And so it begins...day 1 of my pre-op liquid diet...

I sure hope so. This is harder than the 1st time around.

Thanks, I need it right now

And so it begins...day 1 of my pre-op liquid diet...

Ok, so day 4 sucks, too. But mostly because I have headaches, dizziness, and major fatigue. I'm only getting around 600 calories per day, which at almost 14 months out from my original surgery, is a problem. But there's nothing I can do about it. I drink 3 shakes per day, unsweetened tea, protein water, eat sugar free popsicles (for the calories at this point), and sugar free jello. I'm over the "omg I want foooood" part, but now it's the side effects of not enough calories. UGH.... I'll be glad when I get this surgery and can heal and move on already!!!

    Pre-op liver shrinking diet

I'm in my pre-op diet right now, too, and I can't have any food AT ALL. Nothing. Just shakes, broth, clear liquids, sugar free juice, sugar free popsicles and jello. I'm just starting day 4 and I'm literally climbing the walls. I can't wait to get my revision and have this be over. The pre-op diet is always the worst for me.
  5. When I had my sleeve, my hair loss lasted from months 3-9. It's growing back now and I have about 2 inches of regrowth, but I go in for my revision on the 28th, and I'm nervous about how thin my hair is gonna get now.
  6. Can you link what you use? I'm having my revision surgery on the 28th and I want to get stuff that's not big pills to swallow. Thanks!!

Gastric Sleeve 6/15/23 and now lactose intolerant

I'm one of those weird people that developed all kinds of weird stuff after my sleeve surgery. I developed a nasty shellfish allergy and I'm completely lactose intolerant. I can only have almond milk (which is ok because it's healthier and gives more calcium). I get the unsweetened vanilla almond milk. For icecream, I also get the lactose free, low carb, low sugar pints of Rebel icecream.

Liquid Phase, pre and post op

I like the Premier protein flavored water (they have peach and tropical punch). I also love the vegetable bone broth (chicken, too) and I add bouillon paste to it for deeper flavor. I like the blue protein gatorade and I like the immunity booster Propel water in mango, pineapple peach, strawberry kiwi, watermelon, and black cherry. If you're really desperate for hydration and you've already met your protein goals, get some plain water and add sugar free kool-aid or IV hydration or something like that to it. Different flavors, no sugar, and still getting your water in.

And so it begins...day 1 of my pre-op liquid diet...

Thanks!!! Today is day 3, and it's definitely the worst day. Tomorrow should start to be better and days 5-7 should be a breeze. As long as it follows the same way as last time. But the first 3 days....omg......

    Still Undecided.....

First, yes, you're in your head way too much. Second, that's completely normal. It's a HUGE surgery. It's life changing. It also requires work, dedication, determination, and a willingness to completely change your whole life. But it's so, so worth it. Let me ask you this...have you tried diet and exercise already? How many times? Did you have any success? How long did your progress last before you went right back to your old habits? If you were able to do this on your own, you would have done it. There's no shame in needing the surgery to get where you need and want to be. Take all the time you need, but don't let fear stop you.

    Regrets

Adding seasonings to your food really helps. I also ate sugar free popsicles, just to get the "chewing" feeling. And if you add a bouillon cube to whatever bone broth you're eating, it'll deepen the flavor and make it more satisfying.

Pre-op diet for revision starts on the 22nd!!

I like Premier banana cream ready made shakes, Premier caffe latte ready made shakes, Fairlife chocolate ready made shakes, Atkins chai ready made shakes, SlimFast mocha cappuccino ready made shakes (all shakes are protein shakes and some also have fiber). I like chicken, beef, and veggie bone broths (and I add corresponding bouillon cubes to deepen flavors). I like sugar free popsicles (tropical flavor). I like the blue protein gatorade. I like Premier peach protein water and also their tropical punch protein water. And I like sugar free protein puddings (specifically banana and chocolate ones). That's going to get me through my 1 week pre-op liquid diet and my 2 week post-op liquid diet (that's how long my doctor has us do it).
  13. So here we are again lol My revision from sleeve to bypass is on the 28th, and my pre-op diet (all liquids) starts on the 22nd. The first 3 days are ALWAYS the worst. Day 4 isn't too bad, and days 5-7 aren't bad at all. Those are actually pretty easy. But getting through the first 3 days...omg. That's the really hard part lol Not excited in the least about that. BUT...I'm beyond excited to get the revision and get back to my life. I miss being pain free. I miss working out (weight training, cardio, strength/core training). I miss bike riding and taking long walks. I'm so ready to get my GERD, gastritis, and esophagitis under control (GONE!! ) so I can finally hit my goal weight and move on with my life. At least this time I know what I do and don't like and am stocked up on the drinks and shakes and broths that I enjoy. Trying to figure it out the first time around really sucked lol

Thank you!!! My last one was a week also. But I'm better prepared and know what to expect this time. And I'm stocked with stuff I already know I like.

    liquid diet - surgery Mponday!

