I’m so torn right now. I meet with my surgeon next week to discuss things but thought I’d. one here first… should I go with the sleeve or the bypass?? I was set on sleeve but now I’m having second thoughts… I feel like my eating habits/cravings/pcos will just find a way around sleeve and bypass is going to make that more difficult. BUT bypass is more expensive, and I’m self pay. What would you guys suggest!? SN- I have NO issues with gerd or reflux.

I’m freaking out!! I progressed to my phase 2 diet on Tuesday…. And I thought I knew exactly what I was doing, but I just checked my paperwork and I ate things I wasn’t supposed to introduce yet!!! I ate tuna salad, & mahi-mahi… both were chopped very small and I chewed really well but I’m still worried I did something wrong. **Neither of these things made me feel bad at all.** Should I call my surgeons office tomorrow? Or just continue and not eat it again?

I have been approved for “mushy” food, which several plans allow for tuna salad and soft fish, but my plan does not. I didn’t realize until after I ate it that it’s not on my plan. I certainly didn’t go off plan intentionally, but it won’t happen again!

How painful is gastric sleeve post-op?
RaisnHL replied to LaLaLand's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I’m 2.5 weeks post op, and most days I can’t even tell that I just had surgery. So despite my rough start, there is a light at the end of it all. 😉 Best of luck! -
How painful is gastric sleeve post-op?
RaisnHL replied to LaLaLand's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
So I might be the minority here, but I want to keep it real because I wish I would have been more prepared…. Pain initially after surgery wasn’t bad, largest Incision hurt the worst. However, waking up from anesthesia did not go so well. I woke up incredibly nauseous, and vomited multiple times, As you can imagine it was incredibly uncomfortable. Due to the anesthesia, I slept most of the day following my surgery. Most say that they have intense gas pains post Surgery, however I never felt any gas pains. The biggest struggle for me in the hospital was not being able to go to the bathroom by myself. The anesthesia caused me to not be able to go. I ended up having to stay at the hospital an additional night due to this. This wasn’t some thing that I was prepared for, or some thing I had seen mention from anyone else on these boards. Apparently I just had a difficult recovery from anesthesia. Once I came home, the pain was very minimal. However, the nausea was still difficult to deal with, and made it hard to drink anything. I noticed after a day or two at home my legs were very weak I was having a hard time even going up my stairs. Once I stop taking pain meds, the weakness in my legs was gone. So just a heads up when you’re taking pain meds to watch out for other side effects. Those are just a few things I wish I would’ve known before surgery. -
I’m so thankful to know that I’m not the only one! 😘

I’m not going to lie, I’m slightly jealous of those of you already returning to work/feeling great postop! I’m officially 1 week post op and I feel like I’m never going to be the same 😩 I have a constant feeling of something being “stuck” in my chest/throat and it’s driving me crazy! I’m also struggling to get in the recommended amount of protein each day, shakes are disgusting to me now, and I feel awful after finishing one.. I also am having a reallly difficult time getting in all of my meds, taking Horse Pills with a SIP of water is making the “stuck” feeling even worse. I honestly thought that I was so ready for this and it was all going to be a breeze, but I wasn’t even close to prepared… I don’t regret it, yet, but boy am I close.

Yessss!! I’ve been dreaming about oatmeal! I also dreamed that I ate a spaghetti noodle and woke up feeling like I had a noodle stuck in my throat 😵😂
-
I’m struggling to get in my protein, all the sweet/thick protein shakes make me so nauseous… I’m drinking bone broth now, and it’s going down much easier! It’s only 9g protein which isn’t much, but I figured something Is better than nothing 🤷🏼♀️

Yeah I’ve been straight cathed 3 times, and the doc finally decided a full catheter would be best… so I’m stuck at the hospital for an additional night to hopefully get the bladder going.
-
Don’t want to scare anyone but my recovery has been ROUGH… I had my surgery on 8/9 and surgery went great but the nausea has been awful! I’ve been vomiting constantly! And the anesthesia has messed with my bladder so I haven’t been able to pee on my own. The doctor finally has a catheter put in, and hopefully my bladder will wake up tomorrow.

For those who have started the preop diet… Have you started taking Miralax or something similar? I’m terrified of getting constipated, but I can’t decide if I should start now…
-
I just got my testing results back from my preop testing and now I’m freaking out… some of my levels were “low” and I’m so nervous that my surgery will get canceled or rescheduled 😩 Iron, Vitamin D And AST were all in the “low” range… I also had a chest X-ray which showed mild atelectasis… (from asthma as a child) so I’m freaking out about that too!!!! Does anyone else have any experience with any of this!? My next follow up isn’t until the 21st.

My surgery (sleeve) is scheduled for 8/9, and I’m starting to get a bit stressed about cooking for my family post-op! I have 2 small children at home (7 & 4) plus a picky husband so I’m looking for ideas/insight about cooking for your family. This surgery isn’t just for me, it’s so my whole family can begin making healthy changes! I’m not looking to make a “healthy meal” for me, and sticking junk into my family’s face! I want to BREAK THE CYCLE! Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Bonus points if you can provide website links/Pinterest boards 😉

Has anyone gone through preop testing yet? I had an appointment today for blood work, EKG, & chest X-ray. From what I can tell, everything came back normal. I’ll follow up with surgeon on 7/21 to discuss the test. (Surgery date is 8/9 )

Just got my date! August 9th!!! I’m very anxious…
-
I’m curious… how/when did you guys get your surgery dates? I’ve been really hoping to have surgery in June because school will be out, but I’m not sure what to expect. I’m self pay, in Virginia, and my doctors office wants me to complete 3 diet visits (my last is in May) What should I expect next? I was hoping then I would move straight into the pre op diet phase and get a surgery date.
-
Has anyone else gone the self pay route?? I’m looking into it and was just curious what was included in your “package price” .
-
I’m in the beginning stages of surgery prep. but I’m a planner so I’ve been thinking… Does anyone have suggestions for post sleeve surgery necessities? Portion cups? Portion control plates? Best cup for sipping post surgery? Etc.

Thanks everyone for your feedback! This is super helpful! Anyone have suggestions for food tracking apps? I currently use MyFitnessPal but I use the free version and I’d love to be able to print my diary to share with my nutritionist

Approved for surgery

Just curious, as a self pay patient also, how long have you been going to the surgeon? How many/what testing did you have to complete? -
Thanks for the help. I will be self pay in Virginia. The clinic I’m working with seems to offer a lot for the price, most importantly it includes life long support with their dietitian team which is HUGE for me.

Hello! Newbie here! I have my consultation this afternoon, but I wanted to reach out about recovery time. How long do most doctors say you need to take off work?
