  1. I was told I could eat burgers. I was told there isn't anything I can't eat as long as my stomach tolerates it and I watch the amount I eat, how often, and I make sure to watch the protein and carbs. And that's what I do.

    Blah...my first stall...

Homemade burgers. I was told I can since I'm a couple of days from 6 weeks out. I don't eat fries or pasta or breads or any of that. I don't eat sweets. I drink black tea, green tea, protein water, my protein shake in the morning (has caffeine), sugar free juice, flavored water.

    Blah...my first stall...

I'm so frustrated. I lost 30 pounds the first 2 weeks after surgery. Then I hit a stall for 2 weeks. Lost 5 pounds when the stall broke, and then literally lost nothing else. Stayed at that weight for a week, and now I'm gaining weight!!!!! I don't understand it. I bought a food scale and I weigh everything. I check the labels on everything to make sure Protein is high and carbs and fats are low. I work out once, sometimes twice, a day. I never have restriction, so I make sure to set alarms for when I can eat so I don't graze or eat too much (I eat 3 meals and 1 snack per day). I'm always hungry, but I do my best to ignore it and stick to the diet and eating schedule. I did a journal of what I eat and I sent it to my dietician and she said "it looks good, you're doing what you're supposed to. It might be that you have PCOS and it's holding on to your weight and even putting some back on. We see this a lot in PCOS patients." Wait....what??? I lost 100 pounds in 8 months on Keto, but I can't lose more than 30 with WLS??? And it took 2 months before the weight came back with keto, but I can't even make it to 6 weeks post op before the weight starts coming back with WLS??? I went down from a size 30 in clothing to a size 22 before the weight came back with keto. I haven't gone down any clothing sizes with WLS and my clothes are still fitting pretty much the same (I've gained 6 pounds back from the 30 I lost). I can drink as much as I want, eat anything I want, don't have to eat slow because there's no restriction and nothing to make me slow down, I could only eat 1/3 of a burger a week or so ago, now I can eat a whole one with no issues and not quite feel comfortable yet (I still stop, even though I'm still hungry). I know everyone says my stomach is still healing, but I never lost my hunger hormone, I never had food aversion, I never really had any restriction. After the first 2 weeks (my stomach was still very sensitive and I had to crush pills and be careful what I ate because PAIN), I never had any other ANYTHING that would even indicate I had surgery. Literally nothing has changed. So I follow the diet, weigh my food, eat only at my designated times, work out, journal what I eat, stay hungry, gain weight back, and basically just live miserably every day.

    multiple sclerosis and gastric sleeve

My surgery went well. Haven't had any MS flares at all. Had a bit of a slow recovery because of the incision they removed the stomach from. That one really hurt for a while. Other than that, things went well and I didn't have complications. Don't really have any restriction, and my hunger definitely never went away. I lost a lot of weight really fast, and then hit a 2 week stall, and now the weight is coming off super slow. Like SLOOOOW. But this is a marathon, not a sprint. I'll get there in the end.

What do YOU order at Starbucks?

I love their matcha lemonade, their iced vanilla latte with sugar free vanilla syrup, their iced black tea with lemonade, and their matcha passion tango tea.

    Over eating

I found myself eating more than I should yesterday and part of today. I was only able to eat 1/3 of a burger patty, and then I felt very comfortable and I knew to stop. Well yesterday NOTHING I ate had me feeling comfortable. I'm not talking restriction, I mean comfortable and just not hungry anymore. I'm 5 weeks post op and have started eating actual food (slowly since I'm a week early on it) and I haven't felt that feeling of restriction or feeling comfortable like I read about. I thought starting solids would make it easier to learn my limits. Who knew I'd end up never feeling any restriction or feel comfortable when eating actual food (no, it's not slider foods. It's burgers, chicken, pork chops, veggies, etc...) I think we have to just power through it, reset ourselves, and recommit to the bariatric and diet and just stick to it. I bought a food scale so I'm starting to weigh everything and hoping I can just get used to the amount of food and hopefully teach my stomach it's not starving and maybe the hunger will stop.

    Not losing Weight

It really is different for everyone. I lost a ton of weight really fast. Like 30 pounds in 2 weeks kind of fast. Then I had a stall for 2 weeks, and now I'm losing sloooooooow. Like really slow. I'm still losing, but now it's like 3-4 pounds a week.

What do YOU order at Starbucks?

Soooo glad I found this!!!! I know it's really old, but MAN this is helpful.
  9. So i wanted some variety in my foods while still keeping my protein high, and I found these. I ordered the beef and mushroom soup and OH MAN it's sooooo good. So now I'm going to be ordering the beef and veggie, the tuscan style chicken, the savory wedding, the roasted chicken, and the beef chili. Each order comes with an 8 pack of whatever soup you order. I eat other things than soups, but these are good for stocking up in a pantry (where mine are) and you just dump the pouch of soup in a bowl, microwave it, and eat it. I haven't had a lot of luck with high protein foods (the high protein puddings and oatmeal UGH BLAH). So I just thought I would share this. It's more for having in an emergency, stocking food up, if you don't cook, if you need something last minute, etc... https://trueprimal.com/shop

Found these AMAZING high protein soups

Not that I saw. I can look for single pouches, though.

