  1. Let's start a thread for posting your favorite tasting high protein drink. We have to get that protein in everyday and the more recipes for tasty drinks will add variety to a typically boring occasion. I have none, which is why I'm asking. Thanks for those who will post!

    Scared of a fill

I had my first fill on Monday, Sept. 29th, 4 weeks post op and although I was at the point that I felt I could eat a horse, I already had 0.6 cc's in my band and they added 3.2 cc's to give me a total restriction of 3.8 cc's. It didn't hurt at all and was quite cool to see my port on the monitor as I stood in front of the x-ray machine. There is really nothing to worry about. Best of luck to you!!!
  3. Hi Susan,

I had my first fill on Monday 9/29. It was a breeze! I now have 3.8 cc's in my band. You have nothing to worry about. Did I already tell you this. I feel I'm being repetative. Take care.

  4. Hi. I'm not sure if I responded to your message or not. I'm sorry...I just saw this. We are now 4 weeks post op and I feel really good. Just had my first fill on Monday. They added 3.2 cc's to give me a total of 3.8 cc's. It was a pretty cool experience to say the least. How are you doing? Have you had your first fill yet? Take care.

  5. Been banded since Sept 2nd which makes it 4 weeks tomorrow. Got my first fill Monday, Sept. 29th. Next one is scheduled for Nov. 1st.

    Anybody's spouse an "eating buddy"?

Your story sounds alot like mine. I gained over 100 lbs after marriage (15 yrs). My DH travels quite a bit and we went everywhere together and my mentality was that I was going to eat good and at places not known to my city. BIG mistake! It's amazing how fast it comes on you and one day you look at yourself and say, "I'm fat". I contemplated surgery a few years ago and thought it was for people who are weak and have no will power and it's just a cop out. Well, tomorrow I will celebrate 4 weeks having my band. I have only 1 regret...that I didn't do it sooner. I have a VERY supportive husband and and he's not picky and will eat whatever I prepare. He just eats more. He's a big and very tall man so naturally he eats more than me and my issue was I tried to keep up with him. Now I eat with him and quit as soon as I am satisfied and let him eat whats left from my plate. He is very shocked and his comment was, in the past you would have eaten the appetizers and your meal. I am very cautious of what I eat because I do not want to experience PB'ing or sliming and so far so good. If we had the willpower to lose on our own, none of us would be posting here. Thank god for the genius man/woman who created the "lapband". Whatever decision you make, I'm sure it will be the right one. Sounds like you have support at home and definitly do here. We're all in the same boat, trying to reach the same destination...Healthy Skinny Island. Best wishes.

    First Fill......I am freaked

I saw your post last night and knew I was getting my first fill on Monday. Well, sweetie, you are freaked about NOTHING! It was much easier than a shot, blood draw and the pain after surgery. I had the fluro fill since it was my first. The NP poked with her fingers around my post incision and found it, put me in front of the x-ray machine and showed me where it was on the screen. It was quite cool to say the least. She got me positioned just right, sprayed me with the numbing spray (feels like an ice cube pressed against your skin too long), stuck the needle with the saline solution in it and began to fill, I drank some of that barium stuff (taste like Maalox or Mylanta) and could see it go into my pouch it went up too far like it was going to come out my throat and she said that was reflux, took some saline out and when the barium went down, took the needle out, said she put 32cc's in my band which gave me a total of 38cc's, put a bandaid on and off to the nutritionist I went. I felt so stupid for how I was freaking out so bad about it. I can't describe how easy it really was. All I can say is don't waste your time being freaked. It's a TRUE waste of time. You'll do just fine. And oh, by the way I HATE needles so I didn't watch her stick me and barely felt pressure. Good luck.

    Couch to 5k.....come join me!!

