The reason for waiting is to allow your body of absorb the nutrients from the foods you ate. You want the nutrients from broth too, I would wait if it was me. Either way it wouldn't hurt to wait to be "safe". Of course, you could always ask your team and do what they say. The know best.

Forever or are you still freshly recovering? I was told not to worry about it and then was cleared to take capsules at my 2 week follow up (assuming I handled them well, which i did.) Address it with your team, they can try to work with you. I tried so many different chewables, they are all disgusting.

They are all disgusting. I was cleared to take capsules and haven't had any issues with them.

Diaphragm Discomfort 7 Weeks Post Op
kcuster83 replied to Jeanniebug's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hope they figure it out and get you feeling better soon! -
It happens, don't stress. You couldn't eat enough to gain that weight in fat so very likely water weight. Take 1 cup of lukewarm water and 1/8 of a fresh lemon. Squeeze the juice in the water and drink it. It is a natural diuretic and works amazingly! PS: I can gain and loose 10 lbs in water. I have seen it. Especially when I was bigger, now i don't see that much fluctuation but still fluctuate none the less.

No fun! Feel better soon. -
The gas will pass in a few days, basically you just have to suffer through it. Sorry, I know it sucks! I wasn't told I had to wear a binder, but was given one int he hospital. I wore it once and it made me more uncomfortable than comfortable so I took it off and kind of kept my hand/forearm against my belly to stop the giggle (haha) when I walked. You could just ask your team if you could take it off, or just take it off and see how you feel. I slept in a recliner for the first few days because laying flat wasn't comfortable. After that, sleeping on my side was a bit uncomfortable after about a week (i think) I was back to normal and could sleep however I wanted.

3rd day post op/first day home:: Gas Pains
kcuster83 replied to smc124's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine was pretty much ok after about 4/5 days. I was told gasEX won't help. I was told this by my team and the nurses in the hospital. Gasex is for gas trapped in your bowels, gas from surgery is trapped in your body cavity (usually the chest) My gas pain was horrid the first 2 days I couldn't even deal with it. I asked for pain meds just so they would knock me out and I wouldn't have to deal with it. lol (PS: I was given a double dose of gas because my surgery was 3 in 1 and took way longer than the average bypass) -

You're in maintenance, try anything you want just monitor yourself. If it works and you like it, great. If not, try something else. -

Last night dinner: Left over Hibachi veggies and I added grilled chicken! YUMMM 226 Cals. 28g protein for all of it. I didn't bother adjusting the serving because the little bit I left wasn't really changing the calories enough to matter. -
I am just over 8 months post op.

25 lbs in two months is GREAT! Don't compare yourself to everyone else. Everyone is different, different start weight, different metabolism, different diet plans, just different. You are doing great!

WOOHOO! Congratulations! You will be there before you know it. There is nothing you can do for hair loss but be patient and it will grow back. It is natural and can be accelerated by multiple things. Some people lose hair just from anesthesia, iron deficiency, etc. It is common in WLS because of the lack of calories, your body "dumps" the easiest thing first when fighting. Kind of like why your toes and fingers get frost bite first. There are a ton of supplements but they don't stop hair loss, they just help regrowth. Don't stress it, just keep up on your protein, fluids, vitamins etc. and you will be just fine. Wishing you the best!

Want to get weight loss surgery but am not getting approved
kcuster83 replied to shonna1989's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sorry you are struggling. We all know how frustrating that can be when it seems you are doing everything right. With your height and weight, you have a BMI of about 32 which will not meet the insurance requirements anyway. Probably why they won't bother referring you. You need to have a BMI of 35 or higher and at least weight related health issues. (High BP, diabetes, etc) or have a BMI of 40 or higher without the related health issues. The only way you will be able to have any type of WLS is to pay out of pocket if you can even find someone to do it with your current BMI. I am sure, there are surgeons out there that would do anything for the money, but I am not sure you really want "that kind" of surgeon being trusted with your life. With that said, have you discussed medical weight loss with your doctor? Prescription meds to help with weight loss? If not, you could try that. I feel for you and wish you the best! -

