Anyone getting banded in September/October/November?
health4life replied to a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Just got banded September 2nd. -
You did quite well. I wouldn't have been as kind. I would have called her out on it. The saying is still true "misery loves company". Don't fall for that cheap trick. Hang in there and keep your goal in the forefront of your mind. :tongue2:

Share ideas, What did you eat today ?
health4life replied to kimmom's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
The chicken and black bean enchilada casserole sounds scrumptious. Can you give the recipe? Thanks. -
Of course my husband who is my #1 supporter, my 16 year old daughter and made her promise not to tell anyone, 1 of my brothers and my godsister. I couldn't tell my parents cause my mother is so fearful and I didn't want her to have that worry on my surgery day. I have 2 step children who are on their own and I chose not tell them because I don't want them telling their Mom cause then she would tell everyone she knew.

Congrats!!! Glad everything turned out well for you. Now for the most exciting journey, weight loss! :tongue2:

Recovery Question
health4life replied to CURIOUS CAREN's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Remember, you just had MAJOR surgery. Although it's outpatient, you went under a general anestesia and that's major. I pushed myself. I was banded on the 2nd, rested on the 3rd, on the 4th went to the office and felt I had over done it. I'm self employed and do hair and makeup for local mortuaries. It's hard for me to turn those jobs down because I don't have a backup and I take pride in my work and don't really want anyone doing work for me. I also own an apartment complex and needed to be there to sign new leases. All in all, it was too much. I say you need a good 5-7 days recovery time; but that's up to the individual. Congrats on your surgery. Check in when you're able to. -
Unable to burp or belch
health4life replied to SassCie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey, I was banded on September 2, 2008 (a couple of days ago) and I am experiencing not being able to burp although I feel the burp is there. I want to burp as I feel it is a normal function of our bodies. Has anyone had this issue shortly after being banded and if and when did it pass and you began burping again? :tt2: -
Any September Banders?

Don't eat or drink past midnight and pray for a successful surgery. Best wishes to you. -
Okay, thanks! Did you find walking to be the best remedy for gas? I'm struggling with that now, 2 days after surgery.

[/url] Hey all you September Samurai's, I was banded today by Dr. Curry in Cincinnati. It took all of 15 minutes for him to perform the surgery and all in all I feel pretty good. A little sore and dry heaving, but everything turned out great! Now I'm ready to get this weight off once and for all. I am soooo happy this has finally been made a reality. Bless all of you coming after me. Take care and lets get this party started.

Is the Couch to 5k best to start 2 weeks after being banded? I was banded on Sept. 2nd and would like to join this program, but I'm too sore to start now.

I would say to stick with whatever your Dr. said to eat. If you are going to eat any fruits, the lowest ones in Sugars are your berries. (raspberries, rhubarb, lemon and limes in small amounts) I would squeeze lemons in hot Water and drink in the evening prior to going to bed when I was on my pre op diet. I also ate skinless boneless chicken breast and tuna, both low carbs. I hope this helps. Best wishes.

I followed the Medifast plan as closely as I could. There towards the end, closer to my surgery, I have skinless boneless chicken breast and tuna and it only took my Dr. 15 minutes to band me because my liver shrunk and wasn't in his way. I think the key is "low fat, low carb". Best wishes to you. Oh, and I lost 13 lbs on that diet.

Olive Garden NOT accomadating!!
health4life replied to MeganMatters's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I don't think I will EVER whip out that lapband card to show anyone. I will order from the regular menu and immediatly ask for a to go box. That's probably the best way to save your face. Too bad that they couldn't accomodate you though. -
Revenesqued, You CAN do it! Keep your eyes on the prize. Trust me, I felt the way you are feeling right now and my husband encouraged me over and over. Just "forgetting" it would make you a quitter. You don't want to be a quitter. We are in this to WIN and LIVE! Best Wishes to you!

what foods are you choosing for the last time?
health4life replied to nayray13's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I didn't have what you would call a last supper or something I knew I wouldn't be able to have after surgery. However, my husband and I went to the State fair and I had what I wanted. The day prior to me starting my pre op diet I had my nephew over and he wanted meatloaf, cabbage and mac & cheese, I made it for him and the was the last time I ate something decent. I would have much rather went to a steak house, but I didn't. I'm looking to achieve the prize of weight loss and it's going to be a way of life. I wish everyone well and just keep in mind the goal you want to achieve. -
Congratulations a2bachik.I didn't sleep too well either last night. I hope to be able to tonight though. Let's get this show on the road.

