Even those of us who have been here a while can mess up...
SleeveToBypass2023 posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I first came to this board in March of 2022. I had my 1st surgery (sleeve) in May 2022. I had my revision to bypass (due to A LOT of complications with the sleeve) in June of 2023. Since then I have been complication free. But I was struggling to maintain my weight. I was put on a diet and exercise regimen to gain and then maintain my weight. Well, my metabolism finally sorted itself out, but I wasn't paying attention. I was supposed to weigh myself once a week to see how things are going. I went 4 weeks without weighing myself. And I was just eating whatever I wanted in hopes I would gain. And boy oh boy, I did gain. I went from 176 to 190 in 5 weeks. That shocked me, because I wanted to get to 180 - 183. Now I have to stop eating willy nilly, get my diet back on track, and focus more on my workouts. I became lax with what I needed to do and I found myself going back to old eating habits. Examples include eating whatever I wanted, even when it went against my diet. Not working out as much as I was supposed to because I was tired or didn't feel like it. Eating when I was bored. Eating something because it's there, not because I was hungry. Grazing all day and night, which was ALWAYS my issue. I'm telling you all this because I've seen so many posts where some of you guys really beat yourself up for messing up. You're afraid you'll undo all your progress. I admit, that has creeped into my mind a bit, but I remind myself that I know what to do and what not to do. I know how to get back on track. And I know how to give myself grace while still holding myself accountable. It's just a matter of doing it. So I'm going to course correct, get back to the proper diet and exercise routine, and really work on my eating habits. Just know that EVERYONE can slip up. It's not the end of the world....even if it feels like it is. Just own up to your mistakes, correct your actions, eat and exercise properly, and it'll all be ok. And with that, I need to go work out. Have a good one, and wish me luck that I get this sorted. -

Thank you so much, guys. I love that this is a safe space to speak our truths about this surgery. So many people think it's a miracle cure, and it's not. We have to do the work. It really is just a tool for us to use while we do the work. You guys have been so supportive. Thank you so much. I'm going to go back to weighing once per week, meal prepping again, sticking to my diet, and start back with my work out plan. I'll work to lose 10 pounds, to get back to the weight I'm happiest at. You all are awesome!!! -
What Are Some Things That Surprised You After Surgery?
SleeveToBypass2023 replied to Beks18's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
What surprised me was all of the food allergies I got after my surgery. I never had ANY, and now I'm lactose intolerant, allergic to peanuts, and DEATHLY allergic to shellfish. I also hate the constipation. No matter what I eat or how much I drink, I have to take Miralax every morning and sometimes at night, too. And when it's REALLY bad (as in, I haven't pooped in 4 or more days) I have to take a stool softener and laxative to get things moving. I use to poop everyday with no issues. Now...I have ALL the issues. -
Goal Weight
SleeveToBypass2023 replied to Bypass2Freedom's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My initial goal weight was 200 pounds. I hit that and thought "I'd like to be in ONEderland so I'm gonna keep going" and I got to my new goal weight of 190. Then I dropped well below that, gained the excess back, and I'm at 190 again. I need to lose about 7 or 8 pounds to get back into "wiggle room territory" and maintain it. But yes, I definitely had a secret goal that i never thought I would see lol -
Treated myself to new hair!
SleeveToBypass2023 replied to Bypass2Freedom's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
When I had my surgery, I had long straight (with a slight wave to it) hair. After the surgery, I treated myself to a haircut (and I got it cut layered, which I normally don't do) and when I did, my hair literally curled lol I always knew I had wavy hair, but I had no idea it had so much curl lol People keep asking if I got a perm and I say no. But I don't think they believe me lol -
Head Hunger!!
SleeveToBypass2023 replied to Bessieboop1981's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did super well with not paying attention to the head hunger, but in the last 3 months it's come roaring back. It's super hard to ignore sometimes. When that happens, I try to have smaller meals more often and add an extra snack. It's been a while since my surgery, and while I can't eat like I used to, I can eat larger meals now. And when the head hunger hits, I try to "fool" my brain into thinking I'm eating more when I'm actually eating the same amount but broken up into smaller portions so my brain sees me eating again and again and thinks I'm eating more. It sounds weird, but for me it actually works. And I prioritize protein (some days I hit 100g of protein) because it fills me up and keeps me full longer. -
Are You Happy That You Had Surgery?
SleeveToBypass2023 replied to Beks18's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I am...now. I had a sleeve in 2022 and had SO many complications and I was miserable. I had a revision to bypass in 2023 and honestly, it's been amazing. I 100% love that I had the revision. I recommend the bypass to everyone. It literally solved all my issues. And I'm so thankful that I got my life back. I take meds for severe anxiety, for MS, and for lupus. The only real issue with meds are extended release with the bypass. But if you can find a way around that then you'll be fine. -
So unmotivated to do anything, but frustrated that I'm not doing anything!!!
SleeveToBypass2023 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The title pretty much sums it up. I keep thinking about the workouts I need to do, the walks I need to take, the beginners pilates and yoga I need to start....and I honestly just don't feel like it. I WANT to do it and I don't feel like it at the same time. I have no idea how that works exactly, but here we are. My husband thinks it might be a bit of depression because I started a GoFundMe to raise the funds I need to complete my certifications to move up at work and get better pay. I've asked everyone I know to please share it where they can (I have NOT asked anyone I personally know to donate, but the more it's shared, the better the chances of hitting the goal) but there's been NO movement on it at all. I'm not sure if it's being shared or not and I really hate having to make it to begin with. My husband thinks being so bummed about that is affecting everything else, including doing my hair (I usually at the very least maintain it, but now I just throw it in a pony tail or headband and call it good) and working out. I'm not usually a depressed person so I'm not super familiar with how it feels. But it does make sense. I'm more motivated to get stuff taken care of professionally, but I know I can't let my health slip. Any suggestions on how I can get my motivation back? Anyone else experience anything like this? -

