  1. I have lost 30 pounds, and have 70 to go. So far I’m okay and the loose skin issue has not appeared. It will, but it hasn’t yet. I’ve decided to deal with it when the time comes. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I applaud you! I am almost 1 month post op and I’ve ‘sucked it up’ a lot! I think it has a fair amount to do with hormones. And the other huge changes our bodies are undergoing. I’m finding that it’s a process. One step forward some days, two steps back on others. The spikes seem to be less spikey and severe as time goes in. I am beginning to understand why some people say it’s a full 6-8 weeks till they feel like themselves again. I have days when I feel like I have unlimited energy, and then I have days when I don’t want to move. Good luck and continued success!

Congratulations! I’m walking and running without knee pain, and it feels like a miracle. I am experiencing something similar regarding energy. I’ve had to be very kind to me regarding getting out every day and doing 3-4 miles. That’s just not happening right now. The heat is an issue, bp meds are an issue, energy is an issue. 🤷🏻‍♀️ It’s a process. It will sort itself out. I’m not even 1 month post op, and I’m trying to be patient. Good luck to you!

Good point. My doctor had a month’s prescription for Protonix filled prior to surgery. It’s an acid blocker and I will take it at least for another few weeks.

You are losing fluid and electrolytes with diarrhea. Try sugar free ice pops as water may be exacerbating the diarrhea. Take sips of water if you do have water…tiny sips. Replenishing fluids takes time. Don’t overdo. Don’t go out in the heat. Be kind to yourself and rest. Maybe 1/2 an immodium? Also, sip weak decaf tea. good luck !

Your points are very well made. I’ve been walking since 6 hours post op. That was 3 weeks ago. I’m doing 2-3 miles a day now. Got the ok to start running using common sense. And I’m going to start Pilates. Everyone is different…what’s good for one person is not necessarily good for another. Everyone must listen to their body.

I’ve been walking from the day of surgery and seriously walking (2 -3 miles) since Day 8 post op. Doctor cleared me yesterday for running (flat surface, no hills, don’t overdo), and Pilates. It’s a process. Every day means progress. you’ll see. 😊

As long as it’s not swollen, red, oozing or warm, the itching is a sign of healing most likely. If the itching is that troublesome, you can ask your doc is maybe you can sprinkle a small amount of boric acid powder on it. There used to be a product called BFI powder and it was great but the company went out of business. In the alternative, ice packs may give you relief.

    August Surgery Buddies!

And you will! I was so focused on the actual procedure, I forgot to think about the positive outcome! Don’t cheat yourself out of that experience! can’t wait to read your post op story!

    August Surgery Buddies!

Congratulations! I’m 3 weeks out from bypass and I feel like a new person! You will not regret doing this. It is the best thing I have ever done for me! I’ve lost 30 lbs, and I feel amazing! I had NO pain post op. No gas, no pain, I never needed pain meds, and I am not hungry. I could not be happier! You are almost there! Yay, you!!! I also had 2 months of pre-op testing for insurance and 2 weeks while they review everything. My insurance picked up 97% of the bill which was $70,000. It was ALL worth it!

Me too. This was so much less pain and did than I expected. I never took pain meds in the hospital or at home.

What to eat in the soft food stage?

I had some hummus yesterday. Used a teaspoon and had the smallest amount. It was delicious.

So do mine. I have a nutrition class to attend today devoted solely to soft foods.

    Gastric bypass

Hi! I will be 68 in August. My gastric bypass was almost 3 weeks ago. This is the best thing I have ever done for myself. Already my bp meds have been cut in half, and I am walking 3 miles a day. I also had my gallbladder removed and a massive hiatal hernia was repaired

That is very stringent. Although, not drinking clear protein drinks wouldn’t bother me…I couldn’t even get a sip of those down. My advice is always to err on the side of compliance. Too many people play fast and free with the guidelines and run into issues. You are almost there! Good for you! I found that the stricter guidelines helped me meet my hydrating liquid and protein goals. Also, beef broth (low sodium) was a godsend for me. Just rest for now, your stomach is still healing! ❤️

At least the 30th is this week…although I know it’s not much help. It does seem extreme to me, but what do I know? The post op eating criteria seems to be all over the place. Do you have a nutritionist who has been assigned to you?

Hi, there, NC girl! I have a former neighbor who had VSG done in 10/202- and after bumping down, she is now off her thyroid meds. My bp meds were halved last week after only 2 weeks post op. I have been on them for 21 years! We have been in the triangle for almost 2 years after 29 years in northern Virginia. We like it here, and are building in Emerald Isle because I must be near the ocean in the summer. Good luck to you!⛱

It’s a process, it sounds like you’ve figured it out! It’s a real learning curve, I’ve found, but not a difficult one. When I have been tired, or not as hydrated as I should be, I’ve been giving myself time to recoup with rest. I’m using the Baritastic App with the drink reminder set up to silently vibrate every 5 minutes to gauge my liquid intake and stay on top of it. I had tried to do it without he reminders but 5 minutes goes by too fast. Good luck and keep up the good work!🎉

I hear you. The 3 days before surgery which was 6/8, were the worst! Sugar free popsicles helped me a lot…right before and right after surgery.

Congratulations! Sounds like you are doing great! I started puréed yesterday. I’m meeting water and protein and thankfully it’s all been uneventful. I agree with you about walking and the scale. If I get my 10,000 steps in, the numbers go down. Good Luck! 🎉

I just finished 14 days of liquids. I did everything you did except s/f pudding because that wasn’t allowed till purée foods…which is where I am now. I did a cream of chicken soup and strained it, tomato soup, and I remain happy that I have no appetite or this could be a challenge. I’m bored with the choices but not hungry.