I also got these for snacks: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07KFP95CG?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07ZJQP6TJ?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

Found these AMAZING high protein soups

The cost was high, but I can't eat a full pouch in a meal (1 meqal is 1 whole pouch). So the pack of 8 soups actually gives me 16 meals. The protein is really good, and while the carbs (still lower are protein) and fat are a little higher than I would want on a day to day basis, I wanted them because they are able to be stored on my shelf, Colorado is having major food shortages at random times, and we still get stupid snow in the summer (we just had it in Mid May), so it's good to have on hand in case it's needed (and if I'm sick or having MS issues, cooking or shopping are off the table, so ready to eat foods are always needed).

    5 days post op

I slept propped up in my loveseat because I don't have a recliner. It worked well. I had to do it for about a week before I could sleep in my bed. As for the fluids and protein, that's likely the reason you're feeling off. Also, you may not be getting enough calories. Try to drink protein shakes and protein water, that way you can at least get your fluids and protein in at the same time.

Anyone denied AND they meet ALL criteria/co-morbidities

That's so surprising. I was on bp meds and diabetes meds and was controlled on them, but they were still counted as comorbidites. Maybe it's because you only had pre diabetes and not full blown yet, so they didn't count it. And they usually require 2 comorbidites when your bmi is below 40. I'm really glad your office manager fought for you and you were able to get the surgery. How are you doing since you had it?

Self pay- insurance doesn’t cover WLS

THIS!!!! I have BCBS of Illinois, and it is offered in the higher level plan tiers. I have the diamond plan because of my other health issues and needed ALL the coverage. But they cover it on the gold, platinum, and diamond plans automatically (as long as you qualify) or on the lower level plans if your employer opts for it. At least, that's how my insurance company explained it to me.

    Caffeine/ coffee

I was offered coffee in the hospital, but I don't drink coffee lol I get my caffeine from the protein shakes that have it (fairlife is amazing). I've had it from day 1 that I was allowed to have the shakes. Also, my dietician said as long as you increase your fluids when having caffeine, you'll be ok because caffeine tends to dehydrate. I drink my shake in the morning and then another 70+ ounces in fluids throughout the day.

    Best Vegetables To Start Eating

My first were just the other day. Grilled onions and mushrooms. Very soft and I felt like a train the way I had to chew, chew, chew. But my stomach was totally fine. Tonight I had twice steamed broccoli that was cut up, and again I chew, chew, chewed and it was also fine. But also remember to eat slowly. It'll feel fine AT FIRST if you eat quickly, but then it all settles in your stomach and YIKES. Not fine. NOT...FINE....

Frustrated with being unable to eat

That's not silly at all. I wish I had that must restriction. I'm 4 weeks out, as well, and I can eat 3 ounces of food per meal, which I don't like. But it'll get better. I was told that as time goes on, you can eat more. But our stomachs are still healing, and some take longer than others. Look at the wins you're having when you start feeling down. Remind yourself that you can eat without any issues, remember the weight you're losing, focus on how your body is feeling and moving. This is a good thing, although I know food addiction is a beast. You can do this

    Very low heart rate

Also, here's something from the Mayo clining about it: https://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/fitness/expert-answers/heart-rate/faq-20057979#:~:text=A normal resting heart rate for adults ranges from 60,to 40 beats per minute.
  20. SleeveToBypass2023

    Very low heart rate

I'm 4 weeks post op, and I've noticed my heart rate has dropped, as well. Before surgery I was always sitting at 68-73 bpm. Now I'm at 60-64 bpm. Nothing crazy, but I noticed when I work out and my heart rate used to go to like 110 or 115, it now goes to like 98 - 103 or so. So I'm just keeping an eye on it and if i dips to what is considered too low, I will consult my cardiologist (my PCP isn't worried right now, so at least there's that). My surgeon said it's normal because as we drop weight and get healthier, our hearts don't have to work as hard.

    I'm struggling losing weight

Could be a stall. I lost 30 pounds in 2 weeks, then hit a stall that I am now on day 14 of. I gained a few pounds and then nothing. Not a single ounce lost. Nada. It's super frustrating, but it's normal and from what I'm seeing and reading, it's gonna eventually break. Just gotta keep working the plan and wait it out.

    Blah...my first stall...

Yeah I'm going to head out tomorrow and get one (it's Memorial Day here and I don't want to deal with crowds at Walmart and Target with people getting last minute stuff for parties and BBQs).
  25. This has meal plans for liquid diet, post op diet, pouch reset, "get back on track", weight management, etc...