I can't use any student loans for these certifications. I tried a loan and my credit isn't good enough. Part of the reason I want to get the certifications is so I can make more money and repair my credit. And also to catch up on bills and finally build my nest egg back up. My husband is disabled and I'm the main breadwinner, so this is REALLY important. I don't have anything left to sell, so the crowd funding is all I have left to try. But I'm not going to let it get to me. Or at least, I'm going to try not to. I'm going on a hike in a little while and then I'm going to take a long shower and take a nap. And then I'm going to spend the rest of the day chillaxing and watching true crime on youtube. -

SleeveToBypass2023 replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm just so frustrated. I have so many things I want to do and complete and accomplish. My GoFundMe has had zero traction (not sure if it's even being shared, tbh), money is so tight, and there's just no wiggle room right now. I need to get these certifications to move up and make more money, but I don't currently make enough to be able to do that, so I'm stuck at the wage I'm currently at. It's enough to get by and pay the bills, but there's NOTHING left over to pay for the things I need to get ahead and do better. UGH....... I made myself work out yesterday and today, and even though I didn't want to, I did it anyway. And I honestly felt a little better. I'm prepping some meals that way I can just grab them and go and not worry about it. I definitely still take care of my hygiene and I'm completely safe (and will stay that way). -

@SpartanMaker situational depression sounds about right. I've never had depression, so what you said makes sense. Thank you so much for what you said, and for the tips. @BlondePatriotInCDA and @NickelChip, thank you so much for your posts. It helps knowing others feel this way and I'm not going crazy lol I knew posting here would help. When I tried to explain this to people in real life, they always say "what are you bummed about, you lost all the weight, you look great, and your career is on track. Why be upset about the funding? Just go along to get along." And it's SO frustrating. I want to move up in my career SO BAD and I hate that funding is stopping me. I want to tone up and build up my lean muscle, but it's frustrating that feeling upset about my inability to move forward professionally is potentially stopping me from caring about doing what I need to do healthwise. UGH..... -
Do I have a hernia?
SleeveToBypass2023 replied to ShoppGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Doesn't sound like a hernia. I had one that had to be surgically repaired. But I can do the same thing with my belly button that you were describing. No pain, just feels weird. First noticed it in the shower like a year ago when I was cleaning it. I never thought to ask the surgeon about it because it doesn't hurt or cause me any trouble. -
Revision, are things going as they should?
SleeveToBypass2023 replied to Kak7365's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had a sleeve in 2022 and had a revision to bypass in 2023 due to complications. I had little to no pain, I was up and moving around with ease, I've really had a great experience. And I've lost quite a bit of weight with the revision, even though that wasn't why I got the surgery to begin with. I have ZERO regrets. -

