    Any 50yo or older?

I had my sleeve in May 2022 at age 62, so I am 8 mos post-op. Recovery was quick and fairly easy for me! Like others, wish I hadn't waited so long! I've stalled over the holidays and even gained a couple of pounds, but I am back on track now. My weight loss has slowed dramatically and my surgeon says I'll probably only lose another 20 lbs, but I'm good with that. I feel FANTASTIC! I've eliminated one of my BP meds and the other has been cut in half and some days I don't take it if my pressure is low. I do at least 30 minutes of aerobic exercise five days per week, alternating stationary bike and rowing machine. I think my hair loss has finally slowed/stopped. My surgeon & internist are very pleased with my progress. I'm sure I could have lost more if I had eaten cleaner the past 8 mos, but I really have just been relying on portion control and eating pretty much what I want, but focusing on healthier options when available and keeping track of my protein intake. Definitely consumed far too many sweets over the holidays. My husband and I are spending a week in a cabin in the woods near Fairbanks, Alaska in a couple of weeks and I'm excited to see how much easier the smaller me will fit in the seat for the long flight!

I ate whatever I wanted, just in small quantities - successfully made it through leftovers without gaining weight. Even had pie

    ESG after VSG

I'm disappointed that I didn't know about this options BEFORE I had my VSG, although I am very pleased with my progress.

I must be slow....what is ESG?
  7. I expect to experience this tonight! I am attending a retirement party for my boss and MANY former employees are attending, some of whom I haven't seen in 8 years!

    Thanksgiving 🦃

We are having our usual large family gathering and will make our traditional meal: Turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, corn pudding, fruit salad, deviled eggs, homemade cranberry sauce and a variety of pies: pumpkin, pecan, lemon chess, buttermilk, mincemeat, cherry, apple... I plan to have at least a bite of all of my Thanksgiving favorites!

    69 yrs old and unsure..

I'm 62 and had sleeve surgery 3.5 mos ago. My BMI was over 40. I am already down 55 lbs, 2-3 sizes smaller and feeling fabulous. I've had very little discomfort with the surgery and eat whatever I want - albeit in much smaller quantities. I consume on average 900-1100 calories per day. Happy to answer any other questions you might have. I have no regrets other than wishing I had had the surgery sooner!
  10. The stalls are the WORST! Congrats on your weight loss though!
  11. Maybe try frozen yogurt instead of ice cream? Or a sugar free brand.
  12. Oh my! That is frustrating! My scale has stood still for 3 days, so I suspect that I am now in a stall as well!
  13. I am 3 mos out and had my final nutritionist visit last week. Because I am healed and tolerating the surgery well, she has cleared me (more or less) for juice, soda, alcohol, coffee, etc. - all in MODERATION. I have had small portions of cake, cheesecake, pie, cobbler and candy and have not experienced dumping syndrome. I HAVE had the foamies when eating something either too bulky or taking one or two bites too many. I generally stay between 900-1100 calories per day. I am 62, 50 lbs down and still losing 1-2 lbs per week. EDIT: By "clear", I mean I made her aware that I had consumed this items without any negative consequences and we discussed that I should have no problems if I exercise moderation.

    Rate of loss post-op

Boy I hope this calculator is wrong! I'm just 3 mos out and down 50 lbs. According to this calculator, I can only expect to lose another 16 lbs?!!!!

At Lunch at first day of Family Vacation!

I am only 3 months out and Haven't stopped enjoying going to restaurants. I usually just share whatever my husband gets (with my input) since I can eat so little - but still very much enjoy the experience. I still get to eat food prepared by someone else! It is just as satisfying as eating at home, except in different surroundings and ambiance. Mind over matter!

Eating carbs (pasta, rice, or bread )

Had my final visit with nutritionist yesterday and she confirmed that including healthy carbs is GOOD long term. Still have to focus on protein first, but the body functions better with some whole grain foods included in your diet.

Eating carbs (pasta, rice, or bread )

I never stopped eating carbs, but they are very limited. My program allows whole grain breads, pasta and crackers. I have also been eating a little brown rice. But, we camp alot with my siblings, cousins and grandchildren and have group meals. I basically eat whatever everyone else eats, but put emphasis on the protein and try to eat anything else sparingly. My stomach size and reduced appetite has successfully kept me from over-eating, I feel. But, for the most part, I try to be make healthier options for day-to-day. For lunch today I will have a flavored tuna pack on 5-6 whole wheat crackers. I won't be able to eat the entire pouch. I'm 62 yoa and I go to the gym 4-5 days per week. I am 11 weeks post-surgery and am down 45 lbs. I feel this is working well for me and I don't feel like I'm dieting. This will be my new normal. I see my surgeon and nutritionist next Monday for the last time and will update if they tell me different!

    Before and After Pics

I am in the 9th week post surgery and down ALMOST 40 lbs. I'm 62 yoa and work out 5 days per week (elliptical and weight machines at Snap Fitness for about 45 min).

    Stop loosing WAY too early

In my case, I started losing again by eating MORE calories. I'm 62, so that could be a factor. I also spend 45 mins at the gym 5 days per week doing elliptical and free weights. I lose about 2 lbs per week as long as I keep my calories under 1200, which allows me to eat pretty much whatever I want. My program allows carbs - as long as they are whole wheat or brown rice or vegetables/fruit. I am at week 9 and am down nearly 40 lbs and 2 dress sizes and have loads of energy. It's so nice to be able to give MYSELF a pedicure! lol.

    My First Binge :(

I also haven't mastered "slow eating". By the time I am able to eat, I'm usually pretty hungry and scarf it down...and then it's over and I'm sad. lol

    Caffeine

My surgeon said I can drink coffee/caffeine...but his nutritionist says no. lol. I choose to follow my surgeon's advice because I WANT my coffee!
  22. I am 6 weeks post-op and am able to eat pretty much anything and everything....including things I really shouldn't eat. I even had fried chicken at a family gathering - a leg and a wing. It was delicious and went down WAY too easy. Fortunately, I have continued to lose weight, although probably slower than many of you. I realize my weight loss would be quicker if I stuck with just lean protein and veggies - which I do MOST of the time - but I'm 62 yrs old and for me, the purpose of the surgery was to have a tool to help me not OVEREAT, as I have done all of my life, but still be able to enjoy my favorite foods in moderation. ALL THINGS in moderation! Fortunately, my nutritionist's plan does not exclude carbs - in fact, whole grain breads and pasta are included and encouraged in the program I am on. I am just so happy that I have been fortunate enough to have had an easy recovery from the surgery and absolutely none of the bad side effects. I continue to drink the protein20 waters to supplement my protein intake in order to allow me to enjoy other foods in my small tummy, and to help me with hydration - the ONE thing I still struggle with is getting my 64 oz in daily.

Eating carbs (pasta, rice, or bread )

I heartily agree!! My whole goal in having this surgery was to have a tool to help me with portion control - NOT to be on a diet the rest of my life! Fortunately, my program does not prohibit carbs - just prefers that I eat the healthier ones - such as brown rice or cauli-rice and whole wheat options. I can TOTALLY live with that!
