What the heck have i done

Hi xtightend - Know just what you mean. When guy’s make up their mind it’s let’s do it now. I have had to work on this quit awhile now. How about yourself? My group suggested it would be best if I could loose about 3% of my body weight before Surgery how about you?

    When is your surgery?

Hi - November 19 for me DR Hoehn Shawnee Mission,KS We will make it happen this time.
  3. Hi Lizreeka I am in the middle of all this right now myself. Transfer Addiction is just one of the subjects that will be covered by your Psychologist this his his job. Good Luck
  4. Hi Guys - been awhile since I posted. My Journey to join the club has been a slow one. When I last reported I could just Grumble, shuffle feet, grumble, and wait. Progress has been made to that I have now added Twiddle my thumbs. Still exercising now walking 1.8mi/day, doing wgt’s one hour 3 days/wk. Started the Elliptical a couple of weeks ago now that thing is a killer for me 3 min twice a day is my max. But one day I will own that sucker and I don’t mean buy it. Have lost 10 lbs - What is it about us Guys when we loose weight our Butt is the 1st to go and our Gut is the last can’t keep my damn pants up. Been to the Dietitian received my training and got my Book with all the requirements. Been to the Psychologist have received his approval, with more meetings scheduled he is overhauling my head I like this guy. Got a story that will either make you laugh at or with me. On my 1st visit when he was finished talking. He told me that I would need to fill out a questionnaire (think this might be a Medicare requirement) but for this story don’t care why. He turned me over to an assistant. She took me to a small room with a sign on the door test room 2 it was a very nice little room about 8’ x 8’, carpeted, large leather chair and a desk with a small (3’’ cube box) on the desk the box also had a button. Now she spent time explaining the test, asked do you have any questions? When I said no she reached down pushed that button on the box and left closing the door. Now I need to give you a little more information by the time she left the room it was 11am I had two cups of coffee with Breakfast and one in the office before my appointment, I took all my Medication that morning one of which is Furosemide (water pill) now when she pushed that button on that little box it exploded with a sound that would equal Niagara Falls complete with a roaring white Water river rushing over boulders. Now after 30 minutes trying to finish that test as fast as I could squirming all the time to the point a hole must of been worn in my pants along with the water level raising in my eyeballs to the ¾ full level I just said to hell with the tests and went to “P” After starting my Journey on June 24th I get to see my Surgeon this Wednesday October 15th for the 1st time might get Surgery Date. Wish me luck.

    Has anyone been "preparing"?

