My hell week starts tomorrow (April 26th)

How have you been doing on it?

My hell week starts tomorrow (April 26th)

I was hoping this wouldn't be the case. With so much of the hunger hormone removed, I hoped it would be a while before we felt hunger like that.

    Numbness and tingling

What did the ER say? You should call your surgeon again. And again, and again. As many times as you need until you get to the bottom of this.

My hell week starts tomorrow (April 26th)

Day 2 is done, now on day 3. Hubby went to the store and bought me some V8 (I love the stuff), some sugar free iced tea, and some pho broth (my absolute FAVORITE). It's really helped. And tomorrow he's ordering chinese food for dinner and getting me wanton soup (my other favorite - but I won't be eating the wantons, sadly). He's really going above and beyond to help me get through this diet, and I just love him even more for it. Surgery is 5 days away. I got this!!!

That sounds like something you should really contact your surgeon about!!

    Kinda TMI question...

So I just realized that I'm set to get my monthly enemy literally on my surgery day (May 3rd). I get it between the 2nd - 4th every month. Has that been the case for any of you? And how did you handle it in the hospital and when you got home? I feel like my stomach and the gas and incisions will make it really difficult and painful to deal with tampons (that's what I use) and even if I use pads, I feel like that would still be an issue since I have PCOS and my flow is typically REALLY heavy for 3 or 4 days and then goes away (I mean Niagara Falls kinda heavy, which is why I don't use pads). Any advice or suggestions? My husband can help me with most things, but definitely not this lol Thanks in advance!

My hell week starts tomorrow (April 26th)

So day 1 is in the books and I'm now on to day 2. Something I learned is that I have to make sure I'm getting enough calories. I only had just under 600 calories for the day yesterday and I was beyond tired, had headaches, and felt shaky. Today I'm making sure I have between 1000 - 1200 calories, and hopefully I'll feel better.

My hell week starts tomorrow (April 26th)

I'm really struggling with being hungry, but I come back to this forum a lot, and I read the bariatric handbook from my surgeon's office, and I remind myself why I'm doing this. I'm not going to give up or cheat or walk away from this. I've come so far, I'm not screwing it up now. BUT, it's still really hard. I'm HUNGRY!!!! But I'm working, watching true crime, watching Netflix and Hulu, and whining to my husband LOL I know I'll get through it, but this part REALLY really stinks.

My hell week starts tomorrow (April 26th)

Thank you so much, everyone. I know I sound like a whiny child, but not eating (when my issue is eating too much) is really hard. I had my morning protein shake and now I'm drinking a protein water. I'm having a protein smoothie for lunch and then another protein water later on. For dinner I'm having beef broth with beef Better Than Bouillon soup base. Then I'm having a sugar free popsicle for dessert and 1 more protein water before bed. I REALLY hope keeping to this kind of eating schedule will make this week bearable.

    May 2022 surgery?

I know!!! Exactly 1 week away from surgery day!!! And I'm not even a little nervous about it. I'm more stressed about this stupid pre-op diet LOL

    May 2022 surgery?

Just liquids. So protein shakes, protein water, protein smoothies, various broths, and sugar free popsicles.

My hell week starts tomorrow (April 26th)

Nope, 1 week of all liquids only I have 20 minutes until it starts, so I'm eating an apple, a banana, and a few grapes lol

    Side affects from protein shakes?

Thanks for posting this!!!! I start my pre op diet tomorrow and I have some of the Premier Cafe Latte (got a variety pack) and I was wondering if it had caffeine in it or if it was just coffee flavored.
  14. SleeveToBypass2023

    Pre-op

That's surprising. My dietician went over the pre op diet with me before I even had the surgery date, and then again after I got it. And then a 3rd time when I had my pre op appt.

    May 2022 surgery?

Mine starts tomorrow, and honestly, it's the part I'm dreading the most. HOW is a fat person supposed to get through a whole week with no food??? lol

Over night stay at hospital. Yay or nay

Why the rush to get home? This is major surgery, and having nurses and pain meds and a reclining bed are all huge reasons to stay. Not to mention doctors usually want to test your pain levels, swallowing, walking, etc... Staying 1 night is a way better idea than going home the same day. My surgeon won't even allow it. You have to stay 1 night.

    Not Happy

Maybe look into some therapy to see why you're having a hard time making better food choices. The surgery is a tool, not a miracle cure. You've made great progress, and you can get back on track and make more.
  21. Unfortunately, nobody can give you those guarantees. If you stick with the surgeon's plan for you, odds are fantastic that things will work out like they're supposed to. But there are no guarantees with anything. It's a big decision, yes, but it's a bigger decision to do nothing. i knew it was time to do something drastic when I couldn't walk without pain, couldn't control my weight no matter what I did (and I did A LOT), when I looked through old pics and saw how thin and mobile and healthy I used to be, and when I got sick of having diabetes and high blood pressure. I have PCOS and MS, and I want to eliminate as many pills as I can (I already have some I'll have to take for the rest of my life) and I decided I was sick and tired of letting life pass me by because of choices I was making (or not making). Maybe look into some therapy to help you through your fears and help you decide what the best route to go is. Make sure you make a decision that is best for you and that you'll be happy with.

    Planning ahead just incase...

Nope. That's Medicare. Medicaid is different.

    Planning ahead just incase...

I can tell you here in Colorado, the Medicaid covers A LOT A LOT A LOT. And you can establish residency almost immediately (my family and I got here Feb 9th 2018, opened up a PO Box for mail, applied for benefits, and got my license all within 10 days of getting here). I'm no longer on any benefits, but I can tell you there isn't anything anyone in the family needed (including my nearly $11k in meds each month for my MS) that they didn't cover.

    How much calcium??

Thank you all so so much!!!! This information is exactly what I needed. And I completely didn't know (or more likely, remember) the 3x a day part!!!! I love this forum.

    Hitting Rock Bottom...

My surgery is on the 3rd of May, and I'm 5'6" and 390 lbs. I have a higher bmi than you (63) and I completely feel your pain. I have 2 kids and 1 granddaughter, I have PCOS and MS, and I have comorbidities (diabetes and hypertension). I wasn't always big like this. I was thin until I had my son, and my PCOS reared it's ugly head and it's been a battle ever since. I gave up for a long time because nothing I did made any lasting difference. I know I made it so much worse, but I really didn't care anymore. Then I started having more health issues, my asthma got a lot worse, I started having more joint and back pain, and I knew I was taking years off my life by wallowing in my misery and terrible lifestyle. I had to face some really hard truths about myself. Yes, I have health issues that are out of my control and that have significantly hampered my attempts at a healthier lifestyle. But I gave up, gave in, and wallowed in it. I had to own my part in it and then decide if I have what it takes to do things different this time. Once I made my choice, there was no going back for me, and here I am. I'm so ready, so excited, and I WILL succeed because anything less isn't an option. You'll get there. This is a long and sometimes frustrating process, but it's so so worth it. Knowing you're taking your life back is so empowering and FREEING!!! Food doesn't own me anymore. It's not my friend or enemy. It's just there. I made it more, and I took that power back and see it for what it is...something I need to fuel my body so I can live the life I want. I'm wishing you all the luck in the world. I know you can do this. YOU GOT THIS!!!!