Tips on LBL/ Butt lift Recovery
SleeveToBypass2023 replied to Kingb40's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I'm right there with you when it comes to my arms. I need ALL the things done, but my first priorities are my neck and arms. I use Spanx right now to keep my skin in place on my thighs and stomach, so I'm not quite as worried about that right now. Second to be done will likely be a boob job (I used to be a DD, now I'm a small B). Third would likely be a tummy tuck, 4th would be a lower body lift (including butt lift). That's really the order based on priority for me. I have a ton of loose skin on my face, so I may look into that one day, but that would be well after everything else is done. -
I have no idea why I feel this way. I'm finally down to 1 more surgery (my hysterectomy) and then I'm totally done with hospitals. I'm healing well from my hernia surgery (even did a VERY light workout today for the first time in a month since I'm only 3 1/2 weeks out). I love my job, I'm feeling good, our rent is paid and we have plenty of food, car is running well, gas tank is full, finally stable again. Hubby and I get along great, kids and granddaughter are doing well. It's driving me nuts that I can't figure out why I feel down. Normally I'm excited about the new year. I don't get SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder), and I was fine up until about 2 days ago. I don't suffer from depression, so it's just really bugging me. What in the world do I have to be down about???

So a month and a half ago I started working 12 hour shifts overnight 3-4 days per week. Everyone said by now my body would adapt, but that hasn't happened. Instead, as time goes on, I'm getting more and more fatigued. I sleep all day and wake up feeling like I haven't slept at all. My joints hurt all the time. I talked to my doctor and my nutritionist and they said to get more rest, eat more dark leafy greens, increase my protein, and maybe drink some coffee. I've done all that and it's been no help at all. Then I was told "maybe you shouldn't do overnights" but that's not an option. It's a requirement for my job. Energy drinks don't work on me (I'm not caffeine sensitive so no matter how much I drink of it, I don't get any kind of a boost) and b-12 doesn't do anything for me, either. I'm at a loss now and I was hoping some of you might have some suggestions. Thanks in advance!!! -

SleeveToBypass2023 replied to Bypass2Freedom's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Yep, I have been getting it for MONTHS. It drives me nuts. I'm aware I look too thin. I'm trying to fix that. Their comments don't help at all. -
What is even happening right now??!?!

In the last 3 weeks, I've been dealing with crazy weird constipation. But my poop isn't hard, it's really soft. Just won't come out. TONS of gas. Bloated stomach. I was diagnosed with IBS-C about 7 months after my initial surgery (sleeve). I was on the 145mcg dose of Linzess for about a year and a half, and between that and Miralax (and every once in a blue moon, a combo laxative/stool softener) I was very regular. Pooped either every day or every other day for the most part. No bloated stomach. No real gas. Then 3 weeks ago, the constipation just went crazy and got really weird. Gas has been the most insane of my life. Stomach super bloated and uncomfortable. Linzess was increased to 290mcg and has done NOTHING. Miralax was increased. Added more Fiber to my diet and even a fiber supplement. Even started taking more laxative/stool softener meds. Added prune juice. And still, I've had a good poop exactly twice in 3 weeks and 3 small poops. That's it. Nothing is working. I drink 100 fl oz daily. I don't drink soda or anything with sugar. I honestly don't know what else to do. Any advice or suggestions? Oh, I've also added magnesium. I tried Colon Broom. Literally....nothing. I JUST WANNA POOP!!!!! -

I sent a message to my doctor in the patient portal an she said that we can discuss progesterone vs testosterone and see what will work better. She said she "might" be willing to try progesterone for 3 months and see how it goes, but if it doesn't really help, then we would need to switch to testosterone. So at least she's willing to talk it over and possibly give it a try. -

SleeveToBypass2023 replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Do you take any testosterone? I was told to take testosterone compound cream with the estrogen but not to take progesterone. I think maybe I need to go see my doctor again and ask about getting progesterone before we discuss paying out of pocket for a compound testo cream when I may not need it. -

Yes I was told to because I'm on my feet most of my shift. I was trying to gain weight and it was good for a bit but has started going back down again, so I was told to cut out the working out for now.