Hello all. I had surgery Tuesday, Sept. 2nd. It took all of 15 minutes before the Dr. came out to tell my husband he was finished. Fortunately, my liver was flat with NO fat and he was able to maneuver around well to get the band in place. Other than incision pain and a litter soreness from within, I feel pretty good. I am still taking a pain elixir and have a dramamine patch behind my ear for motion sickness since I have to drive almost 2 hours home. I have only drank water, chicken broth, sf jello juice and 100% juice diluted with water, chewable vitamins and gas ex. Fortunately, I don't have much gas. I'm just a little swollen in my stomach which is normal and some mucus coming out of my throat from being on the ventalator. The people at the surgery center called this morning to check on me and thought I sounded great and wanted to make sure my incisions are clean and not leaking and that I'm up and walking around. I thought that was realy nice of them. I'm ready now to start losing weight and will begin an exercise program after 2 weeks. I am so excited to begin this journey and think it's important to be on threads like this to be able to share experiences and keep one another supported. I pray for all that will have this surgery after me and that theirs will be as successful as mine. Thanks for starting this thread.

I know. My husband said he was shocked when the Dr. came out and told him he was done. I guess a big part of it was my liver was shrunk really well. That's why it's so important for people to stick to the pre op diet as much as possible. I know it's hard to do cause that medifast diet is not good at all. I ended up eating skinless boneless chicken breast and tuna which I knew had little to no fat. That's the thing most people have to realize is that if you deviate, it needs to be foods that won't add fat to your diet thus creating potential problems with your liver being fatty. I'm just glad it's over and I'm looking forward to eating pureed food after 48 hours. Let's keep in touch to keep us motivated to lose weight.

gg, Glad you're doing well. I had my surgery yesterday and other than the sore incisions, I feel rather great. I had the nausea too after surgery. As soon as I got into the car to go the hotel, I thought I would throw up. Got to the hotel and started dry heaving. I just knew I would throw up, but thank God I didn't. How are you feeling today? Let's get this weight loss party on and poppin. -
Lap Band Surgery Day Stories
health4life replied to pennyt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My band day story goes like this. Upon waking I did some last minute work, took my dog to board, went to the bank then got in the car to head to cincinnati for surgery and got into the office at 12:55. I had a 1 hour 50 minute drive to JourneyLite, filled out my paperworkupon arrival , changed into my hospital garb which was a challenge because of how big that gown was and all the snaps on it, went out and got all set up for surgery because they were running ahead of schedule, called my husband in to kiss me and off to the operating room. I got over on to the surgery table asked to breath into a mask and then was waking up in recovery. I ate ice chips, took meds, walked over to a chair, then to the car and off to the hotel. Took pain meds at hotel, walked back and forth in the room, then began dry heaving like I would throw up. Nothing came up, but I sure took medicine to keep from having that nausea. Continued to take pain meds throughout the night. My husband said the Dr. was done with my surgery in about 15 mins.Dr. said my liver was nice and flat from pre op diet, I was out of there before 5. At 6:03 a.m. the next day, I am feeling good. Just sore around incisions. I'm glad this is over and now I can begin the weight loss process and will keep it off FOREVER! Good luck to all of the others that will have this surgery after me. -
Thanks to everyone for your well wishes to me. I am up early and feel quite well with NO dry heaves!! For all of the surgeries after me, I pray the best for you!
