  1. I know this is older, but I am scrolling thru old posts and wanted to tell you this hit me in the feels. My eyes got a little "filled up" at work... Congrats to you! I know this feels great.
  2. haha same here. I always drink a lot of water but I guess I don't have any food to absorb it so it is going right through me.
  3. I agree with @MiniGastricBypassDude and @catwoman7 my program is a balanced diet of all food groups once you get through the post-op stages and onto "normal eating". They only stress protein first then veggies and then if you have room you can have carbs/fruits. I believe each program has their own suggestions and I am sure have their reasons. There are tons of way to loose weight but when it comes down to it, it is the calorie deficient that allows you to loose weight.

    March 2022 Surgery Buddies

Congrats! I am glad you are doing well overall. Take it day to day, my team told us there is no way we would hit fluid goals right out of surgery but we should be there within a week. Just keep pushing, that's all you can do. Good luck! PS: I am from MD too (Baltimore) Where are you located. (If you care to share)
  5. I am on the pre-op diet too, day 4. I have not been hungry at all between "meals/shakes". I even reached out to my team to find out if I had to eat/drink everything on the diet. She said as much as possible so I get the proper nutrients. I haven't eaten all my "meals" since I started and today I am literally forcing myself to eat which makes me feel sick. Like @SleeverSk mentioned, I am not knocking it because I have heard of people really struggling through this and cheating. I appreciate that it has been easy so far and hope it continues until surgery on the 21st and for a while after.

I never did anything while I was in the hospital other than be kind and treat them with respect. They bust their asses, your patience is greatly appreciated. Especially now while there is such a shortage. I have sent large trays of food over Holidays and such with nurse friends to feed the staff working through the Holidays.

From what I understand there are 2 main reasons. 1. If you have a large amount of weight to loose, they will start with the sleeve and when you max out the potential weight loose they can do a revision to bypass and you kind of "start over" and loose a lot more weight than if you just had the sleeve. 2. Acid reflux/GERD. Apparently it is VERY common to end up with it from the sleeve surgery and sometimes it becomes unmanageable which in turn can cause serious damage so they so a revision to bypass to stop the GERD. I am only speaking from, what I have read and what my surgeon explained to me. I have SEVERE GERD so the sleeve was not even an option for me. I am on 2 medications already, and eat tums constantly and have damage to my esophagus already. I need it resolved before I end up with major problems.

    March 2022 Surgery Buddies

Hello, I am on the pre-op diet now. My team allows 4 shakes a day plus a very small list of foods and their serving sizes I am allowed to eat. So I am living off of protein shakes, yogurt, sugar free pudding, unsweetened applesauce and fresh veggies. 800-900 calories a day I have not really been hungry but I am tired of eating the same thing all day every day. It has been much easier than I ever expected from other people's stories. Good luck to you! My surgery is the 21st!

Maybe try to take a walk if you are able? Or something else you can do to occupy your mind. Also, think of it as when you are sick and can't eat. You will be able to eat again soon enough.

    Sleeve or Bypass? Confused

I didn't really argue too much, I just asked for information as to why he recommended the bypass. I see a LOT of people talking about GERD on these forums after they had the sleeve so I am comfortable with my choice. I don't really know if he would have done the sleeve if I was adamant or not.

    Sleeve or Bypass? Confused

I have severe GERD as well. I went into my appointment prepared to discuss the sleeve and he was highly against it due to my GERD. Recommended bypass and gave his reasons, i researched and agreed. I have bypass on the 21st. Apparently A LOT of people develop GERD after the sleeve surgery, even when not having it previously. Mine is horrible and there was no way I was chancing making it worse, I am hoping it goes away completely!

I am also day 2, allowed select foods from a list given to me. Honestly it is much easier than I thought so far. I got hungry last night so I just went to bed. lol I was also busy all day yesterday, this evening I have nothing going on so I feel like that is going to make it harder. We shall see! Again, good luck to everyone trying to make it thru.

What do you do when you get sick?

I don't drink it so I didn't know. But ginger does settle the stomach.

    March 2022 Surgery Buddies

I started my pre-op diet today too. I don't have diabetes so I don't need to worry about my sugars going crazy so good luck. I know that can be hectic at times. So far so good with me, but I imagine the morning and early day will be easier and the evenings will be harder. I always tend to be hungrier in the evening time and it is when I consume most of my calories. Good luck to both of us, and anyone else on on the pre-op diet currently!

What do you do when you get sick?

It is actually the ginger in ginger ale that settles your stomach. There are other ways to get ginger, rather than the soda. They have ginger teas, pills, roots in which you look up recipes for and make your own ginger drink.

I thought I was crazy for starting 4 days early! Good luck.. to all of us! My surgeon and NUT just straight up said "It is a brief period in hell but it is doable and gets easier after the first few days"