I started the Couch to 5K today and if I didn't have to quit to go to the beauty shop I would have made it. I only had a few more minutes. It really stretched me, but I can see how fun this is gonna be. I'm looking forward to building my endurance with this program. I'm a little sore in my hips and legs. I actually broke a sweat and it takes alot for me to sweat. Body pump also makes me sweat. I will get back into the water next week in addition to the Couch to 5K. I will also get my first band adjustment on Monday so I am about to be skinny-mini-me. I'll check back next week when I continue week 1 day 2. Until then...everyone enjoy your weekend.
  9. Wow! So sorry to hear of the trouble you had. I was sooooo afraid of throwing up after my surgery. Thank God all I did was dry heave. That was bad enough. Trust me, I took that nausea medicine every 4 hours just to keep from throwing up. It also helped me to sleep. I hope you get to feeling better.

    High Protein Dessert

If you have a whole foods market, they have it by all the yogurts. I bought som Fage brank on Oikos brand the other day. I sliced fresh strawberries, 1/4 c granola with dried fruit, 6 walnuts with 1 sm container of Fage 2% greek yogurt and added some spenda and yum yum yum. It's a meal in and of itself and satisfiys any sweet craving you might have.

    how do you use humas?

I buy whole wheat tortillas, spread hummus and roll it up and eat it. Nice snack. As someone else said, you can use it for veggie dip, pita chip dip or by itself. In New York City there is a vegan restaurant that serves a meal that has hummus as a base, brown rice on top of it and a vegan style chicken on top of the brown rice and it is WONDERFUL!!! I didn't miss the meat at all at this restaurant.
  14. I did an experiment with making a Protein shake and it was a real winner. 1 scoop strawberry Champion Whey (low carb) 120 cal, 1.5g fat, 3.5 carbs, 23g protein, 3.5 fiber 8 oz skim milk 1 individual container Fiber One Strawberry yogurt (optional) 80 cal, 4g protein, 19 carbs, 5g fiber frozen strawberries (4) 1/2 banana (optional) It was very good and tastes like a Strawberry smoothie without the banana yet filled with protein. With the banana taste like a Strawberry/Banana smoothie.
  15. Luluc, I tried your Protein shake this morning prior to my walk. WOW! I love it...thanks! My husband liked it too. :crying:

I've NEVER been a runner. Is there anyone on here who also never ran until now with this program and actually achieved it? What all is needed to begin this program?

  21. I am 2 weeks post op and my incisions are not 100% healed. I have my first fill scheduled for September 29th. Is this too soon? I hate needles and I'm concerned about the pain and the amount of time it takes? I'm not tryin to be poked and poked like I've seen others. I'm just not havin it. Help, I'm Starving!!!

When are you at least able to have pureed foods? My Dr. allows pureed foods 24-48 hours after surgery for his patients. I understand that all Dr.'s are different, but in my opinion, this seems extreme to me. The objective first is to heal, secondly to be satisfied, not necessarily full. Check with your Dr.

Turkey Day - at my house?!?!

Maybe chopped up small dark meat turkey on top of Mashed Potatoes and gravy, Sweet potatoes, moist dressing, brocolli casserole, sweet potato or pumpkin pie filling, leave the crust (sugar free of course), Jello. Of course, I'm old school too, NO ONE would force this on me. I wouldn't do it, but you're not me. I have NO fear of saying NO and dare you to ask again. Those are just a few things off the top of my head. Congrats on your marriage.
  24. I know that some patients suffer shoulder and neck pain post op, but for those who had surgery 6 mos ago or longer who intially had this pain, when did it go away, if it did and was it permanent or does it recur? It would be nice to give those that are either in the process of getting the surgery or for those that have already had it and are experiencing this sort of pain, hope of this passing. HELP!!!

Shoulder and neck pain 6 mos after surgery???

I had LB surgery on September 2nd. Hmmm, I'll have to ask my Dr. about my tubing. I have gotten the pain during drinking or eating and not necessarily too much. It's really annoying. I haven't had it as bad lately though. I hope I'm getting over it. I haven't had a fill yet and I'm praying it doesn't occur after that. I hope you get to feeling better.