Wow, that is fantastic!! Job well done! -
Hi, I also had GB and HH repair..along with esophagus repairs due to years of GERD. As mentioned above, at the hospital I was given the 1 oz. medicine cups and filled them up, taking tiny sips. Each cup was about 3 sips and I did this all day long keeping a tally of how many I drank. Each day I could drink a little more of a sip and soon 1 cup became 1 sip. I also made sure EVERY day that I beat the day befores numbers if even only by 1 oz. Broth, shakes, all liquid counted towards my liquid goal and if it had protein even better. I treated it like my own personal competition. By my 2 week follow up I was hitting the low end of my fluid goals. It got a little harder when I started on pureed foods, because my meals weren't liquid anymore. But I created quite a routine and after a few days I was back to hitting the liquid AND protein goal. I would wake up, drink 8oz of high protein milk (Fairlife-12 g protein) which also counted as 8 oz of fluid. Drink 16/20 oz water Drink a 12 oz shake (30 g protein) and 12 oz fluid Drink about 16 oz water Eat: usually egg salad or chicken salad, or ground turkey with taco seasoning all pureed, usually about 5-8g protein because I could eat so little. Drink a clear protein drink, I drank gatorade zero with protein (10 g protein) and 16 oz fluid Drink water until bed. This was and really still is my daily routine now but I can drink like normal and fast so I get about 100 oz of WATER a day and no longer count my shakes as fluid. It was slightly modified when I went back to work but basically wake up and drink a shake, then 3-4 bottle of water before lunch, lunch and 1-2 bottle of water before dinner and after dinner water (or sometimes a suagr free something like lemonade) up until bed. I still drink a shake for breakfast because I just cant eat enough to get in enough protein unless I literally eat all day and then I feel full and bloated all day. You just have to find a schedule that works for you, but either way it takes time to ease back into it. Just don't get dehydrated. Focus on fluids first and then work on protein, at lease that is what my team instructed. Good luck, we are all rooting for you!

Anything, small gifts. Gift cards. A t shirt, socks, hair ties. I usually try to find something interesting or unusual , like a small desk calendar with daily useless facts or something like that. Snacks other than candy, like protein stuff. (beef jerky, protein puffs, shake sample packets) Possibilities are endless, tell him to get creative and think outside of the box. PS: For 19 years I have been with my spouse and I ALWAYS got a big bag of starburst. Last year I asked for sugar free treats instead of them to try out before my surgery. I hated 99% of them, I would rather go without. This year, I said I wanted starburst again! lol But, a small sleeve like you get at the gas station. I can eat 1 or 2 and be good for days or weeks without another one, so I would rather just enjoy them once in a while then not at all or to bother with the sugar free stuff. (I do good with sugars so I don't mind having a treat every once in a while) -
This is fantastic!!! GOOD FOR YOU!!!!

Hello and welcome you will find lots of information here. There are so many variations in plans between team to team you will get a lot of contradicting answers to questions you may ask. The best thing you can do is stick to the regulations your team has put in place. You trusted them with your life, trust them with your process! Best of luck to you and your journey!!!

3 months post op Gastric sleeve
kcuster83 replied to skinny44's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If only there were tablets life would be easier for a lot of people. However, there isn't. There is "protein shots" which I believe they sell on this site. I have never had them so I don't know anything about them. There is also "clear protein" such as gatorade zero with protein, or protein 2.0, premier clear. They are basically all the same but some prefer some over others. I drank the gatorade daily early out as I worked towards my protein and fluid goals. While not eating is ok, it's certainly NOT ok at the same time. Overweight people can become malnutritioned just as someone with an eating disorder on the other side of the spectrum. (bulimia, anorexia). While eating isn't the most important factor, being sure you are getting your nutrition is. Getting your protein and nutrients in is so important. For anyone, not just WLS patients. When you eat your meals, eat super lean high protein foods and maybe some veggies. I usually hit my minimum protein goals by lunch and dinner then becomes a bonus. I do however drink a protein shake for breakfast, so at 30g protein it is a big jump to the days goal. However, lunch is lean meat that is high in protein. White meats, tuna, fish, chicken breast all have 20g protein or more per serving. I am 8 months out now, still wouldn't say I am rally hungry. Now, I seem to have just trained my mind to eat 3 times a day. I am experienced true hunger maybe a handful of times in those 8 months and it usually shows itself at a belly ache. Took me some time to realize it. Anyway, sorry for the long post. But in short, get your nutrition before you end up in a detrimental situation. Call your team for help! Best wishes to you!
