  1. I have looked up slider foods for a general idea but it is my understanding they can differ from person to person. How do you know if you are eating a slider food? Do you just never get full? Second part: I DO NOT want to dump, as I am sure none of us do. I track everything I eat and keep it low sugar and fat. How do you find your limits? Just slowing increase and hope for the best? Or do you just do your best and if it happens, reevaluate what you ate and learn from it?

    Slider foods and dumping

Oh man, that does not sound fun.

Ah, yes. You make a valid point. The calories are still the calories. The only issue I would see is being able to get fluids in if you are constantly eating all day. There would be no windows of opportunity. Especially with the 30 minute rule.

    Constant Gout

ahhh that is better than the concentrated cherry juice i suggested, especially for being a bariatric patient.

What to eat in the soft food stage?

I ate a lot of ground turkey taco meat with refried beans.

    Slider foods and dumping

Sounds too risky for me. HAHA I had heard some serious horror stories. So far, I don't have any cravings so I am not too worried about it for now, it is easy to just not eat it. I am sure that will change though, I never really craved sugary things before surgery either. I have always been more of a salty/carb girl. I ate a TINY BITE of pit beef that didn't agree with me at all and I was sick for a solid 12 hrs. It was horrible, I couldn't imagine what dumping is like. My NUT just told me to continue to try new foods and watch sugar and fat. Try one at a time so you know what your body doesn't agree with and then I can try again in a few weeks or months. Sometimes some things take longer than others. So far, the pit beef was the only thing I have had an issue with.

Yes, I can understand that. It is like a secret weapon.

    Slider foods and dumping

That's what I thought as far as the sliders, you just never feel full and can keep eating. So really, do the calories count? haha JP JP! No dumping here either, but it is my understanding it is more common with bypass than with sleeve. I had bypass and I am paranoid about it. I guess that's a good thing though because it keeps me very aware of what I am eating.

Starting my journey, I need a good word

I had bypass and I am kinda fresh at only 7 weeks post op but I will gladly answer any questions that I can.

    Gallbladder removal post vsg

I asked my surgeon to take it, he said he can't unless I had a history of gall stones (which I don't). I just don't want to have another surgery! Hopefully I don't have any issues though. It would have been worth the extra $500 to not have to worry about it, especially not having insurance. I would have made the same choice as your friend.

    Gallbladder removal post vsg

Being that it is so common for gall stones after WLS, I don't know why they don't just take it when they do surgery. I am sure it has to do with an insurance issue.

Yea, I am on it too for about 6 months. I was only explaining there is still a chance people taking preventative medicine could still develop gall stones.

    Constant Gout

Pure cherry juice helps relieve gout, although it is like pure sugar and I am not sure if you can have it now. I was allowed light juice cut with 50% water. Maybe if you water it down it would help but not to the full effect? Wouldn't hurt to ask your surgeon or nutritionist. My FIL. swore by it every time he got gout.

You can have more than 80g protein, but it is actually possible to get TOO much protein. At least for a "normal" person, Since bypass patients don't absorb everything it might be harder, I am not sure about that part. I would probably do protein shakes at work since you don't get breaks. You can't really eat fast enough to sneak a quick meal in. It would just be a bite or 2 at a time and take forever to eat which may classify as "grazing". I am about 7 weeks post op and it takes me about 30 minutes to eat 2oz of meat and a few bites of veggies.

It doesn't completely prevent the gall stones, just minimalizes the risk of them. It still happens, nothing is a 100% guarantee.

    Peppers, Peppers, everywhere Peppers!!!

I used to be the opposite. I loved anything strawberry flavored but didn't like the actual strawberries. I had issues with the seeds. At some point in my life I just love anything strawberry. I actually had my first strawberry since surgery yesterday, yummy.

    How people around us eat

It is quite amazing how things change like that after surgery. There has been many times I look at a plate of someone else's food and think I can't believe I ate that much. Now, barely finishing 2 oz of meat and a few bites of a veggie.
  20. OK- Maybe I am just crazy but I have always hated being able to hear people chew. BUT NOW..after surgery.. I CANNOT STAND IT! Being around some people eat really makes me want to vomit. How they eat, how fast they eat, their giant bites that barely fit into their mouths, their chomping and slurping! It literally turns my stomach. It also gets me so irritated, bad. Like I think about punching them or taking their food and throwing it across the room. I know I have read some people being grossed out by how much people eat, but that doesn't bother me. You do you, although I do think "man, I can't believe I uses to eat that much or more" Is this just me???? Am I nuts??

    It was the iron....

I was on an iron pill before surgery and the surgeon told me to stop using it. It is hard on the guts so that makes sense. Also can cause constipation. He said if I ended up needed iron, I would get it via IV infusion. But, now that you mention it my multi also has iron. I guess I should ask him about that.
  22. ooo Tapas is a great idea!
  23. Hello! I too was like you, lucky to not really have any health problems. I did have borderline high blood pressure. Also, GERD which may or may not be weight related. But, I justified it by knowing my family genes and that my time would be coming. Everyone is my family is obese and they ALL have a list of health problems. I knew if I didn't do something to loose weight and keep it off that my day was coming. I would wake up and have all kinds of issues. I am not about 7 weeks post-op and I have NO REGRETS! There is also risks because because you are healthy the risks get lower. You have to do what is right for you but I am pro surgery!

    How people around us eat

I get asked if everything is ok a lot. Because I put my fork down and take forever to eat. Then on top of it, only eat like 3oz of my plate. I feel like when I say "It's good I am just full" they think... this fat girl isn't full from those 8 bites. lol
  25. Everything revolves around food, that's what we need to change. I am learning and trying. Yesterday I went to dinner with close friends who wanted to do all you can eat crabs. I didn't partake because I can only eat like 2 crabs right now so it is not worth it. But, I ordered my meal. Took my portion out and sat the rest aside. I sat there for almost 3 hours while they ate. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be because there was a lot of good conversation.
