    Telling friends and family

Don’t let them get to you. Tell them you’ve researched it and you’re not concerned. Complications from obesity is the concerning part.

    Final %EWL

According to the ideal weight calculator posted, I’m at 107% EWL. I wasn’t very big to begin with though, so I’m not surprised I was able to lose all of it.

    Hitting goal

    Congrats! You did amazing! 🎉💗😄
  4. Hey guys! This isn’t as much a success story as it is a progress story but I just had to share! I had surgery in late April of this year and got weighed at my doctor’s office today and I officially crossed under the 25 bmi border! I’ve still got a ways to go but I have more energy and feel like I have my life back! Now I can keep up with my son’s sports activities! I’ve had a couple of bumps along the way (who doesn’t?) but with dedication and prayer have moved past them. Here’s my progress pic! Cheers! Queso

What do you do instead of eating?!

I’m getting a gym membership. Eating out was always my crux so now I can get out of the house, do a gym class, save $$ on food, and still not be bored.

    Low heart rate

It’s a good thing! It means your heart doesn’t have to work as hard to pump blood. It’s normal with eating normal amounts and especially with an active lifestyle. Mine has gone down a lot too. When I was active years ago, mine would get down to the high 30s in my sleep. It’s bragging rights!
  7. This. A boutique clothing shop owner called me tiny this weekend. I fit the small. Our brains haven’t caught up to our bodies!
  8. I had a ring stuck on my finger for over a year that I couldn’t get off no more how hard I tried. I had an MRI a few months after surgery and the nurse told me to take my ring off and I told her that I couldn’t. I tried anyway and it came right off. My fingers shrunk!!! 🤣😅😂

    gastric bypass for reflux

Hey! I had the SASI (mini GB plus partial gastrectomy) also for my GERD. I’ve been following up with my primary and GI as my surgeon’s in another country anyway. My reflux got worse for the first month and now 2 months out I’ve been able to stop my reflux medicine! Such a blessing!!

    April 2022 Surgery Buddies

Do you take anything for your PCOS? The reason many health care professionals say women with PCOS lose weight slower is because the condition is associated with insulin resistance. Metformin helps, as does Spironolactone for the PCOS-associated skin issues. Lower carbs and more protein helps with the insulin swings. If you’re eating the right amount of calories then it won’t affect your weight loss rate, but your hunger can increase from the low blood sugar that happens after eating in patients with insulin resistance. I’m presuming you’re on medicine for Hashimoto’s… Your Dr. is right that there’s nothing to worry about though. Cheers! Source: I work in healthcare and have PCOS as well.

    April 2022 Surgery Buddies

I had surgery 8 weeks ago. Weight loss will vary depending on how much you weighed to start with. I’ve lost 31-33 lbs since surgery day and 39 lbs including pre-op, however I was a lot smaller to start with so % wise I’m right where I need to be. Your body will keep losing until you hit your BMR plus activity calories to maintain your weight. We just have to remember we have the rest of our lives and to enjoy this awesome ride! Congrats on your weight loss so far. I know there’s more to come! 🥳 Queso

Download the app and then on the front page click on “patient information”. It’ll pop right up, then click “update”. You reminded me that I needed to update mine, lol

    May Surgery Buddies

I didn’t go #2 for 10 days after my surgery. I actually gained 4 lbs the week after surgery between it fluids and constipation…then dropped it all plus 10lbs the next week. It will come off!!

    May 2022 surgery?

Warm liquids such as broth helped me more than anything.

    May 2022 surgery?

Just so you know, Dilaudid isn’t just for hospital use. It comes in pill form for at home use but most places don’t prescribe it since it’s strong and can make people loopy. I’ve had patients come into the hospital on daily doses at home (I’m an RN.) Many places will send you home with Norco or something similar instead.

    Gastric Bypass in Tijuana?

No but I researched it myself. It’s from the leftover stomach backing up into the pouch. My leftover stomach was removed so I have a decreased risk (as was yours with the sleeve). If you have concerns I’d say just go with the RNY. I wouldn’t over analyze it bc at the end of the day, YOU control your weight loss and side effects more than which procedure you choose. You can bypass acid/bile reflux by not eating foods that cause it and you can control how much weight you lose by your determination to follow the rules of the surgery. My own father had RNY bypass and gained almost all of it back. Ultimately your determination to get healthy and stick with the program will matter more than which procedure you choose. 😊
  22. Hi! So I had gastric bypass on 4/26 and found out after surgery that my surgeon removed part of my stomach like they do with the VSG. He said it was to remove the ghrelin hormone. Has anyone else had this done? He said it wasn’t a duodenal switch but gastric bypass.