If you're a couple days away from surgery, no solid foods. Most pre-op diets look a little different, but it's pretty standard that at least 48 hours before surgery, no solid foods at all. So I wouldn't risk it.

My doc gave me a restaurant discount card

I've never heard of that, but I'd never use it even if I had. Why should the restaurant change the price of things because we eat less? When we go out, I order the smallest size available and bring the rest home. I can eat steak and steamed veggies from Texas Roadhouse for 2-3 days for the price of 1 meal. I'd rather have that then use that weird card.

    JUNE SURGERY BUDDIES

This is normal. It's where the instruments were in. The biggest one is always the worst. When I had my sleeve, that was the one that hurt for like 3 weeks. The rest felt ok after a week, but the biggest one was KILLING me 3 weeks out. By 4 weeks I no pain anywhere at all.

Thank you!!! I can't wait to get this revision done, get all healed up, and then get back to my life and lose the last 70 pounds I need to reach my goal.

    JUNE SURGERY BUDDIES

Went to my pre-op appt today at the hospital for my revision on the 28th. Tomorrow I'm doing my pre-op appt with my surgeon. I'm usually really strict with my diet, but since my birthday is Friday, I may splurge a little and get a mocha frappaccino from Starbucks and an apple fritter from the bakery by my house. Normally I would NEVER do that, but it's kind of my last hurrah before my revision surgery lol

    Sweeteners after gastric sleeve

Thank you!!! I just took it a few days ago and thought it was time I updated my profile pic lol

    Sweeteners after gastric sleeve

I use monk fruit sweetener. Tastes sweeter than sugar but is recommended for those who are diabetic, on keto and low carb diets, and have had bariatric surgery. I love it, and I use it very sparingly, so it lasts a loooong time.

Hungry and Failing, 11 days Post-op

I was told to make sure I ate 6 times per day, every 2 hours until bed. Especially the first 8 weeks. Then I stretched it to every 3-4 hours 4x per day, and now it's been firm at every 4 hours. It takes time, so be patient and stay away from the junk food. Clear it all out of your house. If you live with others that eat it, ask them to keep their snacks in their rooms or in a container that you can't get to until you have your mind and body trained to not go for the junk. Keep a lot of healthy snacks around. I ate sugar free tropical popsicles until I was able to get myself under control. I also ate fruit and love making fruit smoothies with my greens in them.
  24. Hun, you have to eat. There are some great examples on here of different bariatric meal plans and guidelines that you could maybe pick from. If your surgeon literally said "eat whatever you want" then you might have to do some research on your own. Right now, your body is starving. So start off slow. Try drinking 3 protein shakes per day and maybe some protein water or protein gatorade or protein juice. Most important is getting in your protein and hydration. Try that for a week or 2, then go down to 2 shakes per day and add in a meal of maybe hummus and avocado spread, or refried beans, or cottage cheese. After 2 weeks, I was having a tbsp of hummus and a tbsp of avocado spread for a meal. After another week, go down to 1 shake and add scrambled egg, greek yogurt, and some soft (steamed) veggies like green beans, peas, carrots, or broccoli and cauliflower. By week 5, you can add in some chicken (it's a slider food, so don't over do it), black beans, cheeses, soft fruits (raspberries, blueberries, strawberries, blackberries, etc). Banana is you really want, but those can be higher in carbs, so go very easy on them. By week 6, you can eat normally, but you tastes will likely change, and things you liked and tolerated before may be different now. So go slowly when trying new foods. This was the plan I followed. I also got a food scale to measure out my portion sizes until I learned to eyeball it and tell just by looking roughly how much I could have of something. You can do this...just go slow, do some research, and ask all the questions you want. That's why we're here
