Approved for surgery

I’m sure transfer addiction can happen regardless of where and how you get gastric surgery. It’s only a tool that will only work long term if you’re prepared to do your part. I know of several people that have had the surgery and still look for ways around the restrictions. -

Part of the reason I chose to have the surgery out of pocket was because the hoops required by US insurance companies. It can be ridiculous and defeating and it seems solely for purposes of avoiding liability. All my research says this is an incredibly easy operation with minimal complications and the hospitals in Mexico make available their own records regarding complications. Although this surgery has risks, the risks of continued obesity also has risks. I’m in a support group of pre-op and post-op patients with the clinic I’m scheduled with, and there have been very few mentions of complications. And surgeries have only been canceled/postponed due to positive Covid tests. I do recall one person posted that her surgery was postponed because her blood pressure dropped drastically and the surgeons couldn’t bring it back to safe levels for the operation. She went back six months later and had it done successfully. -

Because I’m doing my surgery out of the country, I won’t meet the surgeon until the day before. I researched a lot before I chose a doctor/clinic and all communication has been by phone and e-mail so far. I had to submit medical information before I was approved and all the pre-op testing will happen the day before the scheduled surgery. -

Being close to home is definitely an advantage. I live in Southern California so the trip for me isn’t long. -

I looked at doing self-pay in the States and $18k seems to be the standard price and probably well worth the investment. Have you considered doing it outside the US to save money? I’m going to Mexico for VSG and the price is less than 1/3rd. -

Yum!!! I love shakshuka. And I love that the dish is so full of veggies. I hope I can handle the spice after my surgery. -

I’m scheduled for May 9th. I’m excited and nervous too. I’m reading as much as I can and asking a million questions so I can be prepared for the after.

That’s looks delish. And the best part is my husband would eat that too - just in larger portions. -

I’d think more doctors would be encouraging more patients to explore vegan options since bariatric surgery is intended to help people get healthier. -

Thank you so much. From what I’ve been reading, vegetarians and vegans are not common in the gastric surgery family. I’m glad I’ve found at least one. -

That’s such good news and I’m relieved that I won’t need to resort to eating meat. -

I’m glad I found this thread. I’ve been a mostly vegetarian eater for the past few years too and all the articles I’ve read online say it’s very difficult to get the necessary protein without eating meat, which I find hard to believe. Have you had any assistance of a nutritionist with your bariatric program or have you been figuring it out yourself? I have my appointment for my sleeve in May so I’m trying to get prepared. -

Hi. I’m scheduled for the sleeve in TJ on 05/09. I’m a bit anxious about the possibility of complications but I’ve been telling myself for 25 years that I could do it alone. I intentionally scheduled my date a few months out so I can get mentally prepared for the required lifestyle changes and to read as much as I can about the process.
