  1. I am so thankful! I hope everyone gets this amazing experience !
  2. Merill: I cannot wait till you get to experience all these amazing things! I was so focused on the surgery, I gave little thought to the wonderful changes i could expect afterwards. I feel like my old self…from like 25 years ago.
  3. 🎊🎈🎉Congratulations!!!🎉🎈🎊 That is quite an accomplishment! 🎉🎉🎉YAY YOU🎉🎉🎉
  4. I am experiencing new NSV victories every day! 🤗 Yesterday, dh and I went to the beach…he has to find a new boat slip. I walked around the cutest little town (3000 steps) and did not have to sit and get my breath because of that damned hiatal hernia. 🎉🎉🎉🎉 THEN, we went to the beach! On memorial day weekend I couldn’t take 3 steps without being short of breath. Yesterday we walked on the beach for 1 mile and I didn’t Have to stop at all. Additionally, usually on any walk prior to surgery, my heart rate would be 138 when exercising to my max, and now I only get to 116! I am beyond thrilled! My surgeon told me I would absolutely be able to run again after recovering. 🤗

Hi, Whitney: congrats on your surgery! You are on your way! I’ve had 4 c-sections. Abdominal surgery feels like you have been whacked in the stomach with an axe…multiple times I found ice and walking to help. In fact, if I wasn’t walking, I was icing for this surgery, which was laparoscopic, I found the abdominal pain to be minimal. BUT, my surgeon had told me that after 4 c-sections, this procedure would be a walk in the park for me. I did ice a couple of night. The place where my gallbladder exited my body was more sore than the others. remember, walking, ice, rest, take things slowly…none of us are Olympic athletes, and slow and steady is best.

Decadron for nausea. I was practically debilitated the the nausea the morning after surgery. The surgeon told them to start me on Decadron and instantly I had relief. There are some forward thinking physicians who think that some nausea is caused by inflammation. I do not metabolize anesthesia well, and the decadron made all the difference.

Congratulations!!!🎉🍾🎈🎊 to you . And best wishes on your journey! my experience has been similar. This is without a doubt one of the best things I have EVER done for myself! fourteen days post op and I feel like I’m 25 years younger (I’m 67). dr. Pilati (WakeMed) ordered my meds 3 weeks prior to surgery. My hospital experience could not have been more amazing! Anti nausea patch, nerve block on both sides of abdomen, non narcotic pain meds one hour prior to surgery: I NEVER needed any pain meds. Nerve block lasted 3 days. No gas, just nausea and I was immediately given a steroid/anti nausea cocktail (decadron) that was a miracle drug. My bp is normally 156/99….in the hospital it was 188/96. This morning at my pcp visit it was 104/65! My bp meds have been halved. I’ve been on them for 22 years since my twins were born…post partum hypertension. I start puréed foods tomorrow. I am perfectly satisfied right now on liquids. I’m not hungry, I am down 23 lbs, I feel fabulous. Right now, I am remembering how little food mattered to me most of my life and I am ecstatic. I wish that everyone could have the same experience I’m having. this is life changing.

    blood pressure changes

This is such a helpful thread. When I was in the hospital (2 weeks ago) my bp was 188/96. I’ve taken meds since my twins were born 21 years ago and my bp went up but never came down. I take 2 meds. They discontinued the med with the diuretic the day after surgery because obviously they are trying to prevent dehydration. I was instructed to purchase a blood pressure monitor and keep track of my bp when I went home, and to let my PCP know when I saw it drop so that my dosage could be changed. Since yesterday, I have been extremely fatigued after feeling like the energizer bunny since surgery. My bp was 126/79……😳 Same today and still tired. I see my PCP tomorrow morning at 8:30. My pcp did tell me in April that she and my surgeon were communicating about my bp and the fact that my meds would be getting adjusted. I am so thrilled about this! 🤗

    YOU GOT THIS!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
  11. 🤔 That was 2 weeks ago tonight. I went to my nail place and had my nail color removed. My husband and I watched TWO episodes of Magnificent Century. I packed a bag the morning of surgery, showered, used eyebrow color and under eye concealer (in case they misplaced me and thought I should be in the morgue 😅😂🤣😅😂). I was due at the hospital at 8:20 and we got there at 8. They called me back at about 9:25.

    Thing I miss most

Not trying to be flippant, but I truly miss NOTHING. I am 2 weeks post op tomorrow and I have never felt better. Nothing tastes as good as THIS feels!

Mine was June 8…gastric bypass. I did modified liquid (read occasional cheating) starting 3 weeks before. More modified liquid (almost no cheating) 2 weeks before. 100% compliant liquid -not even the thought of cheating- one week before. Two days before surgery, it was difficult, but I attribute of that to nerves. i am 2 weeks post op tomorrow. liquids since June 10 when I got home. I’m not hungry, and I feel better than I have in 25 years. I am meeting my liquid and Protein goals. good luck to you!
  15. My experience has been completely different from the ones I read above. I’m in Wake County NC, and if coming here for surgery is an option, I would suggest exploring that option. I began the process in January with research and my surgery was June 8, 2022. My initial ZOOM consult with the Patient Administrator and the surgeon lasted 2 hours: 30 minutes with PA and 90 minutes with the surgeon. I went through EXTENSIVE pre-procedure testing: physically and psychologically. A massive hiatal hernia was diagnosed, and I was screened by a cardiologist (also extensive) before everything was sent to my insurance company. I also had a sleep study and a CPAP machine was prescribed. I went to a nutrition introduction and the nutritionist has been there since February to answer every question. I had a nutrition meeting 1 week prior to surgery, and the nutritionist conducted another class while I was in the hospital and came to see me 2 mornings in the hospital and I have another class in a week. The hospital and practice I used are CIGNA Bariatric Centers For Excellence. They practice ERAS- Enhanced Recovery After Surgery. I was never given narcotics…only a nerve block and two mild pain meds prior to surgery. I did not need any pain medication either post op or when I came home. The care I received was absolutely top notch from beginning to end. The hospital staff was superb. If this is an option for anyone, I recommend it without hesitation. I am 67 years old and I intend to lose 100 lbs. i underwent a hernia repair for a massive hiatal hernia, my gallbladder was removed and I had gastric bypass. Hope this helps someone.
  16. This has been me! Surgery was 2 weeks ago tomorrow. I can home and took things slowly and wisely. About days post op, I felt like superwoman. I was getting out of bed at 5am, and I could go till midnight without stopping. Today, I’m exhausted. My blood pressure is dropping, and it’s probably time to call my PCP and let her know so meds can be adjusted. My bp in the hospital was 188/89 and today it’s 129/76.

You will be great! Definitely be more excited than anything else! I was mostly excited but apprehensive as well which I think is normal. My entire hospital experience was so positive and so amazing, I wish the same for you. I am not even 2 weeks post op and I can say with confidence that this is one of the best things I have ever done for myself. Best wishes!

Congratulations! Good luck on your journey! I found the pain almost nonexistent as well. I’ve had 4 c-sections and my surgeon told me that this would be a walk in the park after 4 c-sections. He was absolutely correct. I never took anything for pain, and after leaving the hospital, I didn’t need anything for nausea.

I keep wondering if I am doing the right thing. I keep worrying about them not being able to go in laparoscopic and having a huge scar. I’m scared something will go wrong and I won’t be there for my daughter. Lord please get me through this.
