So many updates, so little time...

That's why I chose it, as well. I'm off my anti inflammatory (Celebrex) and I'm off my 3 diabetes pills (Metformin, Januvia, and Glipizide) and my blood pressure pill (Lisinopril) but I have 3 meds for my MS that I will never be able to stop taking. My surgeon told me if I have bypass I won't be able to take pills (these meds don't come in any other form and can't be crushed) so I chose the sleeve. THEN, I saw several people (A LOT of people, actually) on here who had bypass and are able to take pills, some even from day 1 while still in the hospital. So that's when I started to second guess my decision. Maybe it would have been possible to take pills, and if so, then I definitely made the wrong choice.

So many updates, so little time...

Well, I'm on day 14 of my stall, and it's weird that I'm not stressing. I think I expect it to last a good 3 to 3 1/2 weeks since each stall lasts about a week longer than the previous one. My scope is next week, and I'll be glad to finally get it done. I seem to be doing ok with 40mg of Nexium twice a day, although I have to really watch what I eat still, and I have to take the GI cocktail when I start having bad problems again. I took it for a week before every meal. Now I take it as needed. The shedding from my hair is getting pretty heavy now. It's not worrying me because I knew it was coming, but it's really getting on my nerves!!! My hair is literally getting EVERYWHERE!!! I have to clean it a few times a day. If I run my fingers through my hair, I shed. If I brush my hair, I shed. If I wash my hair, I shed. When I get up in the morning, the movement on my pillow through the night caused me to MAJORLY shed. It's really aggravating. I'll be glad when it slows down. Now that I'm almost 4 1/2 months out from surgery, I noticed I'm able to eat larger portions of food. That's tripped me up a few times, so I have to be extra mindful of that. I really wish I had lost my hunger, and I really wish I had restriction. I didn't get any of the useful benefits or "extras" that most get with the surgery. BUT, I'm still working out and doing what I'm supposed to. I just wish it wasn't such an uphill battle everyday. I definitely wish I had gone with the bypass. But I didn't, so I'm going to do everything I can to make this work.

Stalled at only 2 weeks post-op

I hit my 3 week stall at 2 1/2 weeks. It's normal. It'll break and you'll lose weight again. Just stick to your plan and watch for the non scale victories. Those are a huge help.

BS in Economic Financial Crime with a certificate in Fraud Detection and Prevention. I already work as a Financial Crime Investigator for the last 18 years, but I've gone as far as I can without a degree, so now it's time to just get it done.
  6. I had the sleeve, and I have PCOS. My hair was down to my butt and was shedding anyways (pcos does that). At about 3 1/2 months post op I started noticing my hair was shedding more than normal and was thinning a little. I went and got it cut to where it just touches my shoulders. That helped a lot with looking fuller, and it's easier to manage and take care of. I always make sure to get the top level amount of protein (80-90mg per day) because your roots and hair need protein to grow but can't produce it. I also take biotin and do hair masks and serums because while it doesn't do anything to prevent hair loss or promote growth, it helps your hair look and feel healthy, shiny, soft, and keeps it from being frizzy. And also, self care is so important. That's why I'm huge into skin and hair care.

    Men are so frustrating!!!!

Oh wow, I wasn't expecting things to devolve into an argument. No need for insults or name calling, no need for arguing, let's just all get along.

Also, for a while he's been getting lazier and whatnot, and he's pretty much always been a quitter. But since the surgery is when it's gotten REALLY bad and completely out of hand.

    Men are so frustrating!!!!

My past post was a concern that he would change after I had the surgery. This post is essentially because I was right. I think, like you mentioned, this might be in "retaliation" to me getting the surgery.

No, this isn't all in fun. And no, this hasn't been going on for years. It's been since I had the surgery.

    Men are so frustrating!!!!

THIS THIS THIS!!!!! 100% exactly where I am. This is a new lease on life, you know? Let's embrace it, try new things, try old things that we couldn't really do before, let's just try THINGS!!! If I wanted everything to stay exactly the same I wouldn't have bothered with the surgery. And you can also message me anytime you want, too

    Men are so frustrating!!!!

I agree with you about counseling, but it's hard to do it when only 1 of you sees a problem. He's super happy with the way things are and thinks I'm just being a b*&ch when I complain about it or even try to talk about it.

    Men are so frustrating!!!!

I'm bi, and my longest relationship with a woman was 6 years. And while we had issues similar to yours, it was NEVER as bad as it is with my husband!! I'm really and truly at my wits end.

    Was my surgery successful?

I never lost the hunger at all whatsoever. It's miserable, having to limit what you eat when you're still hungry. BUT, eventually you ARE able to train your brain and stomach that you've eaten enough and you're not starving. It's important not to overeat because not only can you hurt your new stomach, you'll slide right back into the habits that got you here in the first place. Also, I learned the hard way that just because you CAN eat more doesn't mean you SHOULD. The head hunger is the absolute worst. That's the hardest to learn to ignore. But I promise you, it really can be done. Just stick with it.

    WHAT is this???

I made a post about GERD here: https://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/441776-is-this-gerd/ But now I'm not sure what is going on. So here's what I'm dealing with: 1) burning in my throat and occasionally my chest and stomach 2) nausea when eating anything at all, no matter what it is or how much or little of it I try to eat 3) can't tolerate anything but liquids now 4) if I try to eat, it literally won't go down. It sits at the bottom of my throat and doesn't move for AGES. Drinking liquid doesn't help. It just gets stuck there, too. 5) lots of burping and hiccups 6) dark, sticky kinda poo (sorry, tmi) 7) heaviness and pain in my upper stomach/abdominal area 8 ) occasional shortness of breath 9) feeling full after literally 2 or 3 bites of something (small bites, and before stuff wouldn't go down, I was trying to eat and I would be PAINFULLY full after 2 or 3 bites) 10) literally woke up with what felt like acid in my throat this morning (now my throat feels raw and hurts) Some of this sounds like GERD, but some of it doesn't. My husband looked it up and said it sounds like a hiatal hernia, but I don't know. Anyone have experience with that? I'm up late because I'm in so much pain and I can't sleep. Definitely looking forward to calling my surgeon's office. But still, anyone on here have any clue at all what this might be??