Hi Ladies – Would you be willing to help a Male Old Goat like me get ready for this Lap Band Surgery? I do agree we should be taking (get ready for surgery steps) now. I only have two items left to get on the surgery schedule. Last meeting with the Psychologist & Insurance (got so much wrong) not a problem. Surgeons Nurse said I should be a late November Lap Bander. Nurse also told me to start taking the B – Complex with Thiamine NOW it would help get us ready.
  8. Hi Fresca - Been doing some research on the F55 do have a few questions. Right now my workouts consist of 20 to 25 min walking a day, 30 Min with the weights 3 times a week, and swimming 30 Min 5 times a week. 3 Meals a day no snacks and 30 to 40 Total Carbs. Not sure I can push the walking much right now to much weight for the joints. Looks like the F55 is water proof if you don't push buttons? The unit you have uses the chest band? Do you down load the data to your computer? and track your weekly totals? Think I will give the elliptical a try at the fitness center, might be able to burn more calories with less stress on the joints. The F55 probably well be a item for the must have list. The Preliminary Steps start next week with the Dietitian.
  9. Hi Brewa - Sure looks like the Band got you on the path of recovery. 101 lbs to date. Also looks like you got the head part right, still got that part of it to learn from the psychologist. One thing I'm pretty sure of with the input and advice of you guys it will happen for Me. Guys like my new photo starting to play around with the forum? Fenton I read your response to ronnfia I was impressed hope you would help me should I falter. Well guys I am taking your advice kicked it up a notch this week from 1/2 mile to .7 tents mi not much but a start. Now don't forget I'm still not banded, feel like a fully loaded freight train going down the track just watching all those Pretty little perfumed bullet trains speeding by.
  10. Hi BigRick - Man I’ve held off posting you giving you time to heal. Wow only two weeks after Surgery, down 30 lbs, Walking 3 Miles per day, Blood Sugar at or below 100 that’s Greaaaaaaaat. At that rate three Months from now you will be off all Medication back to walking “what is it 9 Miles” over rough terrene and at your Goal. You will have to change your user Name to SkinnyRick. Input from you Guy’s says Walk – Walk – Walk. I did start working on that 3 weeks ago only up to ½ Mile per Day but then a little over a Year ago I was in a Walking Boot for over 5 Months for the strained Tendon. I can go farther but the leg will not, sure my current Weight has a lot to do with it. But I will make it happen. Trying to set a Goal for myself should it be 4 Miles per Day 7 Days a week. Would that be a good doing it Buy the Book?
  11. Hi Jim Thanks so much for sharing where you have been and your progress made to date. Sure hope to keep in touch with all you guy's, that are getting me so excited to get this done. My Dietitian called and was able to move my date up to the 4th week in Aug. On the move Got a question for you Guy's. Exercise By The Book I have noticed from reading this forum that a lot of the most successful LB state "I do it by the Book". What would be the recommended exercise lets say for a 55 years and up Male. I'm not a 25-35 year old Jock any more.
  12. Hi Joe that’s such great news to hear of your success over Diabetes. That is the Carrot LB surgery offers possible reversal of my Diabetes. That put me over the top to have it done Thanks. Still not sure what makes it work? But then who cares if it works.
  13. Progress First step. Got the call to set my appointments with the Psychologist the 2nd and 4th weeks of Sept. that along with my appointment with the Dietitian the 3rd week Sept. I am on my way. Aye Second step wait six weeks wait. Third step – Attend a Weight Loss Support Group Meeting. Forth step – grumble, shuffle feet, grumble, wait. The 1st Seminar that I attended all the Lap Benders telling us their stores recommended that we try and loose weight before the Surgery that it would make it a lot easier on us. So not to just set and wait 6 Weeks think I’ll try and shrink the old liver. One more time the old Will Power Over the Food should be able to remove 15 or 20 lbs before the cut if it even happens this year.
  14. Will take a good look at the New Balance 768. Walking a lot is a little hard for me right now, strained a lower leg tendon real bad a little over a year ago out in the AZ Mountains. But walking is starting to come back. I do swim 5 days a week and do little with the weights.
  15. Genea good to hear for you. Man what a way to spend new years eve recovering from surgery and what a great way to start off the new year. Must be great to be over 1/2 way to goal. sure hope I can also drop some of the Med thats great news with hope. Has it taken long to get up to 4 miles? I am on grandkid patrol this week 8 & 10 today took them to the Fed Res Bank to see where Money is made and Hallmark Cards so they could make some of their own cards. Looks like we must have been some what at the same point when we stared down this road. Yes young is good am working on removing the old goat status myself.

  17. Hi Bigrick, Sure would send you a sign up sheet if I could but then some one needs to pay for my retirement might as well be a LB Buddy. Dropped in on your Nervous Sight Congratulation on getting err done. Sorry to here about the we hope short term problems I don't do pain well. You talked Of High Blood Sugar hope it settles soon. Blood Sugar or my Diabetes sure hope the LB will bring down or eliminate mine not sure at all how the LB will bring it down? Well I got a little bummed out today called to make my appt with the dietitian and was told the next appt time was 6 weeks out crap.
  18. Hi Big Rick, You asking to be put out to pasture with the rest of us Old Goats?
  19. Thanks for the input dwrd73 I have no intension of limiting myself to old goat men only. Where am I today have been told the Psychological Evaluation DR. will call soon to make the appt. and when they do call to make an appt with the Dietitian also to go to a Weight Loss Support Meeting. 20. Looking for Old Goat Buddies just Banded or in the Process. To share are current struggle with the bulge and hopefully make it work for all of us this time. My definition of an Old Goat is a Male of Retirement age or Older just like ME in pursuit of a heather Body that’s able to wear much smaller clothes. Now about me - 70 years old, 6 foot tall since 16 till I got checked for my BMI they tell me I am only 5’ 11-3/4” BMI 42.2 WGT 309 Top WGT 333 Charts say should be under 170 Wow 190 would sure be nice. Live in Kansas City and working with The Bariatric Center of Kansas City and DR Hoehn For me the thought of possible eliminating My Diabetes, High Blood Pressure, sleep Apnea, and Reflux. Or at least reducing the Medication would in itself make the Lap Band worth it and Weight Loss well nothing is required to be said for us. As for the Ladies think you are great have three Daughters and a loving Wife for 44 years would just like to try to make this trip with Old Goats First. But if I have to work with Women younger than my Daughters to get err done than that’s what I will do. I will also post this in the Men’s Room if you would like to Buddy with me.
