  1. I don’t regret the surgery but the communication breakdown def creeped me out
  2. You had proper communication. I didn’t lol. I told them prior to surgery that no one has talked to me about the procedure. I just had the informed consent description in writing. I asked that someone come talk to me prior to surgery and was told it would happen but no one did
  3. It’s a bmi of 30+ in the U.S. including down the road from me. It was just cheaper over there. The 35+ with comorbidities or 40 w/o is standard insurance company guidelines for payment of surgery but it’s 30 for qualification to have it at most places in the U.S.
  4. It wasn’t an error. He told me “that’s what we do here” and said they removed it the same as a sleeve would in order to remove the ghrelin hormones.
  5. I was self pay. Qualifications are bmi of 30+ at most places for self pay. I was at 31 when signed up but lost a few lbs from stress. Bypass was recommended to me bc it’s supposed to cure my long-standing GERD.
  6. Hi Chiru, I also had a combination of the sleeve and bypass on April 26th as well! I’m not exactly sure the name for it other than it’s a form of gastric bypass. I had mine done in Mexico so these kinds of procedures are apparently more common abroad then in the U.S
  7. I read that as well. I would think it he was going to do a Spin off of the DS then I would’ve known bc they do the DS there and it’s a higher price tag due to the extra time involved. It’s also meant for larger patients and I had a bmi of 30 on the day of surgery… I really think it’s just their standard policy to remove the stomach for ghrelin reduction. I just wish was told ahead of time.
  8. Standard practice to do a gastrectomy with GB I mean…
  9. He said “that’s what they do” so I’m guessing it’s standard practice there. He was actually a sweet guy.
  10. I looked up my informed consent paperwork and it said there are several variations of the gastric bypass and it’s the surgeon’s discretion to choose which one based on multiple factors. 🤔
  11. I actually emailed the coordinator this morning asking to get more info and inquiring on if it could be a SADI (another name for SASI) as this seemed like the closest option based on a google search. Probably won’t hear back til Monday though
  12. It wasn’t rerouted at the duodenum, that’s why it’s not a DS. It could technically just be rerouted at the stomach
  13. I asked him if he did the duodenal switch when he told me that and he said no. I think the anastomoses are different. It was hard to understand as he has a foreign accent.
  14. It’s supposed to, it’s just how the removal part will affect it is my concern. 🙏
  15. As long as my reflux doesn’t get worse I’ll consider it a benefit but I was very alarmed as well that found this out the day after surgery.
  16. I guess when he said it was reversible he was referring to the bypass part of the procedure?
  17. I also self-paid so there’s no insurance co telling them what they can or can’t do.
  18. Even my coordinator thought I was just mistaken but confirmed it with my surgeon after talking with her. I appreciate it but can’t find any info on it anywhere and want to make sure it won’t worsen my acid reflux as that’s why I chose GB.

    April 2022 Surgery Buddies

I had mine yesterday as well. I agree with the others about the gas pains! At first I felt like was dying, but the pain is slowly subsiding.

    April 2022 Surgery Buddies

Hi! I’m April 26th as well! Today is the first day of my 2-day liquid diet and I’m as nervous about that as the actual surgery!
