a difference and makes you more conscious, so even if you don’t feel the restriction you are still putting nutrients and protein in your body.

Thanks so much for that info. I’ve done a lot of research on PCOS and a lot of reading here as well. It seems like the weight loss surgery helps a lot but then there are some stories that have me worried! So I’m trying to stay positive and keep believing that I will be a success story. -

Anyone with PCOS not lose weight after surgery
Cat0430 replied to Ruth9454's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Wow! I’m glad I’m not alone either! Everything is going okay. I was really bummed about the stall but after reading it happens to so many people I have come to terms with it. It’s so hard for me to get 64oz in everyday especially since I wasn’t a huge water drinker before hand. How are you doing with everything? I hope all is well with you too! -
I got mine done on 4/4! So not the 8th but pretty close. How’s everything going for you??

Anyone with PCOS not lose weight after surgery

I have PCOS as well. I had my surgery on April 4th, 2022. So I am 19 days out. My initial weight was 410lbs before the 2 week liquid diet. My weight the day of surgery was 399lbs. My current weight as of today is 374.8lbs. So I’ve lost 36lbs in total and 25lbs post surgery. I am actually at a stall now. Having only lost 1lb this week. And I’m starting to think it has something to do with my PCOS and that i won’t lose anymore. This is quite discouraging as one of the main reasons I chose to do this surgery was so that I could correct my PCOS and potentially have children in the future. I am only 19 days out and already stalling, it’s a bit worrying to me. i do struggle with water intake, but my doctor said that that’s normal for the first few weeks considering my stomach is still so small. So I don’t really know why I’m not losing anymore and I just hope it breaks soon.
