  3. 3 years has passed since you registered at LapBandTalk! Happy 3rd Anniversary Walk_By_Faith!

  4. I went to Six Flags a week ago to see my favorite band, Gym Class Heroes. I hadn't been there in 10 years and was really nervous about fitting on the rides but it worked out and I had a blast! The whole time I was there I couldn't believe I was riding rollercoasters again!

    Surgery Tomorrow!

When I left the hospital I was able to start full liquids. So my 6 "meals" consisted of ensure or creamy soups with protein powder added to them. I'm on the second week now and I can have blended foods...Eating slower has been trouble for me too, especially trying to stretch out a half a cup of food haha.

    Liquid Diet Torture

My surgery was Friday (5/22/09) and everything went really well. I didn't follow the liquid diet completely but I did try really hard to refrain over eating. I had a full meal maybe twice in the 2 weeks and snacked but I was starving all the time. I tried to drink a few shakes during the day just to get the protein in. I lost 5lbs before surgery. I'm 6 days post-op and havent cheated. Now that the surgery is done, I'm much more motivated to stick to the diet.

    Surgery Tomorrow!

Thanks so much! Everything went great. Recovery hasn't been bad at all. I even felt well enough to going shopping with my best friend yesterday. I am struggling with trying to get in 6 meals (w/ enough protein) and drink enough water through out the day. Yesterday I really started to think about what it will be like to eat solid foods and what happens when food gets stuck. I've been trying to read different stories on here about it. I've read not to drink water but also I've also read sometimes smalls sips might help. and papaya tablets (or something like that) breaks up red meat? Does it just feel like something sitting at the top of your stomach? what helps people get the food down?

    Surgery Tomorrow!

My surgery is scheduled for tomorrow morning at 9:30am. I still kinda can't believe it's actually happening. This time last year I wasn't even considering surgery. Time flies! I'm still a little freaked out about how different life will be after the surgery but I know it will be worth it. wish me luck!

    Liquid Diet Torture

I really just need to rant about this to people who understand. sorry for the long post....I'm having surgery May 22nd and my doctor (kane center, ouside chicago) has me on a 2 week pre-op liquid diet. I've been reading other posts on here and other programs and doctors around the country don't require 2 weeks of liquid diet before. I've heard of people only doing a liquid diet for 24hrs before surgery! So why is there such a difference between doctors? It seems cruel and unnecessary. And the shakes are disgusting, I can't even finish them. I starved the first day and choked down maybe 3 shakes. The 2nd day I couldnt stand to drink any shakes at all and i caved and ate a pretzel. Now its the third day and im so upset and hungry I ate a full breakfast and a bag of cheetos! Now i feel weak and guilty for not even lasting more than a day on this liquid diet. :tt2:

    Approved!!

The Surgeon's office submitted my paperwork to the insurance company (BCBS of TX) Thursday 2/26/09 and BCBS approved it and sent out a letter on 3/2/09. I had read some posts about BCBSTX being really quick with approvals and I'm so happy that was true in my case too! I got the letter in the mail today. Now I'm just waiting to hear from the surgeon's office on what to do next. How long did it take for some of you guys to get banded from when your insurance approved the surgery?

Entering Biggest Loser Contest at Gym be cheating?

I don't think it would be such bad thing to enter the contest at the gym simply because you're doing it for motivation and there isn't a significant prize up for grabs (well losing the weight is priceless!). I have a connection to get a vip pass to the front of line for the Biggest Loser audition in Chicago this weekend, so I would be guaranteed a chance to audition for the casting people. But I just finished my 6 month dr supervised diet and im waiting to submit to insurance for approval. I figured my chances of success are far better with surgery and I don't want to delay things by waiting around to see if I get a chance on a tv show haha.

    Advice :-/

My doctor wanted me to consider the surgery when i was 18, and that was 6 years ago when the surgery wasn't nearly as common as it is today, especially for young people. At that age I was shocked he even suggested it because I was so young. I was totally against that idea for many years. Now that im almost 24 and havent lost the weight on my own i feel it's time i take this step. The surgery center im going to has perfomred the surgery on a lot of people your age and even younger. It's much more common now and you should just look for another doctor who will support you more through this.

Pre-op weight loss & insurance approval

I don't think it was written in my insurance policy to lose 5-10% of the weight during the 6 month diet, but the insurance person from the surgery center said the insurance companies usually want to see that amount of weight loss. I weighed in today and I just made the the 5% weight loss, and my nutritionist informed me that a lot of people have been denied recently for not losing any weight during their 6 month supervised diet. So I'm more confident now that I know I lost atleast 5% and the nutritionist said she thinks im still a very good candidate for the surgery.
  14. Tomorrow is my last weigh in for my 6 month supervised diet. In the beginning of my diet I gained about 10lbs and then lost the weight I put on. So 6 months later I think I'm only a few lbs less than my 6 month diet starting weight. I did however lose 60lbs on my own before I was being medically supervised, and that is reflected in my 5 year medical history. My question is will the insurance company deny my surgery because I didn't lose 10% of my 6 month starting weight? Should I do another month of dieting to try to lose more weight before submitting my paperwork to my insurance? Will they deny me because I gained weight and then lost it during the diet instead of continual weight loss?? I have BCBS of Texas...I'm really nervous about this.
