Lap-Band and PCOS
aggieshelly replied to AlienBandit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I am 26 years old and was diagnosed with PCOS 6 years ago and was banded July of 2008. I have lost 70 pounds and I am still going I started at 260 or so and now at 190. I take my pills on a regular basis metformin, spirolnoldactone, and birth control. Honestly I am afraid to go off as I hate the symptoms it. My endo says that once I reach my goal weight of 135, then we will talk about going off meds to see what happens. I will say this much my dosages have all got lower and my sugar has truly regulated itself as I use to have to check it up to 7 times a day and now I check it 3 times a day. I will say this much. PCOS runs my life and now it truly doesn't. Losing weight helps with self esteem greatly as most of you know weight is a big problem with PCOS. Previously, if you asked my friends and co-workers about me they would say PCOS. As I am extremely open with the people around me as I have my down moments which are now so much less, as I now blend in with the world instead of being the outcast from the PCOS symptoms. My lap band surgery truly saved my life!!!!!!! Now on for the last 60 pounds and my first marathon in January. Just remember if you set your mind to something you can do it!!!Good luck. -
I feel your pain. My Endo. doctor told me to stay as far away from sugars as possible because as with PCOS comes insulin resistant. I have been banded now for 4 days and for the first time in 5 years I have lost weight and that is so far since my 1 week before diet I have lost alost 20 pounds. It can be done. Just remember we have slow metabolisms, so less is always more.

aggieshelly replied to secondseconds's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on July 30th, and I have lost 16 pounds so far including my preop diet. I was given strict instructions on clear liquids only for the first week to ensure my system stells into its new sytle with the band in its place. I am drinking about 40 oz of liquid a day. But I will say one thing I went back to work this morning and fell great. I am a little tired but I fell the more I move the quicker I will recover. Good Luck -

Hi, I am Michelle and I am 25 years old and I am being banded in 48 hours. This is quite scary but I am long and ready. I have thought about attending a local support group but from what I hear I will be the baby of the bunch. If you are interested in being my buddy shoot me a line and we can exchange email info.
