    March 2022 Surgery Buddies

Same here, I see a lot of people just have to drink liquid only. We had a choice of 2 plans. 1. Shakes and calorie free drinks only 2. Shakes and a pre set menu with pre set serving sizing which you could eat up to 6 times a day. Both approx. 800 cals a day. I definitely choose option 2! It's not much but I feel like chewing something would help. I start Monday. Wish me luck!

What is your liquid diet? Do you HAVE to drink everything or drink what you can?

    March 2022 Surgery Buddies

They do mine the morning of at the hospital. I have been sick for 3 days now, just a head cold but I am stressing out. My surgery is the 21st so I really hope I am 100% by then. I don't want it to be cancelled and I don't want to have to go through recovery not already starting at 100%!

I am pre-op but my pureed stage is partially planned with split pea soup and black bean soup. I was going to try egg salad as well since it is basically already pureed. I don't think I can get down with just pureed meat by itself. I might try some chili too, although it depends on how I handle all the flavor.

    March surgery buddies

YAY! Mine is the 21st too! I am supposed to start my pre-op diet on the 11th. I too think I am going to start early for 2 reasons. First, the 11th is a Friday, I think it will be harder to get thru the first few days over the weekend. I always think it is harder to stick with my routine on the weekends as far as healthy eating. Being busy and occupied at work helps a lot. Secondly, to loose more weight. I have been on a steady decline since I started all of the pre-op requirements 6 months ago. Once I did my final weigh in, I had some "goodbye" meals. Didn't go over my calories but I didn't eat good (and my body knows). Well, I also gained 4 lbs so I need to make sure I loose that PLUS some. My surgeon requires that you are BELOW your final weigh in the day of surgery. Doesn't matter how much but you have to be less than that final weight check weight. Regardless. Good luck to us. We got this!!!

    Update On Me (Surgery: 5/19/21)

This is a great feed. So informative. Great details. Thank you for all of the information @SummerTimeGirl You have had quite a journey and I would say a rewarding one. Good for you and keep up the good work! I know you have times of being discouraged and frustrated but when you look in from the outside, you are doing an outstanding job!

    Recovery time

You would think, but like you mentioned " work culture in America"... there is none. haha No one wants to work, unemployment through the roof. Even worse, my business/trade is so desperate for people that actually know what they are doing. It is SO hard to find people that can do my job, it is ridiculous but it makes me "worth more" and more irreplaceable and appreciated. I guess there are negatives and positives.

    Recovery time

I could take as much time as needed, my job would just compile into a complete mess the longer I took. 😩 My employer is aware of up to 6 weeks, I am just really hoping to be back in 2-3. High hopes!!

    Recovery time

Goodness, I am REALLY hoping to be released back to work at my 2 week follow up. I would go crazy 6 weeks, work would be so horrible when I returned.

    Recovery time

Mine says 2-6 weeks, depending on recovery and how physically demanding your job is.
  15. According to my team, anything you drink counts as water intake. But, they recommend that half of your intake is actual water or zero calorie flavored water. Although, I was also told no sugary drinks, I imagine a fruit smoothie has tons of sugar. You might dump.

It is water weight, take 8oz of luke warm water, cut a fresh lemon into 8 wedges and squeeze one into the water. It works as a natural diuretic and will help push the water you retained. I retain water like the plague. I have easily gained 10 lbs from morning to night in just water and can wake up 10 lbs lighter the next day. The lemon water works like a pro-move for me and everyone I have ever told about it. Good luck, my pre-op diet starts in a few days and I know I will need all the luck I can get!

    Vitamins

I was told that even for people it is hard to break down and absorb the nutrients in gummy vitamins and even harder for bariatric patients. I don't prefer to take 10 pills a day, so I would use the bariatric ones for that reason alone. Plus if you have to double or triple the dosage, is it really any cheaper? Frankly, who knows what is accurate or not. Every bariatric team has different opinions and requirements. If you trust your team enough to guide you and preform surgery on you than trust your team enough to take the supplements that they recommend. At the end of the day, they blood work will tell you if whatever you choose to take is working or not anyway.

    March 2022 Surgery Buddies

MARCH 21ST HERE!!! Super pumped up and ready.🤩 My pre-op diet starts on the 11th, but that falls on a Friday so I think I am going to start it sooner. I have always felt like sticking with diets, or healthy eating over the weekends is harder so I feel this will be the same. I think starting during the week and getting into a groove before hitting the weekend will be beneficial for me. Good luck to all of us!

    Gastric Bypass

Same thing with my surgeon. I did however know I had GERD and have been on 2 prescriptions for years now and still have issues. I have high hopes that the gastric bypass will "correct" it.
  21. kcuster83

    First time

I wanted to have WLS for weight loss. But I was told that because of my severe GERD that the sleeve was a bad choice. After doing a lot of reading on the net and forums I would have to agree. Most of what I have read reflects that most people who have the sleeve end up with GERD even without having it before surgery. So, with the reading and my surgeons advise, I will be having gastric bypass on 3/21.

    Vitamins

I have been reading so much on this forum and on another one. It amazes me how different things are between surgeons. Vitamin requirements, food transitioning, pre-op requirements. It is all so different from team to team.

    HELLO

Hi everyone! I am Kim and new here, although a long time lurker. I read forums all the time, I want to know the good, the bad and the ugly. All the possibilities. My surgery is scheduled for Marsh 21st and I am so excited. I am not a bit nervous yet but I know once it gets closer I will be freaking out. I am so dedicated to this process, I have done months of research after years of convincing myself that I don't need this. I have lost over 100 lbs multiple times, I have high expectations for myself that this will be the LAST TIME! Thanks for listening!
  24. WOOHOO! I hope I have these results and feel great after my surgery! (March 21st is the big day!) Side note: How do you get your ticker to show up as your signature. I keep getting an error that says "does not meet the format" when I enter the URL.
