So, you are feeling well? Even with the hernia repair? I’m so happy for you! Keep me posted on how you are doing please. I’m going back and forth between waiting till school is out in June OR taking a surgery date earlier. It’s the hernia repair that is making me waver. Keep up the good work! ❤️

    Hianal Hernia Surgery

No, I’m still waiting on a surgery date. ☹️ The hernia was suspected by my surgeon and showed up in pre/procedure testing. I had been hoping for tomorrow, 4/11, as my surgery date, but obviously that is not going to happen. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’m thinking seriously of waiting till June 10th when school is done. I’m slightly apprehensive about piggybacking the hernia recovery with bypass recovery as my original plan was to return to school rather quickly (3-4 days) after both. Right now the ball is in the surgeon’s court and I’m waiting.

    Hianal Hernia Surgery

Thank you for sharing. I am having a large hiatal hernia repaired with gastric bypass and your post was helpful. The recovery period and what to expect has been a mystery to me.

WOW! Do they have any idea how you developed a hernia THAT large? Mine likely started when I was of with twins 20 years ago. Lifting, long distance running, etc., etc., and voilà! Hernia! My daughter is a doctor and she told me that merely having the hernia repaired is going to make a huge difference in feeling better. I can’t wait.

Oh my! I didn’t know I had it either till the first sip of barium. The radiologist showed it to me. My only symptom had been shortness of breath. I can’t wait for it to be repaired. The RNY is used interchangeably with gastric bypass here. I was hoping for a gastric sleeve but the hernia changed that. Good luck to you, and thanks for replying so quickly. 🙂

Hi, Meril…I’ll be following you for sure. I am having a hiatal hernia repair and Roux EN Y. I’m probably having it mid June when school is done. All of my pre-procedure testing is complete. Just waiting. I’m excited about the surgery and the changes it will bring. I’m a little apprehensive about the hernia repair because it was completely unexpected. It’s large and half my stomach is in my chest which explains a lot. good luck to you!

Master bath and master bedroom closet are clean. Took more time than I thought but they were the biggest things on my list. Taking the rest of the day off…tackling something else tomorrow.

    April 2022 Surgery Buddies

You are so welcome! ❤️ and, no surgery date. I’m thinking that I wasn’t enough of a squeaky wheel and I fell through the cracks (3 weeks for the CPAP machine to be ordered) BUT, as much as I wish that Monday was actually my surgery date, I’m ok. I know that it would bother me if I wasn’t there 100% for my kids at school who are coming into the home stretch after 2 years of Covid-hell. Dh and I are cleaning as if Monday was my surgery and I’m going to see where we go from here date wise. I can take enormous pleasure and have peace of mind if I know my house is clean! 🤗

    April 2022 Surgery Buddies

Happy Friday!!!!! I hope the april surgeries who went this week OR today are are on the mend and doing well! I am apparently going to get a CPAP as I received a call from the CPAP Home person today and she said that my doctor had just ordered it. She said she will be in contact with me regarding when it can be picked up.🤷‍♀️ I spoke with the Personal Nurse Advocate on Wednesday. She was nice, but didn't have anymore information at this point than I do. 🤷‍♀️ She and I had a good long laugh at the fact that it was quite obvious my surgery would NOT be Monday, 4/11. 🤷‍♀️ She told me she would put in a call to the surgeon's practice and find out what was going on. THIS is what's going on: I'm getting a CPAP machine. 🤷‍♀️ Oh, and I haven't heard back from the PNA yet. 🤷‍♀️ I am now thinking that it might be a good idea for me to look into surgery mid-June when school ends. I know I am having a hernia repair and RNY, and in light of those facts, i'm thinking that more time to recover would likely be smarter than less time. My husband agrees. Lots of shrugging in this post...🤷‍♀️...I did everything I could to have this happen on Monday, but it's just not to be. Time to get the house cleaned to within an inch of its life, and just wait. It's all good. Wishing everyone a restful weekend!

    April 2022 Surgery Buddies

Congratulations! 🙌I'm so happy to hear that you are doing well!🙌 I had originally thought my surgery date would be Monday, 4/11, but clearly THAT is not going to happen. I'm waiting to hear from the surgeon's admin as to where I am in this process. I'm seriously thinking of becoming a mid-june surgery at this point and doing it right after the last day of school. Obviously, I'm not going to have spring break to recover. Oh well. Please keep me posted on your journey. and congrats again!

Our bodies really want carbohydrates and it can take from 3-5 days for those carbohydrate pangs to disappear. You absolutely should expect things to get easier. you can do it!

Hi, Good luck on the 15th. Has your surgeon mentioned anything to you regarding hernia repair recovery time?

    April 2022 Surgery Buddies

☘️Good luck to everyone who is scheduled for this week!☘️ On another note, I have a question. Originally, I was hoping for an April 11 surgery date. My pre-procedure testing/evaluations have been complete for a week. The cardiologist cleared me for surgery. My apologies for repeating all this stuff again. This morning, i get an email from CIGNA that they have assigned me a 'personal nurse advocate.' I have a phone call scheduled with 'my' personal nurse advocate later today. The CIGNA person was very nice, and said that the PNA will be able to answer my questions regarding 'where' my paperwork is in the approval process. My question: is it an encouraging sign that this PNA has been assigned to me OR does it really not mean anything at all? Thank you in advance.
