    Good luck Granny . . . I know that you'll do well!
  3. Thanks so much Arabesque. Really good information and so helpful at this point! You have done a great job on your journey.
  4. I'm not afraid of the surgery, but am nervous of the possible long term consequences. Does anyone know if we will ALWAYS have to sip water instead of just drinking it? And will I always have to chew my food 30 times before I swallow? How does life look a year down the road? I have a relatively low BMI (started at 36.1, am now below 35) but have struggled with weighing 30-50 lbs more than I should for almost 40 years. I'm also a healthy 78 yrs. old, so a bit riskier for me. You all just the best group of people I have ever come across, brave, compassionate, smart and willing to give your time to help us newbies. Thanks so much!

    May 2022 surgery?

I agree, the pre op diet is the worst, playing games with my stomach and brain at the same time, and I’m only on the second day! The 5/18 surgery is looking like light at the end of the tunnel at this point, but I know that this will be just the beginning of a new path forward

    May 2022 surgery?

Hey there! I'm just starting my prep liquids tomorrow, surgery scheduled for 5/18. Your positive note gives me such hope I can't even tell you. Thanks for sharing the good news. And sugar free fudgies? All over that. I'm going out this afternoon to put some in the freezer for after the surgery when I'm cleared for full liquids. Keep up the good work and know that you're inspiring a bunch of people out there.

    May 2022 surgery?

I'm May 18 and start a one week liquid fast this Tuesday. My head is spinning from reading so many books/articles/blogs but the best information has come from reading everyone's comments in this forum. You guys are all so kind and helpful. Your comments and responses make me hopeful that I can pull this off and be a part of your supportive community! I'm 78 (very healthy) and hope to blaze a trail for older people who still want to stay active. Even just one lb. a year adds up to an "obese" BMI . Very discouraging. Good luck to all of the May surgeries . . . new life is right around the corner.
  9. Scheduled for VSG and hernia repair surgery 5/18/22

    May 2022 surgery?

Hang in there and if you're a Mom, Happy Mother's Day! My surgery is 5/18 and I'm reading like a maniac trying to figure out what's ahead. From everything I've seen so far, being exhausted, weak and scared happens a lot, but you should get a bit better every day. Try to keep sipping water and getting some protein in and know that there's a lady in Santa Barbara, CA who is rooting for your quick recovery! If you are able to, I would love to keep in touch, hear about your progress.

    May 2022 surgery?

Happy Mother’s Day, wondering how you’re feeling several days from surgery? Hope you’re home and doing great!
  12. Hang in there and get the surgery. While I’m not “morbidly” obese, I rank as obese. You’re right…..terrible words that do nothing to forward treating ourselves with loving kindness. I did however have knee replacements, both sides in 2015 and 2016 which gave me my life back. If losing the weight can allow you to get a knee surgery it gives you an extra incentive. Good luck with the process and getting a date!
  13. Thanks so much Tilly! I'm new to blogs so it's a confidence booster to be able to reach out and learn how to communicate with other patients. I'm not afraid of losing too much weight, but of the recovery time right after surgery and getting through the first month so any helpful hints you can give me about that would be appreciated. My date is May 18 Judy
