    April 2022 Surgery Buddies

Thank you🤗 I’m hoping that this is the week I hear something! I only started thinking about this is January so it hasn’t really been that long, but I am so ready to GO! You sound very disciplined! Good for you! The waiting is easier to handle during the week because I’m at school. I AM concerned that Cigna might ding me with 3 months of weight loss management BUT that would put recovery for me over the summer, and I think I can handle the disappointment. Good luck and thank you for the encouragement. ❤️

Need a laugh? 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣 I’m waiting to hear from the surgeon’s office regarding my appointment and surgery date. 🤦🏻‍♀️ 🎉All my testing is complete. 🎉 🎉🎉They know I want 4/11🎉🎉- 🎉🎉a week from tomorrow🎉🎉 😩The waiting’s unbearable😩 I say that I’ve jumped through 804 hoops, given up half days, whole days, mornings, afternoons and I just want to know ‘when.’ I’m always very good about this kind of stuff. Just not today. Can anyone relate! SO………… Dh and I are in the car. And he knows it’s eating at me, and he says: “It’s like Dante’s 9 levels of hell, isn’t it?” And I laughed! 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂

    April 2022 Surgery Buddies

Hi, I think that nervous is just part of any surgery...I've had surgery before. What always amazes me is that one instant you are in the OR and you are counting backwards from 100 and maybe you've said '99' and the next instant, you are in recovery and you have no concept of how much time has elapsed. It just amazes me. Someone here (Goldengirl?) suggested FairLife protein shakes and I like them. I had purchased Premier Protein shakes at Costco, but I don't care for them.

I really like the Fairlife shakes. Someone here recommended them to me.

    April 2022 Surgery Buddies

I’m hoping to be on the 11th as well. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for that date. It gives me a week at home to recover during spring break. Nothing motivates me like the numbers in the scale going down, and I am really looking forward to that! Reading different topics helps to normalize this entire experience which takes away much of the stress. Good luck and welcome!

    April 2022 Surgery Buddies

Hi, Vivian…welcome and congrats on having a surgery date. My fingers are crossed hoping for April 11. Your emotions sound right on target. Right now I’m excited while I wait for a surgery, and very happy that all the pre-procedure tests are complete. i have a large hiatal hernia which means I’ll probably have RNY instead of VSG. Good luck, and I’m sure I’ll see you around here. There is great advice and support here.

    April 2022 Surgery Buddies

This is good advice. I now that many people will advise that the best thing to do is to stay out of the kitchen when you can, and I agree with that. I have stopped sitting at the kitchen table if i can sit elsewhere. I currently leave the table as soon as I am finished with whatever meal it is. My husband and the kids understand why I MUST do this. My kids are old enough to have researched and read up on bariatric surgery, and they found that extremely helpful. My husband has been doing the cooking for the past year as he works from home, and I am in school all day. Besides, he LOVES to cook dinner every night. Try to have your meal plans organized in your head. For your kids, have you thought about cooking their meals in batches ahead of time and and freezing them? I did that prior to dh taking over the cooking. I would spend one Saturday a month, I had disposable foil pans, aluminum foil, a sharpie, and maybe 4 or 5 favorite recipes that I knew would freeze well: sheet pan chicken, lasagne, chicken in barbecue sauce or whatever, ground beef, sauce and pasta....I would spend a day cooking, wrapping, marking what each one was, baking instructions, and freezing. You can search online for things you know your kids will eat. It kept me out of the kitchen when I was my most vulnerable: that part of the day when I am tired, hungry and was feeling the pressure to put a meal on the table. Hope this helps.

Cranky is completely normal...so is wanting to eat your arm for the first 3-4 days. 😲 It's the sugar withdrawal, the lack of carbs, and it sucks. 😂🤣😂😆Try not to think about it. 🤣😂🤣😂➡️➡️➡️➡️➡️➡️➡️➡️↩️ ➡️➡️➡️➡️➡️➡️➡️➡️➡️➡️➡️WORST ADVICE EVER!!!!!⬅️⬅️⬅️⬅️⬅️⬅️⬅️⬅️⬅️⬅️⬅️⬅️ It's a kind of 'take it an hour at a time or even 15 minutes at a time. The negative crap will pass - soon as the withdrawal is finished. You can do this! (THAT'S pretty worthless, too....I know!)

Congratulations on the surgery date! The liquid diet should get easier. Carbohydrates make you want more carbohydrates so being carb limited should become easier. good luck.

    liquid diet :( lol

Everything’s relative I guess. I am 220 now and NOT tall. We all have different weight milestones in our heads…I used to want to turn cartwheels if I got myself below 200. Invariably, I’d go back up, pass 200, pass my ‘old’ top weight, and crown an even higher number the new champion. 😩 I am not going to miss those experiences.

    liquid diet :( lol

I have a friend who was sleeved in October. She didn’t do two week liquid diet, and she didn’t give up caffeine. She was 221 lbs at surgery. She has dropped 80 lbs as of today. Her entire procedure was uneventful and her recovery was easy and without incident.
  20. I think that humor is an amazing coping mechanism. Unfortunately, many venues do not seem to agree. I DO think that laughter IS the best medicine in may many instances. I teach in a middle school...if I didn't find humor in almost everything, I would be very unhappy here. It's just the nature of my job. Love your name!

    April 2022 Surgery Buddies

I’m hoping for 4/7 or 4/11 and right now I am super excited. However, I do think that nervous is 100% understandable and I know that nervous will be down the road for me. Be extra nice to yourself…wow, it’s the day after tomorrow. Take deep breaths, focus on the present moment if you can. Good luck to you! ❤️

    April 2022 Surgery Buddies

I’m probably not one to give calming advice as I was completely freaked out over my Echo Stress Test…a bundle of nerves. That being said, when I received the list of pre-procedure tests and screenings, I felt somewhat overwhelmed. I’m not a list-maker, but I found that giving myself a few things to tackle everyday and crossing them off that day’s list, allowed me to have a sense of control. I have a really nice Vuitton agenda book that has sat unused. It is now my ‘surgery notebook.’ I write everything pertaining to this endeavor in that book. Any piece of information I need is in that agenda. That gives me a sense of control as well. This morning when I was freaking out while on my way to the stress test, I played my favorite playlist and did a lot of deep breathing. I’ve also cultivated a habit of being extra nice to me. Good luck to you. Take it one step at a time. You will do great.
