I also have Tricare Prime North...
HOWEVER.... a MTF started doing the surgery July 1st, so Tricare declined to allow me to seek a private doctor... the MTF is 40 miles away. As of when I called they were scheduling for 16 months out. I had to bite the bullet and self pay.

Thanks ladies! I will check out the military spouses board.
I got the realize band instead of the lap-band brand - same procedure just different tie-wrap!
Long2bfree - have you gotten banded yet?
Cindy - awesome on your weight loss so far! Way to go girl!!! I can't wait for my success story...
BTW - I was banded on the 14th. Pre-surgery 206 - now - 183... first blockage - last night - childbirth is more pleasant that a blockage!

Hi all! I am Sheri... new to this board. I am married to my hero, my soldier, who is deployed to Iraq again!
I got "realized" on the 14th of July, and need some support! I moved to Virginia with my hunny and he up and left me here for the sandbox! So, here I sit, I don't know anyone... no family around.
Enough of my pity party! Hi everyone!

I was banded on the 14th... I can co-miserate! Oh, it sucks! Bandster Hell! I have been craving food! I am not a big meat eater but wow, have I been craving it!
Let me tell you though, I experienced my first blockage on Sunday because I thought I could eat ... and I did! Oh holy cow!!! The only thing I can compare the pain to is child birth. I have a pretty decent tolerance, I have taken NO pain meds since I got home from surgery... I only took tylenol after surgery in the hospital... and the blockage - hurt exponentially worse than the surgery! So, be careful!!!
I feel for ya, but talk to your doctor.
