Hi, I just joined this site. I am looking to hear from someone who has been banded for more than 8 to 10 years. I really need to hear about someone in that position because I am just about ready to cancel my surgery and forget all about it. I am scared. I have only been able to find people who were just banded recently. I want to make sure that I know that people are actually able to live with the band for over 10 years and still feel great. I know that Australia has been doing this for longer than US. Can someone please put me in touch with someone who has been banded a long time? Thank you! Diana

I have been looking around 4 different support groups in preparation for my upcoming surgery on 3/23. I am amazed at how many people have problems! It seems that everyone ends up "getting another band" or "re-banding" or "fixing their band", etc., etc.,etc. I am having serious doubts because I don't want to have to be in the hospital every other year fixing the band. I want to do it once, and that's it. Does anyone know of anyone who just had it put on and went on with a normal life, without having to rent a room at the hospital? I am getting real cold feet. Please, if anyone knows anything regarding this issue, let me know. Thanks, Diana

I am supposed to get the lap-band on March 23, 2006. I want to hear from someone who has had the band for a long time. I just want some evidence that this thing won't kill you in the long run. I am afraid to make things worst for myself. Anyway, if anyone knows of anyone that has had the band for a long time, please contact me. Thanks, Diana

I am supposed to get the band on March 23, 2006. I am very scared. I am not unhealthy, and I have only about 80 pounds to lose. I lost 120 pound about 14 years ago. I met my husband when I looked my best. I did it the right way, lifting weights, running every day, and eating perfectly, low carbs, low fat, and high protein. I really looked great, for the first time in my life. I was 33 or so when I got done losing the weight. I met my husband and we got married. He has seen me go thru hell with this weight issue. I kept my weight off for about 5-6 years. Slowly I started to gain it back. Last year, suddenly, I gained 30 pounds. I am miserable. We don't do anything anymore. My husband loves me to death and he will not just leave me, even though he could have any woman that he wants (he is a hunk!). But he will eventually lose his patience. I am not a hell of a lot of fun right now. He cannot wait for me to do the surgery. He wants things to be the way they were when he met me 10 years ago, and I don't blame him because I want the same thing. Anyway, in a way, I am doing it for him, but I am not really sure yet about the whole thing. I am very scared. It seems so final. Anyway, we'll see. March 23rd is 12 days away! I will be getting rolled into the surgery room and I will still be wondering if I should do it. By the way, does anyone know anyone who has had the band for over 7 years or so? Let me know if you do. Take care, Diana

Surgery scheduled for 2/23/06 - HELP!!!!
Diana Moragon replied to Diana Moragon's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thank you Jenny, it does help. I still do not know what I will do. Let me be completely honest. I have been reading stories from everyone here and in the US, etc. There is one thing that everyone seems to have in common: they have NEVER been able to lose the weight and keep it off. I am about 80 pounds overweight. I have always been fat, my first diet being when I was 8. In 1992, I changed all my eating habits and began to lift weights and run. I started eating perfectly. I lost 120 points and kept them all off for about 3 years, and I kept at least 80 pounds off for about 6 years. I started gaining a lot of it back just recently, and last year I gained 30 pounds all of a sudden, perhaps because I am entering menopause, or who the heck knows why. Of course, it has a lot not eating perfectly anymore. Anyway, I keep thinking that I can do it again! I keep thinking that I don't need the band. I don't know if I am rushing this too much. Anyway, that is my problem, plus the fact that I don't have any evidence of this procedure being completely safe in the long run. So, that is my story. I do thank you for your reply and, to tell you the truth, I will probably get it done as scheduled, which is on March 23 (I said before it was 2/23 but that was a mistake). Thanks again, Diana -
