Question about hair loss after sleeve
SleeveToBypass2023 replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thank you!! I just want to do the most that I can to keep my skin, hair, and scalp as healthy as I can. -
Regret is normal and part of the process for many
SleeveToBypass2023 replied to SleeverSk's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm not afraid of losing too much weight, I'm more concerned that I won't lose enough. But my BIG worry is what I'm hearing about how bad the gas pain is. I had my gallbladder out in 97 when I was 4 1/2 months pregnant with my son. I remember being more uncomfortable with the incisions (4 lap scars) then anything else. But now I'm seeing that the gas pain is so bad with the bariatric surgery (gallbladder surgery inflated my stomach, so I was thinking it would feel the same way). But now I'm really uneasy. -

Anyone Ever Cancel Their Surgery? I Did... Not Sure How I Feel

What did you ultimately decide? I've been riveted by this thread and I hope, whatever you decided, it'd making you feel happy and at peace. -
Any pre op Hair and Skin Prep tips
SleeveToBypass2023 replied to Jessica1024's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My surgery day is May 3rd, and I have already started taking the Biotin that is recommended. I also take a collagen supplement and I wash my hair, and use a hair mask, with keratin and biotin in it. I'm also upping my protein intake and I make sure to take vitamin E. I also use a scalp massager in the shower when I wash my hair (clears the scalp of dandruff and also stimulates blood flow). For skin, again the collagen and vitamin E are really good. I also use a gentle cleanser that doesn't strip my skin, I use a hydrating toner, a vitamin C serum, a light moisturizing cream. At night I use a pore cleaning cleanser, a hydrating toner, a hydrating hyaluronic acid serum, and a heavier moisturizing cream. I'm doing what I can now to minimize issues with my skin and hair before surgery, and since they are good habits to get into anyway, I want it to become 2nd nature so I can hopefully lessen any issues and continue to take care of myself. -
Heart valve issues anyone?
SleeveToBypass2023 replied to liveaboard15's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have mitral valve prolapse and I was approved for surgery (it's May 3rd). I also have MS. My cardiologist and neurologist as well as PCP all signed off on the surgery because the risk to my health is greater without the surgery than with it. -

How have you been doing? I had to have my gallbladder out when I was 4 1/2 months pregnant with my son. I had severe pancreatitis and had to have 3 days of IV pain meds and antibiotics before I could even have the surgery. I had a horrible attach with throwing up (throat felt like it was on fire and like I was throwing up acid). My gallbladder was so bad it was about to burst when they did the ultrasound and saw it. They freaked out and admitted me right away. I'm so glad you got that horrible organ out (they're terrible lol). I hope you're doing well now. -
Would I qualify?

What is the difference between the MGB and a "regular" bypass? I've never heard of the mini before. -
PCOS and Weight Loss Surgery
SleeveToBypass2023 replied to Dfidelman's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm interested to know this, too. I was diagnosed in 2005. My surgeon has had MANY women with PCOS have surgery and said he has seen a lot of success with it. I'm really hopeful... -
Anyone seeing Dr John Weaver at Denver Center for Bariatric Surgery??
SleeveToBypass2023 posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Looking to see if anyone is having, or has had, their surgery here. My surgery date is May 5th and I'm so excited!!! I love my coordinator Grace and the dietician Hilary there, and even though I only saw Dr Weaver once he was really nice and patient and went over everything with me. My surgery is at Rose Medical Center, and I've never been there. Hoping someone on here has and can tell me about it. -

Plastic surgery pricing and insurance
SleeveToBypass2023 replied to onmyway11's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
What insurance do you have? I have BCBS of Illinois, and I also have MS. I know once I've reached my goal weight I'm going to have to get the skin removed or else it'll make my back and mobility have issues. It never occurred to me that I could get insurance to cover any of it. -
Feeling kind of devastated…

So how are you doing? It's been almost a month since your first post. Are you liking your look any better? Are you still in a lot of pain? -
Disappointed
SleeveToBypass2023 replied to sammygirl111's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
My husband's A1c is 13 and his surgeon won't even think about surgery until he gets it below 9. Mine was 6.9 (I cut out ALL sugar for 3 months and it took it from 8.4 to 6.9 so my doctor is thrilled and I was approved). My husband's doctor told him it's because a high A1c means the body is unstable, and it puts more stress on other organs. Doing a major surgery with the body like that is a recipe for disaster. Did you ever get it rechecked? Did you get to have your surgery yet? -
I have BCBS of Illinois (PPO) and I live in Colorado and work remotely. Everything here is covered and I don't have to go to any other state for anything. Definitely set up your BCBS insurance portal. You can find doctors in your network on there. If you can't, definitely call customer service.

My surgeon said in general, sleeve patients lost about 10% less weight than gastric bypass. But he also said that's the average. He said he has seen patients who are really motivated and disciplined actually lost the same or even a little more. Depends a lot on the person.

I have BCBS of Illinois and medicaid as a secondary insurance. What I was told is that the actual doctor visits and surgery are covered by my primary insurance and medicaid covers what they won't (not for the surgery itself, but for the copays and deductibles). I have about $1500 I have to pay for my deductible and out of pocket expense, and medicaid is paying all but $150 of it. So my actual out of pocket costs are $150 for the sleeve. Not bad (I live in Colorado, so their medicaid is amazing).

So I have Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois. My doctor submitted my paperwork on March 30th and I had my approval on April 1st. I'm not kidding. Nobody has ever seen it go that fast.