    WHAT is this???

Yes, I take the GI cocktail but it's GROSS. And it burns when it first goes down (for like 5-8 seconds) and then it feels a little weird because the esophagus is numb and feels odd. But I'm on liquid and mushy foods and after I take the cocktail, I can eat. I take it 3 times a day, about 15 minutes before I eat.

    WHAT is this???

For those that don't know what my diagnosis' are, here ya go: 1) esophageal dysmotility - a condition where the muscles in your esophagus fail to contract and the esophagus does not properly deliver food and liquids into your stomach. 2) esophageal spasms - painful contractions within the muscular tube connecting your mouth and stomach (esophagus). Sometimes the spasms are frequent and can prevent food and liquids from traveling through the esophagus 3) esophagitis - inflammation that may damage tissues of the esophagus, the muscular tube that delivers food from your mouth to your stomach. 4) gastritis - inflammation, irritation, or erosion of the lining of the stomach. It can occur suddenly (acute) or gradually (chronic). 5) reflux - occurs when stomach acid backs up into the esophagus

5 months post op hair loss

Biotin is more for the quality and health of the hair itself. It really does nothing for the scalp and roots. It doesn't slow or prevent hair loss (no matter what the interwebs say lol ) The best thing to do is just wait it out. Honestly. I know it sucks (my hair always shed more because of pcos but now it's SHEDDING and it's bothersome, but I know it's normal and it'll stop, so I'm just riding it out) but meeting your protein goals is the most important. Hair needs protein to grow, but it can't produce it. Without protein, your hair will shed and not be able to come back in. For me, I'm staying at the top of the protein requirement (80-90g per day) just to make sure my hair will have what it needs. I use hair masks and all that, but it's mostly because I like my hair soft, shiny, and not frizzy (I have hair that will poof out like a poodle if I don't keep it under control). They don't help with regrowth, but I like the routine of self care, and I like how my hair looks and feels after.

    Is this GERD???

2 nights ago I had some kind of episode where I had a snack about 45 minutes after I worked out at night and I had INCREDIBLE pain. Felt heavy, sharp pains, burning. Hurt to sit up, hurt to lay down, couldn't find a comfortable position. Took pepto twice before I finally got any relief after about an hour. I was left with burning in my throat. My husband said it sounds like reflux (I'm on a PPI for 6 months, but I've never had reflux or GERD or anything before). My snack was normal (1 tbsp hummus and 1/4 cup sliced cucumbers) but my workout was more intense than normal (had the treadmill at a 5.5 incline at a speed of 3.5). Now I have burning in my throat everyday and slight nausea depending on what I eat. The burning in the back of my throat is getting bothersome. I'm already on 40mg of Omeprazole daily (I never had GERD or reflux in the past, but I have to be on it for 6 months after the surgery) and after the "episode" that my husband said was a big GERD issue (he has it and said it's exactly like what happens with him) I haven't been able to eat without being nauseous and I have a persistent burning in the back of my throat. Not sure what to do since I'm already on something. I may need to call my surgeon's office on Monday, but this is going to make for a miserable weekend.

    Is this GERD???

I have an appt with my NP on Friday. They said if I haven't gotten a call from the GI by then to schedule my appt for the scope then they will call them to get me in quickly. I was given a "GI cocktail" that numbs my esophagus, treats the acid in my stomach, and prevents nausea and vomiting. My hubby is going to get it filled now. My paperwork says it's an antacid, Donnatal, and viscous lidocaine. I was given a dose in the ER and it BURNS initially, but then after about 20 or so minutes, I was actually able to eat a very small amount of food!!!! I came home and had 1 plain scrambled egg, and it was GLORIOUS!!!! Actual food!!!!! I'm back on a liquid and mushy food diet (just like after surgery) until this gets resolved, but at least I have a way to have some food again!!!! My official diagnosis thus far is esophageal dysmotility with esophageal spasms, moderate esophagitis, mild to moderate gastritis, mild to moderate reflux. Referral to GI for scope to rule out hernia. Prescription for GI cocktail consisting of lidocaine, Donnatal, and Maalox. No leakage, blockage, or stricture.

    WHAT is this???

I have esophagitis, gastritis, and gerd. I'm being referred to a GI specialist to have a scope done to see if there's a hernia. They could only do the barium swallow test in the ER. OH, also, apparently my esophagus spasms pretty dramatically any time I eat or drink anything. So...yeah.

    WHAT is this???

Hi sorry for the delay in update. I had to wait for the NP to call me back. I left a message with everything going on and she just called me and said my surgeon said to go to the ER. He's calling ahead to tell them to expect me and he wants a scope done to see what's going on. The NP said it sounds like a really bad hiatal hernia but they need to be sure. So I'm changing clothes and heading there. I'll let you know what's going on once I know.

    WHAT is this???

Hi all. It's only 6:35am where I'm at, so they aren't open yet. I did want to mention to @kcuster83 that I had my gallbladder out back in 97 so I know it's not that. The pain is my upper abdomen/stomach area. I will definitely be very assertive with them. I may even have my husband drive me to their office and just sit there if they can't do anything for me over the phone. I will let you all know what happens after I call (they open at 9am Mountain time). Thanks for your responses!!
