Does it get easier?
joanie pony replied to Courtney*'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 5 months out from surgery. I had a rough time mentally that first month! Once I was past that, everything about this has been so much easier. When times are tough, think about why you had the surgery and remember that this stage is only temporary. -

Hello July buddies! I'm 5 mos out from surgery. I hope to post a couple of pics here soon. My highest weight was 290 lbs about 2 years ago; I'm now at 175 lbs. I am still losing a pound every few days. I'm learning my triggers and finding new hobbies - which includes cooking! My goal is to be 150 lbs but i'll see what my body tells me to do. My husband is scheduled for bypass next month. Very excited for him! I'm trying to remember all my tips & tricks to help him out. He says my progress has been a great motivator for him. He's such a sweetheart I hope you all are doing well & are healthy. Merry Christmas!

It was so frustrating at first!!! My husband is a great encourager though, and he pulled me through it all. I can tell I'm losing inches just from how my clothes fit/don't fit. I wish I would have measured a few areas & kept up with that. I think I would have seen my progress in a tape measure when I didn't see it on the scale. Keep up the great work!

Hello everyone! I am 3 months and 1 week post-op from my gastric bypass. My scales are reading 198-201 lbs - very exciting!! I have lost 90 lbs from my highest weight (about 50 lbs since surgery). I have a chocolate fairlife protein shake every morning for breakfast; for lunch i eat 2oz of cottage cheese and 2oz of chicken salad; then supper is a little bit of whatever we are having as a family. Occasionally i just have a peanut butter protein shake for supper. I am not hungry much and I get full pretty quickly. I'm off my acid reflux medicine. I'm making many trips to the thrift shops for clothes. I can get down on the floor (and back up) to play with my grandson! I walk my dog and go up/down the stairs at work & at home. My energy level is terrific! I can go out and do errands, then come home and still do other things (no constant napping). Life is good!! I had a stall just a week after my surgery. I followed all the rules exactly, but didn't lose a pound for 3 weeks. Since then i've been losing a pound every couple of days or so. Exercise: I wear a fitbit and have a goal of 6000 steps a day. I am usually meeting that! I've had to work up to it gradually. I may start going to the gym once a week for a little weight training - but nothing strenuous. Also, might do zumba once a week at my church (very low key). I am so thankful for the surgery. Also thankful for this forum where everyone is encouraging and helpful. Hope everyone is doing well!!

New Here, Think I was Born Obese (my poor mom!)
joanie pony replied to SymphonyOfDreams's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Congratulations on starting this journey!! My mom was from the dayton area - miamisburg (go Vikings!) I am 53 yrs old, and had gastric bypass July 18. I'm doing well. My husband is hopeful for his surgery in December of this year. I think once you decide on having weight loss surgery, your mindset changes. It was so much easier to follow the plan laid out for me once my "eye was on the prize." Good luck to you! -
hello there! I am 6 weeks out, and have lost about 18 lbs. I lost 7 lbs the first week, then nothing for 3 weeks. I just continued on the plan, although felt very frustrated. And now i'm losing about a pound every day or two. I'm sure you'll get there too!! Keep on the good path!

Rate of loss post-op
joanie pony replied to Jesse Liberty's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
this is all so very interesting! i appreciate all the comments on this thread. I am one month post-op from bypass. I lost about 7 lbs my first week, and nothing since. However my clothes are fitting much better. I had lost 40 lbs prior to surgery, plus 15 lbs on my pre-op diet. So these explanations really are making sense to me now. Thank you! -
I'm scheduled for july 18. My husband was too, but then insurance denied him at the last minute. They said his alcohol intake in 2021 was too much (his last drink was in january 2022). Hopefully he can get scheduled again in a few months. Best of luck to you!!

i have been trying some of the pre-op diet items i've already purchased. You may not want to do a proper liquid diet right now, but you could sample things ahead of time. I've also made a couple of the soft foods from the post-op diet to see how i like it. All of this helps me feel more prepared. Good luck!

Metabolic syndrome
joanie pony replied to imaginegirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had high cholesterol as a young person, walking 2 miles a day, weighing only 150 lbs, and eating very healthy. I have since almost doubled my weight, and will have gastric bypass surgery on july 18th. My doctor said that i may always have high cholesterol (and be on meds for it) even after i lose weight. But i'm hopeful to come off my blood pressure meds. -
Why why why did I do this? Slow suicide.

I was taken off one of my psychiatric meds by my family doctor - she felt i didn't need it. I went into a downward spiral for 6 weeks - it was awful, awful, awful. When i finally told my psychiatrist, she immediately admitted me into their hospital and put me back on my original meds. I was so much better within 36 hours. She said that my family dr should never have taken me off that particular med. I was in a serotonin withdrawal. So, i hope you are able to get the meds figured out. I think much of what you are feeling is due to your lack of medication. Good luck & sending lots of love to you -
i am scheduled for july 18th. Very excited! good luck to everyone!

yes!! This! This is exactly what i hope to achieve after surgery. Thank you for these amazing words!
