Two days out I was really nervous, too. 1 day out I couldn't believe that this time tomorrow I would be banded. Morning of surgery was mixed excitement/nervousness. Once they take you in to get prepped, everything goes really fast. My anesthesiologist came to talk to me and he was great (and cute!). I told him what had happened to me the one time I had anesthesia (I woke up with the oxygen mask on my face. I wanted it off but couldn't move, so I started to hyperventilate). He told me that if possible, he would use the nose one instead. I went into the OR and was transferred to the operating table. The anesthesiologist put the oxygen mask with the anesthesia on my face and said "See you in Recovery". Then "all of a sudden" I'm waking up in Recovery, with the nose thing in, surgery over! It was very surreal, but it went smoothly and I woke up calmly. Wishing you both the best!!!

I had an overnight stay in the hospital and I wish I had outpatient surgery!! The majority of the pain I had was hospital-caused. My first IV in my left hand gave out 15 hours after surgery and my arm started getting puffy. So we had to switch to the right arm. Well, veins are really deep in the right and hard to find-so the nurses (I had 2 trying to find veins) poked a couple of times and were searching around inside my hand with the needle-had to look away because it was causing me pain and anxiety. Blew a vein and then had to poke AGAIN. This one hurt like heck -3 times to get it in and I cried a bucket of tears. :mad2::crying: That IV lasted an hour and a half. Then they switched back to my left arm and put it in my forearm. They (this time I had 3 nurses trying) put lidocain on the arm first and that helped-just a single sharp pain and they got it in on the first try. It was 4am by this time. I then slept in my CHAIR til 5:30 a.m. Why the chair? Because the other source of pain came from getting in and out of the piece of crap hospital bed. OMG..I hate that bed. It made me cry:crying::smile::crying:. With the IV fluids, I had to go to the bathroom about every 3 hours-round the clock. And the bed was too high off the ground (at its lowest setting) so my feet couldn't touch. On top of the pain, I was seriously freaked out that I would rip something internally, like my port! It was so hard getting in and out because you can't turn or use your stomach muscles to balance and shift. It would have been so much better for me to have been home right after surgery- way less pain and way more sleep:sad_smile: Today I'm 3 days post op...not too bad. Belly looks about 7 months pregnant, a little pain in the port area, and my back hurts. So much better since I got home:thumbup:

Did your Doc require a pre-op diet?
charlie4171 replied to whosthatgirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I think mine is a little different. It is only 3 days of clear liquids, but I also have to drink two bottles of a saline laxative (didn't even know they existed) the day before surgery. I think he just wants everything cleared out-completely! I will be staying home on Wednesday.:wink2: -
I'm right there with you-I start my pre-op today too(tried to get a head start yesterday, but it didn't quite work out!). Thankfully, it's only for 3 days (but then I do the same thing for 10 days post op). Good luck!!

Completely Frustrated
charlie4171 replied to CMTurner's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My band journey has been really, really fast. From consult with surgeon to surgery will be 9 days! But before, since, and after that initial consult, I have done extensive research, had my questions for the doc ready when I went in, met with the dietician for 1 1/2 hours, asked her questions, then was quizzed by her after everything she told me, then had 1 hour of pre op and had to take a test. Plus I was given a notebook with just about everything I could want info wise and told that I had better be reading it when the nurse comes in to check on me post-op because they will be mad if I'm reading the National Enquirer instead (I've already read it twice!). Plus the dietician gave me a step by step guide for eating for each of the 4 pre/post op phases. Also went to the info seminar and my first support group meeting. I'm the type that can't have enough info, can't be prepared enough, etc (AKA Control Freak:lol:). There really is so much to do and prepare, both mentally and physically. I feel sorry for the girl who doesn't know what she is getting into-it's likely going to be really difficult for her. -
Pregnancy is my second reason for getting banded. I am also looking at (hopefully) getting pg next year. I get banded on Aug. 14th.

Did your Doc require a pre-op diet?

My doc requires a 3 day clear liquid with Protein diet: broth, Water, sf popsicles, Isopure or Cytosport, Protein powder mixed with water, jell-o, juice. I started today, one day early. Water, juice, broth, Isopure drink, and popsicles. -
Starting the process...What to expect at consults?
charlie4171 posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi everyone, New here and just starting the lap band journey. I have my initial consult with the surgeon on Aug. 5th. What can I expect at the initial consult? Then I'll have the psych eval...what is that like? Thanks for the info!
